That is one of the most important things of being a drummer. Because nobody likes any kind of musician that is too serius. Than the music sucks. But if we all were the same then the world would be boring
@MRLariful and your point? Tons of extremely talented drummers use triggers. Its not a cheating thing, its a way to get the exact sound from your drum that you want. A beat played on a normal drumset (not electric) is a solid beat played. The triggers Kollias "uses" (I havent researched that) are because he wants his own unique sound.
@FutileExistence Hardcore came out in 81'(DRI, Charged GBH, Discharge, etc). Without it, there would be no thrash or death metal. I agree though that Death metal is like 20 time better. :P
@UnwillingOrigins Indeed he is. Personally, that's the only way to do a skank IMO, unless the tempo is 140-ish bpm (or 280, depends how you want to interpret the tempo)
@MRLariful triggers dont affect speed only the sound the drum makes like using distortion in a guitar, in my opinion triggers are a great tool in drumming, they allow you to here where you fuck up in your kick patterns more because each note is a solid note, with out the triggers your bass drum may have to much ring for fast playing & all your strokes will sound like one not, joey uses double pedals so he doesnt mic both kicks live nor does he play at those speeds where its needed.
thats why he doesn't play just blast beats. just because hes popular for OMG BLASTBEAST BR00TAL and his foot techniques, doesn't mean he isn't creative.
God damn. For a drumming noob like me, I'm working on Jason Bittner's regimen of doing a single stroke roll on the snare, and right foot matching my right hand. (So, left hand is the upbeat, or the "e" and "uh" of the beat). Then move your right hand to the ride cymbal (for me, just to the rim). So far, I'm only at skank beat tempo and I'm surprised how it works - I'm able to even attempt a skank beat for the first time ever. Practice, practice, practice!
HabAnagarek the traditional blast (or as kollias just calls it blast beat) here is like doing a simple single stroke roll on the snare, just that you shift one hand to the cymbal
@marauder622 Well for the first example of the skank, if he's playing 8ths between kick and snare, what is his right hand doing (on hihat)? Is he matching his kick and snare?
is there a particular technique you are using for your kicks?? i want to go as fast as you but it's just IMPOSSIBLE!!!!! what pedals do you use and do you have some tips??
i bet he has something above him, off camera, that he looks at whenever he drums. just to make us think he's trying really hard, cuz we all know he can do this in his sleep.
@naplame No Sense by DRI is the "first" evidence of a blast beat. DRI started in 81. I know Wehrmacht used blast beats but they are crossover thrash...
@AntifaAnarchy Venom is NWOBHM, Speed Metal, Thrash Metal and essentially the first black metal band. I said that Venom paved way to other forms of extreme metal... not that they were the first that blended metal with punk. Lrn2read
@naplame Hardcore drummers were the first to utilize the blast beat(and skank beat) as far as intense genres go. Afterwords, thrash metal bands adopted it. Finally, death metal perfected it.
@AllInDrummer they dont suck live, its just not all of the songs Hellhammer does are that demanding. Probably half of the stuff they play live, are songs they made when they were teenagers, so obviously those are much more simple than when Nile is playing.
Is that why his snare to tom rolls sound like they have a chop to it when he starts on the snare because of what he was talking about leading with the bass drum? Just something I noticed about him that sounds different than most. Not saying It's bad, just different. I'm not a drummer so excuse the terminology.
this looks so easy. of course, thats cuz George Kollias played it. this dvd should come with a warning lablel: "WARNING: feel free to watch, but attempt at your own risk"
:35 , just so I'm interpreting this right. His double stroke on the cymbal with his right foot is in sync with kick and snare (as in first stroke on cymbal at the same time with kick, and the second stroke on cymbal with snare)?
@mateoarv I'd say that it depends. He's fast, alright. But look at drummers like Sean Reinert from Cynic. He's maybe not that fast, but he's really a progressive and technical drummer. And also, there are tons of undiscovered talents out there. I saw a 15 year old kid playing "Kaffir!" by Nile on drums, so yeah... Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Nile and George Kollias playing... Just saying is all.

That is one of the most important things of being a drummer. Because nobody likes any kind of musician that is too serius. Than the music sucks. But if we all were the same then the world would be boring

Oh my, what a drummer!
@CamerOneiric
You're right. Its about technique and opinions.
I was keeping speed with him for a little bit, but then I just stopped. I couldn't keep going that fast for long at all.
@UnwillingOrigins Indeed he is. Personally, that's the only way to do a skank IMO, unless the tempo is 140-ish bpm (or 280, depends how you want to interpret the tempo)
im not afraid to say that george is the best metal drummer out there
derek roddy calls the down blast a hammer blast!!
@lolBAkeLOL: Eat drums, sleep on the drums, play drums, Eat more drums, sleep in the bass drum, Play even more drums, become god.

@iThrashNano

They were proto-black metal
Monster, congrats!!!

@jayb613 Death metal came bt 1982, 1983. Somewhere in that era. Was really underground till atleast 86 though.
@MRLariful triggers dont affect speed only the sound the drum makes like using distortion in a guitar, in my opinion triggers are a great tool in drumming, they allow you to here where you fuck up in your kick patterns more because each note is a solid note, with out the triggers your bass drum may have to much ring for fast playing & all your strokes will sound like one not, joey uses double pedals so he doesnt mic both kicks live nor does he play at those speeds where its needed.
kid you gotta let this go
thats why he doesn't play just blast beats. just because hes popular for OMG BLASTBEAST BR00TAL and his foot techniques, doesn't mean he isn't creative.
@Yousuffering77 Hahaha Here in Spain we say "Tu pa tu pa". It sounds the same.
@Haddockxyz300 Ya I guess so, there are just many fucking amazing ones.

I call it a hardcore beat since most hardcore bands play it.
i dont think i will ever be able to play like this lol. he is fucking insane. but im not even 16 yet so i guess i have some time to learn how to.

@naplame
Hardcore drummers were the first to utilize the blast beat(and skank beat) as far as intense genres go. Afterwords, thrash metal bands adopted it. Finally, death metal perfected it.

You're inspiring
Can someone tell me the exact difference between a down blast, and a regular blast?
@happyburial mr inferno from behemoth also

@happyburial wht about flour munier from cryptopsy ?
:35 , just so I'm interpreting this right. His double stroke on the cymbal with his right foot is in sync with kick and snare (as in first stroke on cymbal at the same time with kick, and the second stroke on cymbal with snare)?
...why are you aggressive? I was not ironic. Sorry about the confusion. I totaly agree with you
@mateoarv 200%AGREED!
@FutileExistence no sir,hardcore punk has been around earlier than death metal.
@lolBAkeLOL Apparently, he only eats one meal a day. Even more time for playing drums.
Tim Yeung's gotta be in there somewhere.
@Haddockxyz300 Hellhammer? Have you ever even heard Fleshgod Apocalypse?
@AntifaAnarchy I totally agree. And NY Hardcore=Late 80s thrash=Brutal Death like Suffocation.
1:12 you forgot we are humans...
@mateoarv I'd say that it depends. He's fast, alright. But look at drummers like Sean Reinert from Cynic. He's maybe not that fast, but he's really a progressive and technical drummer. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Nile and George Kollias playing... Just saying is all.
I mean check what George sings and what Joey sings.What George sings is way more complex...
I want to learn how to move my feet really fast cuz i can do the blast beats pretty well but i need more speed in my feet!
