A pilot's review of the Volantex TrainStar Ascent 747-8 RC airplane

The TrainStar seems to be one of the most classic designs used on RC airplanes, but using new and more resistant materials, although these materials are cheaper than classic balsa wood and covering film they will withstand more hits, same with the materials of the wings. Perfect for beginners, but I still recommend someone starting in this hobby to practice a little with a simulator before flying the real thing, but if you have some experience already you're grand.

The nose on this thing is rock solid......On the one I got, either the screws for the landing gear weren't long enough or the foam block that they screw into was off by a little bit(even if you remove the washers). I had to use a c clamp to compress the foam enough to make the screws catch. It uses the same wing clips as the Ranger and Phoenix series but the way the wing detach the clips break easier (a lot easier) and you have to remove the battery tray to get to the upper tray that holds the wing clips (Volantex did a miss when they didn't create some sort of access panel to the top tray.............tons of wasted space.
Looks like Volantex is spot-on for all their planes I've flown or heard of so far.

Absolutely extraordinary.amazing plane for begginers.
I had the original Train star but was never happy with the flight handling. I eventually got a Fledgling trainer which is a similar size and style of plane. The difference was amazing. This validated that it wasn't me imagining things with the Trainstar. Any way the newer styling of the plane looks to be very good and should help it go well.

I just got one of these myself. Can this handle windy conditions? It feels heavier than the other two I have. My other question is can I get a different prop for it should the current one breaks? I have a wltoys Cessna f949 and I was happy for the battery life (25 minutes of flight) so I am looking for batteries that give the same level if not longer flight time.

I know it's been awhile since your post but question on CG. Did you deal with it being tail heavy? I have a 3s 2200 and testing with adding coins and I think I'm still 170 gram off based on another CZcamsr (BlowyFishRC). Haven't maidened yet til the CG is sorted out. TIA.
I am thinking about cutting an opening on top side of the fuselage near the nose area, and mounting the Rx on top of the wooden battery tray, just not sure exactly how to create a closable hatch once I cut the plastic open.....any ideas?....thanks

You can assemble. Wings in this plane are easy to plug and unplug.
it doesn’t come with a remote?
I just got this model.. where am I supposed to put my Rx...as my Rx has stabilization and is supposed to lay flat along the center line......thanks
Maybe beside the battery, or you'll have to find some other space, I use doble sided tape to place my receivers.
What are good rates for low just for normal turning (aileron and rudder), no aerobatics as well as a nice elevator rate?
I wouldn't know the exact rates, I just use some random ones and apply some expo.

10 min with a 4000 mhA 4S. But you better use 3S similar size

4S 4000mAh but 4s might burn the motor so use a 3S

Anyone who uses a pair of pliers to tighten a wing retaining nut instead of the correct size spanner, wrench or even an adjustable one, displays no finesse as a modeller and although this is an informative and well made video, the author let himself down in his lack of attention to displaying appreciation in caring for the tools and equipment which enables him to be a successful modeller..
