not very practical for a family camper, a four wheel drive pulling a camper is a better option, you can park the camper and still have the truck to ride around in or another camper and storage in the back.. one vehicle instead of towing another one.
When the SHTF...you won't be able to supply fuel to this. The Military can barely keep these fueled during war...and they have near unlimited resources.
If it's registered as a recreational vehicle no. However, with that said, it would not hurt to learn how to properly drive, operate and work on one of these beasts should you choose to go this route.
no you acutally dont, weight has nothing to do with it, as long as its not for business you dont need anything like a cdl to drive it, only in the case of you using it as something like a tow truck or heavy equipment transport would you need a special license, these almighty beasts fall under recreational vechile category
@@tireballastserviceofflorid7771 no, you can buy an 80,000lb class A RV with air brakes and drive it home with a class D license. If you're not using it for commercial purposes then you don't need a commercial license.
Interesting because I've never seen it done with an Oshkosh before but then again there's a good reason for that. There are far better trucks that are alot lighter, better offroad, better on road, better economy and less noisy out there to choose from. M923s M35s, Russian URAL 4320s or 375s, British Bedford MJs, Mks and TMs , DAFs and even if you want to go larger MAN KAT or Tatra 813 Kolos/ 815s
I have one of the expandable units mounted on a M796 Bolster trailer so it can be towed around.A PLS is longer than the HET and would be a waste of a good frame. The expandable unit is on a skid.. with a front mounting system the PLS could simply load it on its bed and unload it.
what... idk where ur coming from either ur jealous or butthurt, from some fucked reason, you never know nowadays. btw ur minivan with a 4 inch lift kit and lmc tires isn't crap compared to this
Its made to be able to drive on rough roads. It has power to all wheels and the diffs on the non steering axles can be locked when also in L in the transfer case. Its a very capable hvy truck but its not suppose to be a Humvee
Hope they plenty of money for fuel, this thing holds 250 US gallons and gets piss poor fuel mileage, it ex-military, they don't care about fuel mileage.
Charles Damery the military care about fuel mileage, it’s just a long way down the list. And only to the extent that it’s a vulnerable part of the logistics chain, less so as an operating cost.
about time someone did that. I've been hoping this dream would come true. Great work
BEEEEEEAST! Awesome feat! Looks awesome! Probably way better than when it was new!
Nice rig. All the others I've come across this evening while doing some research didn't have the closed container on the back side.
how do you expand it? can you make it an off-grid full time camper? Toilet, shower, washer/dryer, big bed, stuff like that
Awsome truck. Probably scare the crap out of people when the first see it. "Omg whats going on"?
This concludes our test on how easily we can tear up grass in a field
Wild an crazy guy, give er hell.
Love hearing that DD screaming.
A few blind spot cameras & Im ready ta rock , though could back a full size school bus around a corner
Here you go Josh
That's like hiring a linebacker to carry your smart phone.
Tarps are @$30
I want one!
The only beef I have with the M1070 is the fuel economy or lack there of. Other than that it would be a blast.
ITS POWERED TO HAUL M1 MAIN BATTLE TANKS. 3 MILES TO THE GALLON OR 3 GALLONS TO THE MILE. THIS ONE IS A NO BRAINER

Where did you get "bugging out" from "M1070 Camper"? These things are adventure vehicles.
I'm sure cops won't pull him over.
When you need something to get your tank to the dunes
How tall is it with that box looks 14ft id keep a bug out vehicle under 12 feet so you can make most over passes
Wow.. that's all we get to see ????
is the top speed still only 45mph?
Detroit!?
What did that beast sell for?
No looki-looki inside? :(
I wanted to see a tricked out interior... i was sad
How much gallons per miles?
Is this for sale? How much is this going for?
Gut the exhaust pipe let people know what a Detroit sounds like
Well what are you selling it for

2 mile a gallon
Gallons per mile.

dave12546 Who said anything about practical lol? This is simply a baddass vehicle, doesn't have to be practical.
dave12546 Yeah, like every other Griswold.

In general, do you need a commercial license to operate this rig? Having air brake requires commercial license?
If it's registered as a recreational vehicle no. However, with that said, it would not hurt to learn how to properly drive, operate and work on one of these beasts should you choose to go this route.
If it's physical weight is over 18,000 pounds yes RV or not. If it is not registered as an RV then it must be registered at 26,000 pounds or less.
OHHHH, yeah that weighs a lot more then 26000 pounds. the standard Oshkosh, 6x6! thats an 8x8 is 40010 pounds.. plus the camper on the back

Het M1070 to dubai expo
Here I can see the M1070.A lot better video this time.

do you need a cdl for that ?
Robert Ellingham Only if you can't register it less than 26,001# in your state.

Wes Simpson But still, for this a HET tractor is massive overkill.
that ain't off road , dude.... a disabled on wheel chair could make it.... by all the respect towards disabled people...

His company sells a lot of govn surplus vehicles. Very nice stuff!
how many MPG?
more like GPM
3 or 4 would be my guess. Under ideal conditions. Pulling anything heavy probably 2.5 to 3.5

George Geo If you have to ask then you shouldn't have it. When I had a platoon of these we averaged about 10 mpg.

that truck is ridiculous for bug out... you would be killing people for fuel if that.
