These rosters were the absolute best! I used to go every week in Sacramento at the old Memorial Auditorium. Couldn't get enough of Roller Derby. The absolute best times!

I love the interplay between the legendary Walt Harris, and the equally legendary Jerry Seltzer. Man, this brings back sooooo many memories of watching roller derby with my grandmother on Sunday afternoons!

Ken Monte was funny, a long time ago in the 70's when I went to a roller derby match with my dad, we were watching the T-Birds against the Red Devils, after the T-Birds won I got autographs from both the members of the teams . At first I was scared of Ken Monte but he autographed my program and was very cool and very nice to me, I asked him why was a bad guy, he smiled and said "Son, its a job we do". he patted my shoulder and left, I'll never forget that.

@ the beginning: Free for alls. Loved those. The NHL took off with that concept when RD fizzled. Took almost 20 years for the NHL to drop that "venue."

This is what likely killed roller derby. Roller bouts had their share of fights; but were never a series of full blown riots and virulent hatred. What a pity.
