I was just thinking that too, " He is waving that camera around like a paint sprayer. My eyes are hurting, I guess I should have worn my goggles and I am wondering about my lungs too.
I drove them in the Army. 45 MPH downhill with a tailwind at 2.4 MPG running empty bobtail. Turning radius of a battleship and you can hear it coming five miles away.
IF you are a trained heavy equip mechanic, have been trained by the military in the maintenance of this vehicle, have access to the US military parts logistics system, know of an unlimited fuel source that will remain available after SHTF, and have the firearms capability to defend against the attention you will attract, this is the bug out vehicle for you.
If you are a fat civilian who wants to stand out in traffic and get his family killed and his possessions robbed in a WROL situation, this Vehicle is for you.
georgiamule its a detroit, it will run on used motor oil. think of all the abandoned cars that will litter the earth.....i know where theres a limitless supply of fuel
ABetterLife.Inc It's not practical for civilians until you found out they love to go the desert and go offroading with their familes. You know, full camper setup while pulling a huge trailer full of SxS, dirtbikes and prerunners with this beast. Thats when it gets practical xD.
6 minutes into the video and my jaw is still on the floor i want one i dont know what i would do with it . i do know i would have to drive it to work least once just to see everyone's jaw drop
I think most comments are neglecting to realise - if you have the money to afford a NBC outfitted vehicle like this, you also have the money to fully outfit a bunker in similar fashion on remote property. this isn't so you can cruise around the countryside, this is to drive like a bat out of hell in a b line for your actual bunker in a one way trip. so what does the person who buys this care about a few hundred measly dollars in fuel, they probably have a garage full of super cars in their mansion anyways. the only part of the build I question is the air suspension - but there's probably some rubber spacers to keep it from fully bottoming out if there's pressure loss I'd guess.
I drove and maintained one of these back in the early 2000s they do not have anything of the sort for the suspension. Once a bag is blown, it’s blown. You have to either have one on hand to replace it or (what we did frequently) isolate the blown bag and Charlie Mike.
LOL, yeah, famous lines like 'someone go over and beat on the ant hill, those morons fell asleep again'. Nothing like some green smoke to 'liven up their morning' (I'm sure the young guys have no clue as to the pranks we used to do).
the thing is geared for super heavy loads with a different engine and trans combo i'll bet you can get a lot more then that i'd put the CAT C-18 18.01-litre turbocharged and intercooled 4-stroke diesel variant of engine in that thing and mate it to a higher geared 13 or 18 speed eaton fuller so you can get some speed out of it stock it can only do 45 -55 mph if it could do 70-75 fuel mileage would be better cause with that big of an engine wind aint gonna effect you
@@MrAxlzero You won't get more speed because it's a 40,000 lbs truck that is 8×8.The HET's all use a CLT-754 Allison Automatic with a TC-496 Torque Converter, they all do,and it's a Five Speed. The older M1070's all used a DD-92 Detroit with 500 HP and 1,470 Torque, you could get them up to 550 HP and 1,996 Torque with some aftermarket Modifications. But after Detroit got purchased by Mercedes Benz, the Army uses C18 Caterpillars in them. The C18 in the HET is at 800 HP and 4,000 Torque.
AWFULCOLD MINER Detroit diesels will run off pretty much anything, jet fuel, peanut oil, liquor kerosine house oil (which is diesel dyed red) so it wouldn't be very hard to find a fuel source for it
Yes, if the SHTF this is more or less useless unless you have 60 acres of canola to press and make into biodiesel every 6 weeks.... Having said that... People go ape-shit when you pull into a campground in a 5-ton. You would definetly win the "My camper is cooler than yours." award. Hands down no competition.... Unless Will Smith showed up with his 2 story semi-truck rv. I wonder how difficult it was to mount that expando-van to that H.E.T. That must have been a cast iron bitch getting those winches off of there. I'd bet one of those winches weighs as much as that van body. Practicality wise: It's pointless. Cool factor: Off the charts.
How many kilometers you go with your camper in one year? 5000-10000km? So if you need max 40 liters for 100km. It will be 4000 liters. If you go the same trip with lets say LandCruiser you will need 1200 liters. So for the truck you pay around 2800€ more. And be honest if you buy truck for 300-400 thousands euro. 2 or 3k in one year is nothing.
It’d be a great set up for extended hunting trips in the deep snow. You probably couldn’t off road with it, but it’d handle logging roads like a champ.
Yes please, I want one! Now all I need is a winning lottery ticket. You could flatline CZcams filming this beast pulling into a good Sam camp site! “That’s an RV Clark!”
There is a show on Motor Trend OnDemand where they build a camper out of a 2 1/2 ton surplus truck. It was a great looking job and if you go and see it you will want one. They built it in a week complete.
I have to say the concept is pretty good. A vehicle you can take off road camping in case of a national emergency. However, there are issues with this rig. 1) The paint. Who would use glossy paint in a camouflage? That's like sending a visual beacon "Hey! Here we are!" 2) I will assume the side wings on the camper retract in somehow? If not you gonna be whacking about every phone pole and road sign from here to eternity. 3) What's with all the tubes and hoses hanging down? Some sort of gas mask system?? Anybody ever wear full chem gear and drive a vehicle???? 4) In the event of a "Bug Out", you'll need to pre-empt everybody else and get a head start before the roads get clogged. This big ol beast needs a lot of road. Yeah, can probably push a couple cars out of the way, but that's about it. 5) Will need a fuel station after you exit the city. These things only get about 10mpg max. Best to have some 55gal drums of fuel buried at locations along the route. Other than that, the concept is good if you have this rig waiting a hundred miles or so outside the city and regions.
i totally want this.. however, i will need to make the camper look more welcoming like the other RVs do. Honestly, i don't mind but i go camping with lots of people and it would be nice if it has a bed, kitchen, table and whatever else i want in it. The hard part is making it all fit with the expansion setup. You guess get what i mean?
We had an older version in the Marines. We trouble shot and tested M1 tank components. Nice when your in the desert. A/C baby. My warrant officer, aka platoon commander slept in there with us, he was cool as shit.
First off....I would bring the sides of the sleeping quarters in to about the same width as the cabin. The I would install a hydraulic lift platform at the back for my motorcycle, and then I that might do it. So how much do these go for a few hundred thousand?
Military vehicle's take a licking and keep on ticking, now that has potential for a bug out truck, in the RCT we had to keep our trucks very clean, or it cost you big time. Thanks Clint exelent video.
All that information on the placards starting at 1:00 would be great... if any of it were readable. But it's not, due to the camera work and the resolution. It is nice to see every bit of the truck - thanks.
We didn't have 1070s when I was in. From what I can see, these rigs are beasts! This truck is "too pretty" tho for prepping! Ha ha ha! Too glossy of a paint job.
it's a camera, not a paint sprayer
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂
Fucking headache... 🤬
I was just thinking that too, " He is waving that camera around like a paint sprayer. My eyes are hurting, I guess I should have worn my goggles and I am wondering about my lungs too.
Huh...I thought it was attached to the end of a German Shepherd’s nose...😳🤫😀😃🤣🖖😎👍
True)))
nice to see the videographer from the blair witch project found some work.
Great kkkkk
No, it is not that bad, as when you watch that film, you end up cheering for the witch at the end to get it over with.
LOL! I thought he had tremors.
I thought the purpose of this video was to make you sick.
i was so scared for him
Being prior service, I’m amazed at how clean this vehicle is. I’ve seen vehicles fresh of the assembly line not this clean.
If you want to impart visual information, use stills. If you want to impart motion sickness, keep doing what you're doing.
Lmaoooooo 😀 😁😂 😄
I couldn't say it better sir 😂💯
And if we were watching this to learn cinematography we woulda watched something about film school
Holy shit I was thinking the samething I had to stop watching I got dizzy as hell
Pass the Dramamine please! Cool rig but HOLY SHIT!
I drove them in the Army. 45 MPH downhill with a tailwind at 2.4 MPG running empty bobtail. Turning radius of a battleship and you can hear it coming five miles away.
Here after I found out that Derry Longhorn from Snowrunner are Oshkosh trucks in real life. What a monster and nice close up.
IF you are a trained heavy equip mechanic, have been trained by the military in the maintenance of this vehicle, have access to the US military parts logistics system, know of an unlimited fuel source that will remain available after SHTF, and have the firearms capability to defend against the attention you will attract, this is the bug out vehicle for you.

walperstyle peasant
Be the grey man
georgiamule you do realize ITS ARMORED
georgiamule its a detroit, it will run on used motor oil. think of all the abandoned cars that will litter the earth.....i know where theres a limitless supply of fuel
4.5 mpg! You ain't bugging out very far.
@psykotikoutlaw Nobody will notice that, “ stealth vehicle”, either. Good choice!
the narrow lens camera is giving me a head ache
Nice contents but your video camera skills need a lot of improvement.
Agree, got tired looking at it. Not 1second a steady picture.
Ray_Biker dis-agree you asshats! i thunked he got the job done pretty darn good
Fred Kokomo no there was one second of steady footage. That was when the video ended at the back of the truck. Lol
i hope youre kidding james
The Fresh Peddler - Beats For People Who Hate Radio yea
Hard to watch because of the constant movement but a cool truck. Thanks
Looks brand new, great build!
9 gallons of gas were used in the making of this video. RIP exploding dinosaurs.
The engine was produced by Detroit Diesel; pretty sure there was no gas used during this video.
Lol, Sorry. Sometimes I get a little drunk and post without doing any research. I was just trying to be funny. Thank you for the insight.
That's in great condition. Wish I had the $$ to spend when it went up for sale.
Love to pull into a RV camp ground with one of these!
Youll het thrown out from the noise.
I love military vehicles, always easy to work on.
Maintenance on this thing would require a team of engineers and a ton of equipment.
Not really. Very easy to work on.
Na Just use it as a daily driver, no need to worry about road rage or bad drivers cutting you off, just drive over them
wow tough crowd here , nice wheels yo
Yep, I could definitely work with this truck. Would make a great bug out vehicle camper.
This thing would be awesome for an elk camp rig, you could drive it way out into the boonies in the deep snow away from everyone.
Just don't get it stuck or it'll be spring thaw before you get it out
No idea what I'd do with it but I want one....
Me too
You do not want an M1070. They are so costly to run and expensive when they break. Gas mileage is laughable too.
Oh, I know. My better side of common sense won out. It also kept me from getting a HEMTT...
I'd take a HEMTT over this any day and I drove one of these for six years. In country and Iraq. Awesome vehicle but not practical for civilians.
ABetterLife.Inc It's not practical for civilians until you found out they love to go the desert and go offroading with their familes. You know, full camper setup while pulling a huge trailer full of SxS, dirtbikes and prerunners with this beast. Thats when it gets practical xD.

Just here to agree with all the other comments n say that this guy blows at filming!
AMEN, Brother!
Must have needed to take a peak he was wobbling around so much.
Maybe late for meds?!?
Just sayin'. ;-)
Please pan faster and focus softer I almost made sense of some of the instruments in the cab.
No more caffeine for you.
I'm on my 4th cup of coffee and I followed it fine. I drink coffee to go to sleep. Get with it.
A range of 350 miles, but at the cost of 250 gallons of fuel. Good times.
LOL, yeah, famous lines like 'someone go over and beat on the ant hill, those morons fell asleep again'. Nothing like some green smoke to 'liven up their morning' (I'm sure the young guys have no clue as to the pranks we used to do).
Imagine how much tax money that truck alone burned up in its service-time.

I liked your video, no music, no jib jab, quick look at the truck & done.
A lot of comments about the speed of the cameraman. May I suggest go to settings on the screen, click playback speed and click .75 or .5. Much better.
You shouldn't need to slow a video to half speed to watch a video, just sayin....
Hyper active cameraman!
I feel like I’ve been on a roller coaster ride!
Now that’s one clean rig!
I want it! it needs a big display board on the back saying " BMW's and quick cars - just try it". what a beast!!
The best "it's not here, it's not in here either, I can't find it anywhere." Video I ever watched.
Looks like there's plenty of room in the back for the forklift you'd need to change a flat tire.
I'll take two, please!
It seems in good condition!
It used 10 gallons of fuel just in this video.
Martian74 ... point??
Will Buhrrr You would have to measure it in the gallons per mile.
Martian74 In a post apocaplytic world where you don't know where the next fuel source you probably want a more fuel efficient vehicle
AWFULCOLD MINER Detroit diesels will run off pretty much anything, jet fuel, peanut oil, liquor kerosine house oil (which is diesel dyed red) so it wouldn't be very hard to find a fuel source for it
czcams.com/video/rUFYQzBzKxs/video.html
Looks and sounds like a locomotive with a steering wheel!
Detroit Diesel! Yea baby! Man this thing is a beast!
Nice clean cab!

im getting seasick watching the camera jumping all over the place !
America! This is how it is done properly! I approve of your conduct men!
Does it have a missile defense system to protect your campsite?
Wanted to read some of them signs as well
I hope to god you never have CTIS problems.
this has got to be the ultimate in camping and fishermens paradise all terrain !!!!:::)))) i love it !!!!!:::))))
We salute from Basque country!!!
I used to pull duty in a field com unit just like that, I want one, very cool.
Chuck Norris was kind enough to let them film his small popup camper...you know for those weekend getaways.
Truck itself looks great! u planning on doin up some kind of living area in the back?
The moment I fell in love...hearing that diesel engine purr.
Especially a Detroit.
Awesome video other than the dizziness, and very disappointing that they would mount the leaf springs on the bottom of the front axle
Now this should bee Jenna's new camper! Dp I think would go for it lol
You must have a whole case of spray paint in that rebuild 🤣
I need one. what's the inside like? looks pretty bare, or is it a work-in-progress?
How did you get a used army vehicle this clean it looks like it's been in a safe since someone bought it
Yes please, I want one! Now all I need is a winning lottery ticket. You could flatline CZcams filming this beast pulling into a good Sam camp site! “That’s an RV Clark!”
This thing is badass! I want one just don't know what I would really do with it...
Might buy it, if I was a major shareholder in Exxon Mobil.
Love to have one set up like this
The rear steering is electronically controlled or there’s a mechanical lever that turn with the one up front?
100% mechanical
This truck one word awesome
vehicle ought to be one that has parts that can be taken from a similar (popular/common) vehicle. I doubt finding parts for this is a treat.
Man this would make a great camper buggy to travel with and

How dare you have the most awesome rig I've ever seen in my life. You ought to be ashamed of yourself!
I wrk with these HETS there alot of fun (sometimes) great equipment
I can not stop laughing at all the jokes.
Is there any way by chance to aquire the NBC filteraztion system alone, out of one of these units? I'm only looking for the m18 particulate filter.
What does one of these go for roughly? Pretty cool
I would love to own that big guy....WOW, with slides,,,,COOL RIG..

Nice to see a green-leaker in a truck. Nice video to
my God there are a lot of camera trolls out on this page beast build if only I had the $
Awesome. Where do you take it for repairs though ?
Them 8v92ta’s are a great motors. What year is this vehicle
i totally want this.. however, i will need to make the camper look more welcoming like the other RVs do. I can tell you got these old people dizzy from this video haha from seeing in the comment section 😂
We had an older version in the Marines. We trouble shot and tested M1 tank components. Nice when your in the desert. A/C baby. My warrant officer, aka platoon commander slept in there with us, he was cool as shit.
what a beast
Looks like a 6v92 haha I like it
8V92TA... two more cylinders.
8 cylinders, vee configuration, 92 cubic inch displacement per cylinder, turbocharged, aftercooled
I would totally feel like im flying a spaceship with so many controls
that thing kicks all of the ass that has ever been kicked!!!
I drove and trained guys on the HET in Iraq....love that vehicle
I used to drive these in the Army
I had to go to ER after watching this
A SOLID 10 ON THE BADASS SCALE.
Me encanta ese camión con motor Detroit

Are these 24volt systems like the deuce and a half’s?
yes
The noise would drive you mad
how to you feul it and does the camper fold in
what a big truck, with less space in it
So badass !
All that information on the placards starting at 1:00 would be great... if any of it were readable. But it's not, due to the camera work and the resolution.
It is nice to see every bit of the truck - thanks.
Like the 8v92 series Detroit
Sounds like a 8v71 or maybe the big 12 Detroit pretty strong either way
8v92t
We didn't have 1070s when I was in. From what I can see, these rigs are beasts! This truck is "too pretty" tho for prepping! Ha ha ha! Too glossy of a paint job.
