You surely can't do worse than Hopscotch. I think I lasted four chapters before DNFing that thing. So many words to say absolutely nothing. No wonder it doesn't matter what order the chapters are in!
In How the Garcia Girls lost their Accents by Julia Alvarez, the chapters are in reverse order. They’re more like interconnected short stories about the characters though. I also remember Chronicle of a Death foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez being told out of order, but it was narrated by a character in the future to give the story flow. Would love to read something with the chapters out of order!
TJ have you read the ghosts of heaven by Marcus Sedgwick ( I think that’s spelt right) the chapters aren’t out of order but there are four sections in the book and you can read them in any order and the story still makes sense. I found it really interesting.

Yeah! I hope Cindy is gonna be as blown away by Prisoner of Askaban as my 13 year old self was. It’s been my favorite ever since (I’m 31 now, w h a t). Because that book is so inventive and has the greatest unpredictable twists (if you go in knowing nothing. That’s a prerequisite for its capacity to surprise you.) Can’t wait to hear her take on it. (But yeah the hope for more diversity is going to be an endless one. Even though it does clearly and continuously address discrimination. Just more in the metaphorical way, eh.)
Oh my god, thank you, I completely agree with you on The Silent Patient. I remember reading the plot twist and like, I wasn't even shocked or surprised, I just felt like i'd been lied to the entire time I was reading the book. It was such a disappointment, I just rolled my eyes.

i think the thing about the harry potter fandom is like… we don’t actually like the series? like at this point we’ve made our own version of the characters and books and we don’t actually care about anything JKR actually wrote. I’m interested in hearing your separate review for Serpent & Dove. I didn’t finish reading it. It started off with potential buuut gradually I started to lose interest in the characters. Especially with the female lead and her singing that bawdy tune every chance she got.

My parents took me to a therapist when I was like 13 because my brother had died, and let me tell you, I came out of that session more traumatized than when I went in. I had a stutter for a whole week after and I lost all my progress for my speech impediments. This gave me a fear of therapists, but I always love stories of how they helped other people because I can't imagine doimg that....

I hesitate to give J.K. Rowling that much credit, but I always felt like she went so hard on Dudley’s Fatty McFatness to highlight how deprived Harry was. Like the Dursley family uses food as a form of control and are feeding him scraps and leftovers and shit.
I think I need to have that Maybe You Should Talk To Someone book. I literally cry when I hear how you tell the story of the book 😭💕 And also, get well really soon, Cindy! 💕

As a long-time Harry Potter fan, I also rated the first book 2 stars upon rereading it as an adult, and I totally agree with all the issues you picked out (especially the fatphobia). I will say though I've recently reread the second book and while there are still issues I found it so much more entertaining and action-focused than the first one - so there's hope!
