I am a happy, satisfied owner of the Walther PDP compact 4" 15+1 LE Edition, the Walther PDP full-size 5" 18+1, and, my favorite of all: the PDP PRO SD threaded barrel 5.1" 18+1; in addition to the Walther PPQ M2 45 4.25" 12+1.
I can attest to the fact that my Walther handguns are reliable, very accurate, with great ergonomics, and the finest, smoothest trigger pulls, second to none!
Agree with everything. Thanks for watching!
Great review mate,I’ve had my 4.5” model since May 2021 with over 3000 rounds with no issues what so ever,I love this gun, flawless, peace from Canada 🇨🇦 ✌️
They're fantastic guns. Thanks for watching!
Excellent review! I find these 'down the road /' reviews especially valuable as it really tells you what the gun is really all about. Concise, informative, and straight to the point!
A quick critical info dump, that's the idea! Glad you appreciated it. Thanks for watching!
Great review! Best upgrades to the PDP are: change the trigger to the Dynamic trigger, change the plastic guide rod to ZR tactical stainless steel 15LBS, change the Backstrap to LOK grip to balance the weight of the firearm and lastly port the slide and barrel instead of adding a compensator.
I own two Walther pistols, the PPQ M2 and the PPS both 9mm, I absolutely love these pistols.
I have the PDP and a PPK/S so far, and I definitely have to agree! I really want to try a PPQ .45. Thanks for watching!
Yup. I have the PPQ M2 and PPS M2, I also have the Q4 SF which I got for a hell of a deal. And if you don't mind the full price of it, I would say that it is totally worth it. Will be getting a P99 and a 5 inch PDP compact soon.
@Ninrai37 I really want to get one more Walther pistol. The problem is that I just purchased a Benelli M-4, and I have to start saving for the next inevitable purchases of all the stuff that comes along after you buy any weapon.
Your choices are good choices, my friend.
@@afreightdogslife the Benelli is certainly a good and expensive option lol. I have always been more of a handgun guy than anything. That is what I learned on and am very proficient with.
Great information. Looking forward to the Dynamic Performance trigger vid.
+1
Full disclosure, I’m an HK fan boy, but the PDP compact I bought is making me rethink that! Now I’m looking for a full-size PDP because the damn thing is just magical! Awesome pistol
I have the 5” full size 18+1 rds magazines. It’s the best striker fired pistol that I have ever shot. It’s my favorite semi-auto pistol. (That’s not a 22 race gun)
I enjoyed your take on the PDP. Thanks. I’m considering the F series 3.5 model.
They're great guns, regardless of model. Thanks for watching!
Great/informative review. Right to the point. I absolutely love my 4 inch fde pdp. Runs great. Feels great in hand and imo its drop dead sexy
Thanks for watching!
Although I don’t own a PDP, (I’m a hk guy). I think for any edc, home defense, and all around pistol. 1000 rounds without cleaning in between is a must vetting process. I’m at over 12,000 with my vp9, I clean it every 700-800 round count. I’m sure Any PDP will live up to that standard. Good video👍
Lol the pdp is way more reliable then that pos! Buy a real hk. Usp
Glad you agree. Thanks for watching!
Honestly pretty much any polymer gun will be able to go 1k rounds without cleaning even taurus can do that
@boomee78, you are absolutely right, I’m sure all the people that leave comments are all 1000 round tester. We shouldn’t test the “most” all polymer gun. 1000 rounds are a basic test that sig m17 didn’t pass at my range. You are right all polymer gun should easily pass, but somehow there are some that don’t. That’s what you suppose to test, the two percent that doesn’t work not 98 percent that does.
@@Paperairplane009 i generally before carry any gun i also do 800 to 1000 rounds but i do a i itial cleaning to get the crap off the gun that is used to ship the 🔫
Good comprehensive video! The CZcams algorithms randomly had me find your channel today it's your lucky day I love small channels like this. Quality content man. I haven't had a chance to shoot the pdp yet but I have a Q5 match, it's a very reliable firearm, the trigger definitely feels lighter than the rated 5.6 lbs lol that's a very conservative number. I started going all-in on HK now however, idk what changed me lol but I'm still very much a fan of Walther, the ergos are just slightly better to me on my P30 and I like hammer fired I guess personal preference but you cannot go wrong with a Walther, quality German made. I think the added muzzle flip you feel is because it's only 22 ounces, a full size VP9 is 27 ounces that makes a difference with felt recoil. Keep up the awesome videos!
I've only had one Walther before the PDP and I love them both. The grip on the PDP is definitely slimmer/easier for me to grip vs my P30S and HK45. Thanks for the kind words, and thanks for watching!
Wow! I got the PDP compact 5 a couple months ago. Walther gave me the first rmr plate for free. You get a choice of three different ones. I put a Leupold pro point on it.
Accuracy I can make consistent 50 yard shots no problem on a 8 x 12 target. Muzzle flip would be my only con with 2000 rounds Through it, no problem whatsoever. Thanks for the review. You’re one of the best I’ve ever listened to.
I like these guns. I just finally got my first pistol. Ended up going with a Canik Rival, it was hard to beat for $600. I am currently looking for my 2nd pistol for carrying, want a little smaller one and a little cheaper to bang around. Maybe one day I'll get into the next price range lol. I do agree that Walther should come with higher rear sight and not plastic, those are such easy things to get right don't cheap your customers
Canik is rolling out the Mete MC9 which is a micro compact version of the Mete, you might want to look into that. Thanks for watching!
Great video!!!
Thanks for watching!
Bought the PDP 5 inch yesterday. Only put 50 rounds through it but I'm quite pleased with it. It does seem a bit snappy but it does come right back on target for fast follow up shots. Those plastic sights do have to go though.
Glad you like it! Overall it's a great weapon and hasn't put a foot wrong for me. I've got a video where I replaced those plastic sights too, don't forget to check that out 👍🏽
@@realpracticaltactical Ok, Ill check it out. Might need to upgrade my sight pusher too. Got one of the cheap universal ones. Won't make that mistake again.
I absolutely love the PDP, best handgun I've ever fired, personally. Ive got the f-series, the small gripes with the grip are lessened even more so
Just picked up a compact last week, and haven't had a chance to shoot it yet (But I'm excited to do so!) Should be interesting to compare it with my Gen 4 G19 EDC. Ordered a Stealthgear holster, and expect it to take the 19's place as my EDC.
I own a Walther pdp f series and I absolutely love it and I agree with you thoughts it should come with tall steel sight but the trigger guard and the feel is awesome for my hands. I have big hands and fingers that are short and it fits me better than any of my other handguns.
Would love to see the future upgrades, I just bought the PDP compact
I've got some updates on the PDP since this video. If there's enough interest I'd do an update video. Thanks for watching!
@@realpracticaltactical please do! PDP compact owner here and I'd love to see where you go with it!
I just bought the PDP Pro Compact couple days ago. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but there are a few observations I can make without doing so.
1.) Love the trigger - it's the S2000 gearbox of gun trigger.
2.) Handle ergo is excellent.
3.) The slide "rail" in the frame is very small - 2 half inch tabs on each side, really - and has very little contact patch with the rail of the slide. That's the reason behind its floppiness (and lack of solid feel) between the frame and slide. Evidently it does not impact shooting performance as many have attested, but It gives a low-rent feel.
4.) The serration edges are very sharp and quite physically painful to use to rack the slide. Great for gloved hands I guess. A well design slide does not need to be a hand grater to offer good traction. The new Springfield Echelon slide is a perfect example of that.
5.) The plastic sights are pure garbage. Not just the material, but also the fact that both front and rear sights are white circles of about the same size - this often takes me a second to identify which is which and readjust my focus accordingly. Anyone that considers buying any PDP should budget another $100 for a replacement sight (or $300 for red dot)
6.) There are many red dots that their plates do not support, including the currently popular Holosun EPS range. You would need to spend another $80 to get a 3rd party adapter plate for that.
If I could return the PDP (I can't), I think I would just get the Echelon. It just seems everything is more thought out from its robust modular control unit, slide design and bore axis position.
Love the S2000 gearbox analogy 🙌🏽 thanks for watching!
I have the PDP Pro 4.6 and I absolutely love the gun! The Holosun SCS will direct mount on the PDP and will allow for the factory sights to co-witness. I agree with you on the plastic sights but they are functional, they haven’t broken off (yet), and I don’t feel it’s all that big of a deal (higher quality sights would have been nice). The trigger on the PDP Pro MIGHT be the best out of the box trigger on any striker fired pistol in the 9mm space, it’s amazing. Great, fair, review!
I have my pdp for over two years.I have a ppq 45acp tactical and it's almost the same as a 9mm it has a much larger frame than the 9 and 12 rounds of 45acp is pretty good
I also have a p99 witch is still my favorite carry gun walthers innovations will never stop surprising me the p99 is striker fired my first but it was the perfect one to start with
It has Doble action single action since I carry with a round chambered I can use the decocker on the side witch makes it seem alot safer way to carry Doble action trigger is heavy but it's easily doable at about ten pounds you can also move the slide back for a round in chamber check and that is enough to charge the gun. But there is also a small red pin that comes out of the back witch tells you the gun is in battery. The trigger in single action will look like it's still double action but if you aim at your target and pull back slowly the trigger will lock in its single action position
my pdp is the 5" full size version. i run a brass backstrap, aluminum magwell, taylor freelance +3 extended base plates, holosun 507c gr acss, surefire x300 turbo, and jarvis custom bronze titanium nitride threaded barrel. Plan on buying and installing an extended round mag release and DPT whenever inventory is available 😅
They're definitely a great platform for customizing and enhancing performance. Your setup must shoot very very flat! Thanks for watching!
Uhhh. Sounds like a lot of 💰 🤑 💸
Worth it to you? The barrel sounds interesting!
@@SamBrownMusic hell no LOL. Better off buying the pdp fs pro. Comes with the better trigger that’s never in stock and a threaded barrel (walther barrels are great)
@TheAndrewc5120 yeah I got the pdp pro sd compact. It's sick. 4.6" threaded barrel. Great out of the box 😁
Great video I always run 800 thru mine without cleaning straight out of the box
Thanks for watching!
The shelf is like that because they offer H&K style Mag releases or European style. And the striker is pre cocked which makes the trigger so much better.
I do prefer the euro paddle style. And definitely agree about the trigger. Thanks for watching!
Hi, thanks for sharing and the update. From what I understand the extra little bit of recoil/muzzle flip is because it has a step down barrel I believe it's about .1 mm smaller as you go into the barrel. Also I think bored access has nothing to do with a gun being more flippy/recoil I have an Sig P320 and it's the gun. I shoot the best and has the least recoil.
Good info, I didn't know about the step down barrel. Thanks for watching!
Been looking a lot at the PDP Pro which includes a lot of the upgrades you mention for a fraction of the cost of buying, trouble is finding one to buy.
I have yet to see one in the wild, surprisingly enough. I'd like to try the upgraded trigger before plunking down 200 bucks for it. Thanks for watching!
@@realpracticaltactical I have a local shop tracking one down for me. They are going to borrow me a standard PDP to use as a mold for making holsters until they can get me a pro. :)
They have one at my local range. I've had the 4in compact for almost a year and love it but I may sell it and get the pro because I planned from the beginning to get the dynamic trigger but they're forever out of stock. I email Walther every month since I bought it and always get "they will be in stock in a couple weeks."
Great vid
Thanks for watching!
Loved my pdp so much, I bought a 2 one , a Pdp f 👍
Same here! Got the compact then the F when it was available at my gun store. Which one shoots better for you? I think i shoot better with the F
Re the muzzle flip, it's really seems to come down to technique. The Humble Marksman seems to be able to mitigate flip with a tight grip and good support hand position.
Very true. It's very controllable, but I wanted to point out that it was notably more "muzzle flippy" than other guns with a lower bore axis. Thanks for watching!
@@85jdubs wouldn’t more kick with a higher b.a. make a bigger muzzle flip?
I went to your link page, I have the Swampfox. is there an optic plate for the swampfox for the PDP? everyone has a holosun or vortex. Im not buying a new red dot for a rail. I have a swampfox and want to use it. I have other Red dots (no big names) I want to use them so if there is a way to use a regular rail I would. Picatinny rail would be perfect then i could just tighten a red dot on it. Man i hate pistols... so much extra shit....
The Swampfox has the RMR footprint, so you would want to use the RMR plate 👍🏽
What sort of holster do you run with the OLight? I see a lot of holsters made for the PDP with Streamlight, but haven't found one that will fit the OLight.
Currently a Slimfit Holsters OWB rig. I tend to use them a lot since they're one of only a few that offers a lot of the olight models.

@@realpracticaltactical Thank you!!
I love my PDP. I tried a Glock and the trigger was horrible, I switched to the Walther and have never regretted it.
I know a normal pdp should run fine but I rented one at the range I go to and they gave me a box of 115gr sellier&bellot ammo and out of 30 rounds i had 6 failures to feed, idk if it was the ammo or mag but dear lord did it feel amazing to shoot and rack the slide with those serrations
Range rental guns live a hard life, so I wouldn't be surprised if that played a part too. But I'm glad you got a feel for it, I still love shooting this one. Thanks for watching!
Take this sub... great review.
Thanks for watching, and for the sub!
I had springs in mag weaken so it wouldn't lock back slide. Aftermarket springs solved it, but lost one round capacity.
I love mine. Coming from CZ's. I hate the sights though but putting a 507c on it.
Agreed, the factory sights are definitely a weak point. Thanks for watching!
What holster u have with it n how the finished holding up with all them rounds
Currently its in a Slimfit OWB holster, and it's holding up well. It's got some rub marks from going in and out of the holster when I practice, but I don't mind those at all (I like them, actually...lets you know its not a safe queen lol). The finish itself hasn't rubbed off or scratched off or anything like that, which is what I would expect from Walther.
What sights can u use with this pdp
Fix some of recoil with stainless steel recoil spring from ZR
Thanks for watching!
Another issue that people are just now starting to talk about is the roll pin located above the trigger walking out a bit after 100 rounds or so or if you are firing rapidly, this isn't a common issue and your pdp model may be just fine but some out there are off spec and there is not much you can do if you're the unlucky one, it's frustrating because you won't know until you have already purchased the gun and fired it, I was very disappointed when this happened to me, I have since gone back to Glock pistols as they don't have the best trigger, the gen 5 trigger is much better and glock has never failed me, all that really matters is that you can trust it to work every time, had my roll pin not had any issues I would still be running the pdp, tried blue and red loctite also, that did not fix the issue
I was gonna go buy one of these to go with my carry rotation until I started seeing where magazines are hard to find. When you do find them, they're extremely expensive. That's why I'll probably go with a canik.
Get the PDP.. it's literally taken the place of every handgun I own and I have quite a bit. Imo it's the best out of the box gun u can buy
How are the federal HST rounds? Asking for a friend...lol
More muzzle flip than typical range ammo, which is to be expected with a hotter load. I always recommend practicing with some defensive ammo in order to get used to the way it shoots
@@realpracticaltactical yup, practice with what you plan to carry.
Is there any kit that's fit to this gun? Plz make a review if any.
Walther also has limited red dot milled slides on their sight. No plate needed.
I think you meant "site" as in "website" ?
I have this pistol it is awesome
Thanks for watching!
Is the finish on the slide wearing?
Mine is, and it's never been in a holster, or laid on anything more abrasive than a clean table top.
Minor wear on the edgy parts of the slide. Asthetics are important to me. But as you said, the pistol runs flawlessly. I love shooting it.
No wear to speak of on the slide, and "working" guns I don't treat with kid gloves. There's a touch of wear showing on the front edge of the chamber where the slide touches when it locks up, but other than that, nothing. Thanks for watching!
@@realpracticaltactical I think I may let Walther slide on this, but I am considering having the slide DLC coated. Only thing about that is there is a serial number on the slide. If there's another one somewhere else... I had planned on carrying this one but the finish issue stopped me. I've been carrying my 1911 for a year and a half and not a mark on it.
So was the "controversy" surrounding the original sight milling actually real, or was it internet controversy? Was there evidence for a problem, or speculation that was unfounded? I've seen videos of people beating their sights with no problem which is why I ask.
It was false. My optic has held zero 100%
There is one dude (youtuber) who is an engineer made it sound like the optic will fly off after shooting a hundred rounds. To me it sure seems clickbaity... From what I understand, walther responded and even explained how it won't fail, but went above and beyond simply for P.R. it seems and made some changes that wuld "solve the weakness". I haven't heard of anyone's optic plate bolts shearing off, but then again, someone will let me know below 🤣
Sage Dynamics reviewed the PDP and was very rough in it. The optic held up.
Full size or compact? Concealed carry is illegal and so is using a pistol for self defense in my country. So I'll only be using it for the range. Where I'm limited to 5 bullets per magazine
If it's a range gun only, I would suggest the full size with a 4.5 or 5 inch barrel. You'll have more room for a good grip, and the added slide length will give you a better sight radius.
@@realpracticaltactical Thank you very much! 😁
Will be going for full size 5"
You could buy another magazine release and install that on the off side to fill in the pocket.
Its actually the bottom of the "shelf" that the mag release sits in that rubs my hand. Without it there I would have all the clearance I want...I'm thinking of having it removed since I'll never swap the mag release over.
@@realpracticaltactical careful work with a dremel might be in order
Bore axis maybe because I have the F but it’s Glock like bore axis I mean the Sig p320 is like a Hi-Point compared to this?🧠🤯🔫
👍
What's that swamp donkey red dot?
Something else I'm testing. I was skeptical but I've been beating the crap out of it and it's going strong. Definitely not as nice as a 407C especially with the details like turrets etc, but it's def changed my mind about the company and their products.
The iron sights on mine have already broken. Definitely needed replaced
I went with the Ameriglo!
@@hwanjung8230 you like it?
@@Honestreview-om5hxlove them. I put them both on my compact and F. With the orange front sights, its so much easier to place my shots
@@Honestreview-om5hx plus only 68 bucks each on Amazon. I had my brother put them on as he has the tools and better with his hands
I just bought the full size ⁴" , bought the valkyrie mini2, the valkyrie pl3 and the streamlight hlr1hl. Going to buy the compact soon as well.
I would spring for the metal full size Walther PDP with milled direct red dot mounting.
Direct mount is definitely my preference too. It wasn't an option when I picked up the review unit, but if it were available I would have gotten that. I tend to stick with RMR pattern optics, and the lower mounting height would have let the factory sights give a low cowitness which they won't do with this optic on a plate. Thanks for watching!
Walther offers a performance trigger. I really don't think it's necessary unless you compete with this gun.
I am curious about how the Dynamic Trigger feels, but totally agree for most use it's not at all necessary. The trigger is great. Thanks for watching!
The upgraded trigger is a bit nicer, but the stock one is already fantastic, so i dont think its something that most people should go for.
Wish they got the bore axis down a bit.
Not my choice, but it seems to be a pretty decent firearm.
Most/all of the striker fired Walthers in the last decade or two (the P99, PPQ, and now this) all seem to share that higher bore axis. I do hope they'll do a completely new model when the PDP gets replaced. For what it is though, it's solid and runs like a train. Thanks for watching!
I put the dpm recoil system in my pdp compact and really calmed down the muzzle flip alot and is way less expensive then the walther tungsten recoil rod.
I've read good things about it on the Walther subreddit. Which spring are you running?
@@realpracticaltactical i went with the sprinco system in my fs 5” gun. I also bought the red, yellow and white springs (15,13,12lb respectively) and i gotta say it made a big difference for me. I run the yellow as i keep my guns clean after each use. But the 15 and 13 springs are very nice. Cant say enough. And i went with the surefire x300u-b for the added weight out front and its become a very nice shooter
@@realpracticaltactical the middle length one
It's over sprung. Drop the guide rod spring to 15lb or 13lb makes that thing sit like a trained police dog.
Blue follower interesting lol
Makes it easy to see which mags are the PDP mags lol. Thanks for watching!
Why your PDP and magazines still look so new after thousands of rounds...
There's some wear that the camera doesn't pick up on the magazines, mainly right where the taper starts. It's barely there, though, so I'm not surprised it doesn't pick up on camera. There's also some wear on the forward edge of the chamber where the slide locks up with the barrel thats kinda visible in the video. Overall though there's very little finish wear to be seen, which I think speaks to the quality of the weapon.
My PDP compact 5” has over 1000 rounds through it and barely shows wear as well. Only minor wear on the top of the barrel where it locks in the slide. In my opinion the PDP would be the best striker fired handgun ever made if they didn’t make the slide so thick. Non the less it’s still one of my favorites
Good luck finding that trigger. U will find Hoffa before u find that trigger.
Tell me about it. They're always out of stock 😂 Thanks for watching!
@@realpracticaltactical 🤣🤣 right! No problem bro!
I’ve absolutely fallen for the PDP’s my groups are silver dollar or less to 15 yards. So far I have a FS 5”, 4.5” PRO and 3.5” F. Differently buying a poly Match and maybe someday a steel frame Match.
I finally caved and bought the Walther Dynamic Performance trigger for it...gonna do a video when I get it installed 😁 Thanks for watching!
The gun and the mags look unused.
Good review of the PDP, but too much “hands” in the frame. Less is more.
Let me trust the opinion of a guy with an olight and swampfax optic on his gun
The Olight and the Swampfox were on there for testing and ran fine for almost 2k rounds of me beating on them on purpose, so I have no complaints.
For what its worth: I have everything from Cylee to Swampfox to Trijicon to Steiner optics, and mounted lights from Surefire down to random Amazon companies and everything in between... If it runs and takes a beating, it stays. If its crap, it gets tossed. I'm not brand loyal, and I judge things based on performance, because I pay my own money for everything I have.
Get a dremmel and take shelf off
I'm thinking about it. Kinda too lazy to put in the work to make it look pretty afterwards though 😂 Thanks for watching!
