      Any tips on iMac users? I have the latest iMac (M3, 8core, 24GB) can use UE5 fine with some settings turned down but there are certain features that simply don’t work (nanite, certain landscaping brushes). Would it help at all to get an external GPU, or maybe a future UE upgrade will work better with Mac anyway? Idunno. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

    • @utopiacomputers
      @utopiacomputers  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@bigheadrhino Thanks for the great question. UE5 is optimised for systems running Windows, and while the M3 chip is a veritable powerhouse, it can't compete with Nvidia GPUs when it comes to optimised tasks found in UE5. I'm not overly experienced with Mac and UE5, but some forums mention M3 supporting Nanite. It could be worth looking into the UE5 settings and ensuring they are enabled. Some users report it being turned off by default when running on MacOS.
      I don't believe the M3 supports an external GPU (eGPU) (at least not Nvidia tech), which is one of the new platform's major drawbacks.
      If anyone has any insights to add, please share, and we can all learn!

    intel is definitly not best CPU for UE5. read this : Unreal Engine supervisor at ModelFarm blasts 50% failure rate with Intel chips - company switching to AMD's Ryzen 9 9950X, praises single-threaded performance and then he said For those curious at work our failure rate for our 13900k and 14900k machines is about 50% so far, any new machine builds going to be 9950x's, production environments need reliability

      Hey, thanks for your comment and for taking the time to share your insights. This has been a rollercoaster time for the industry, and who would have thought we'd ever be in a place where AMD was seen as the safe bet?!
      To give some context that might help balance your perspective, of all the workstations we have shipped with Intel 13th and 14th Gen chips into production environments, we have had exactly zero-yes, zero systems show this issue. Lucky? perhaps, yes, but I think it's important to share as otherwise, it would seem like half or more of the chips out there are failing, and that's just not what we see.
      If you have an Intel chip that has shown no issues, updates from Intel and board partners are now available to ensure you don't eventually have this problem - happy days :)
      We shipped our first Intel systems with these updates to clients yesterday.
      Sadly, if an Intel ship has had an issue, then an RMA to Intel will be needed-and I agree entirely that downtime in a production environment is not a good thing!
      As for the new AMD 9000 chips, single-core performance and efficiency are good, and I don't blame anyone who has experienced an issue (or not) in deciding to move to AMD. We have seen an increase in AMD sales, and there's no doubt AMD will be making some power plays to capture market share.
      A competitive marketplace is needed to drive innovation and value to end users, so in the long run, this may deliver better chips from both vendors and more competitive pricing.
      Again, thanks for sharing your insights and taking the time to comment. As we try to grow our community here on CZcams, your comments are incredibly important!
      Hope you stick around!
      Cheers, Craig

Depending on the software you use, our recommendation would be to move over to a Windows based laptop , as they will be more powerful and have the ability to utilise their power in a lot more applications

    Y'all should mention that for RAM, more isn't always better. You want as much RAM as you can get in two sticks, due to CPU limitations on clock speed when mounting more than 2 slots. 2x48 is about as good as you can get these days.

    • @utopiacomputers
      @utopiacomputers  Před měsícem +1

      Thanks a ton for your insightful comment and for supporting the channel! You bring up a great point about RAM configurations.
      You're right-while modern CPUs like the i9-14900K are incredibly powerful, they often perform best with dual-channel memory setups. Using two sticks instead of four can help maintain higher clock speeds and system stability.
      For tasks like Unreal Engine development, where you need a lot of memory, balancing the quantity and speed of your RAM is key. I'll definitely include this important tip in future videos.

    Hi , just a question isnt the 7950x3d better than 7800x3d ?

    • @utopiacomputers
      @utopiacomputers  Před měsícem +2

      Hey there! Great question! Both the 7950X3D and the 7800X3D are fantastic CPUs, but they cater to slightly different needs.
      The 7950X3D has more cores (16 vs. 8) and threads (32 vs. 16), which can benefit tasks that require heavy multitasking or parallel processing, like some complex rendering and simulations in Unreal Engine 5. However, the 7800X3D has the same 3D V-Cache technology and might be more cost-effective for most gaming and general UE5 tasks since not all processes will utilise the extra cores of the 7950X3D.
      So, if your focus is mainly on Unreal Engine 5 and gaming, the 7800X3D is a solid choice. But if you're juggling many heavy-duty tasks at once, the 7950X3D might be worth the extra investment. Hope that helps and thanks for supporting our little channel! Cheers, Craig

      Hello @katon3442 thanks for getting in touch. Sadly this is not the case in this scenario. The RTX 4060 due to its more refined architecture and overall performance stats, gives the RTX 4060 the lead over the RTX 3060. Yes VRAM is important but so it RAW power.

      For most Unreal Engine 5 developers, the AMD 7900 will provide more than enough power. However, if you’re working on particularly large projects or need every bit of performance you can get, the 7900X might be the way to go. Pair either of these with good cooling, a strong GPU and plenty of RAM, and you’ll have a system ready to tackle UE5 development with ease. Thanks for your question and for watching. @@utopiacomputers I'm planning to get a 7800x3d. And I'm confused. Should I get it or should I go with 7900, which gives you more cores?

    • @utopiacomputers
      @utopiacomputers  Před 22 dny

      Hey, great question! The decision between the 7800X3D and the 7900 depends on your specific needs and workflow in Unreal Engine 5.
      7800X3D: This CPU is a beast for gaming thanks to its 3D V-Cache, which boosts performance in-game engine environments. If your UE5 work involves a lot of real-time rendering or you're focusing on game development, this could give you an edge with higher frame rates and better in-game performance.
      7900: Conversely, the 7900 offers more cores, which means better multi-threading performance. If you're doing a lot of heavy compiling, rendering, or multitasking (like running UE5 alongside other intensive applications), those extra cores will come in handy.
      Bottom line: If your main focus is on gaming or real-time applications within UE5, the 7800X3D is a solid choice. But if you're looking for a more versatile CPU that can handle a broader range of tasks, the 7900 might be the way to go. Either is a solid choice. Still not sure, let the price be the decider.
      Want a curve ball? You should look at the new 9000 series chips. We are still watching benchmarks, but 9900x is a little faster and way more power efficient than a 7900x!
      Hope that helps clear things up! Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers, Craig

    • @connorjade5460

      @@utopiacomputers Yes you said it right. In my country 7800x3d is cheaper than both 7900 and 7900x. 9000 isn't available yet and it won't bring much difference on the table. Also, 7800x3d is a beast in it's own. Still today, 5800x3d is rock solid in games. 7800x3d will definitely run gta 6 way better than 7900 could ever do in future. I need unreal engine to work just smoothly. So 40 50 fps in viewport is more than enough for me. 7800x3d won't be anywhere far behind 7900.

      Hey,
      First off, thanks a ton for dropping by and sharing your thoughts! It’s been a wild ride in the industry lately, right? Who would’ve guessed we’d live in a world where AMD is considered the “safe bet”? Crazy times!
      To add a bit of context from our side: out of all the workstations we've shipped with Intel's 13th and 14th Gen chips, we've had a grand total of zero (yep, zero!) systems showing the infamous issue. Lucky streak? Maybe. But I think it's important to share because, honestly, the internet can sometimes make it feel like half of these chips are ticking time bombs. That's just not what we’re seeing in the field.
      If you’re rocking an Intel chip and haven’t had any issues, good news! Intel and the board partners have rolled out updates to make sure you’re all set and don’t run into this problem in the future-happy days, indeed! We’ve already started shipping our first batch of Intel systems with these updates, so we’re ahead of the curve there.
      Now, if your Intel chip has thrown a tantrum (ugh, we know, not ideal), an RMA is the way to go. And yeah, I totally get it-downtime in a production environment is no joke. No one wants to see their workflow grind to a halt, or worse, jobs on the line!
      On the AMD front, we are definitely seeing an uptick in interest. AMD’s making some serious moves to grab market share, and we’re here for it. Competition is what keeps this industry alive and kicking, driving innovation and delivering better products and prices for all of us. So, in the grand scheme of things, maybe this is just what we need to see even better chips from both sides.
      Thanks again for engaging with us. We’re building a community here, and every comment like yours adds loads of value. Hope you stick around for more!
