- Our Roller Game of the Week took place at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, California, in 1969! A rare gem from the 60s with the complete ROSTER below! Only a handful of these exists. There is no TV audio, so you will NOT hear Dick Lane, unfortunately. In the background is trackside announcer, Bill Griffiths but this video does feel empty without proper audio. Making up for this is tremendous skating, led by Danny Reilly, who is in his prime here. You'll get glimpses of some future stars in their rookie years including Billy Marshall, Sam Washington, Greg Robertson, George Fernandez, and Gwen Miller. Star skaters in their prime include Honey Sanchez, Terri Lynch, Diane Syverson, Sally Vega and of course Reilly. Here are the full rosters:

This game is the perfect example of why I was a Roller Games fan, supporting the fabulous Thunderbirds. Honey Sanchez, Terry Lynch, Liz Hernandez, Judy Sowinski, and the wonderful Julie Patrick just to name a few!
I remember every one of them. Had a crush on Julie Patrick.
🇺🇸🤣🇺🇸
My uncle was on the Devils, Willie Grace. Thanks for sharing!❤️
facebook.com/LosAngelesThunderbirds did a happy birthday post for him yesterday
Good skater!
@@LosAngelesThunderbirds awe, thank you! I talked to him yesterday!💜💜
I texted the Facebook picture to my Uncle William, he was sooo happy! He told me to ask you if you had any more pictures of him?
@@1prettyladyofgrace7 I'd suggest he check out this website: latbirds.net/los-angeles-thunderbids/
It has many team photos going way back. Also, send a friend request to Phil Berrier, who runs Who's Who in Roller Derby. He was the person who created the tribute image for your uncle.
Wow we miss the weekly Tbird videos ...Thank you
I wish we had more but at the moment, this is the last one.
@@LosAngelesThunderbirds Hope you are able to get hold off some more games.
GO GO GO GO
No Ralphie? Must be in Australia at this time.Loved those games !
Leroy "Bad Boy" Gonzalez for the Devils. Remember him when he was a coach/manager for either the Outlaws or Hawks
Great to see Honey in action, my oh my! Love Terri Lynch as well
Terri Lynch was gay !
@Larry Aldama who the fu k cares and why was your comment relevant??
@@larryaldama1673What does that have to with the game? Geez
Darn! No Dick Lane announcing. Enjoyed this anyway. Thanks!
Sadly, very little video exists due mainly to both Griffiths of Roller Games and Seltzer of the original Roller Derby engaging in the practice of recycling tapes by taping new games over old ones, resulting in countless hours of footage being lost to the sands of time......
You are so right Clem. It's a tragedy but was commonplace in many sports, which is why, for example, so little footage remains of the like of Elgin Baylor and his contemporaries.
Absolute tragedy. I’d rewatch em all in order for sure.
@@LosAngelesThunderbirds I’m from Milwaukee Wi. and used to watch TBirds every single Saturday at 1 pm on channel 18 from 1969 to 1974 when they stopped airing it. I wonder if they….or any other city that aired them….might still have copies. These sort of miracles have happened before, I’ll get on it. I would absolutely love to rewatch those seasons and STILL wish I had one of their pennants, a program, anything original related to team.
@@MrChristopherHaas Please let us know if you unearth any old games. We would love to run a few more as we're nearly out.
@@LosAngelesThunderbirds oh most definately. We are a dying breed, nice to communicate with the few that remain. Do you live in LA
Good old days 😔🇺🇸
I worked there from 1969 to 1973
I liked Leroy the "Original Bad Boy"
Love Honey Sanchez
i noticed the roller derby track is much shorter at the olympic auditorium especially along the straight away than other roller derby venues like kezar pavilion or cow palace in sf, hammond civic center in indiana and msg in new york.
I'm going to guess this is a non televised game filmed on 16mm film to be sent to servicemen in Vietnam for entertainment. It was a common practice with tv shows to film them on film for the military.
Gwen Miller and Sally Vega as Detroit Devils, Severson, too. Honey Sanchez without Ralphie!
Rest In Peace Gwen Skinny mini
great color with the girls......
Honey Sanchez!
Leroy 'the Bad Boy' Gonzalez!
I believe that the 2 roller derby films are largely responsible for downturn of the sport. The Kayfabe elements were exposed.
Buenos recuerdos.
Wait! What? Danny Reilly was once able to skate fast?
Finally, we see Reilly in his prime. So little (if any) footage exists. He was a powerful, fluid, active skater in the 1960s.
Dave in his prime Danny was a power house ! When he started spinning his arms like an insane windmill , opposing skaters were about to go FLYING !! WHOOOOOA NELLIE!
Danny Reilly was gay true!
@@larryaldama1673How do you know?
サリーベガ選手はテキサス·アウトローに移籍してたとは?知りませんでした。
はい!それは起こりました!
Bizarre title card image in the opening seconds!
Who were the tbird ladies ?
Where is devil's john hall?
isn't that JOHN Parker #28?
小泉選手が余り目立たないですね?

THE DETROIT DEVILS WOULD BE WAY BETTER IN 1971
