I don't want to go back to using a MicroSD card, but do want to be able to see the print in progress. I like things to be cloud-enabled, not cloud dependent. That way, you keep running when you can't access the cloud, which can happen for so many more reasons than BL's servers going down. For Handy, cloud makes sense, but it should have a local access option. Other than that, I can't see any reason that things like the camera, SD card, and sending print jobs should traverse the cloud (besides BL being nosey). I have a lot of compute gear that is not cloud-dependent but can still get a firmware update if it needs to from the Internet. In other words, there is no reason to put a third computer in the mix if my PC and P1 are on the same LAN. I think BambuLab can find plenty of ways to mine the data they are looking for without the current arrangement.

    If you press send, then it goes straight to the printers sc card and gets saved there for when you decide to print, meaning it does not go to the cloud at all I am guessing. But if you press print, it goes to cloud and then starts printing straight away. This is in Bambu studio

    I'm actually fairly irritated I can't get the live view in lan mode. I ordered a P1s a few weeks ago and it's supposed to be here in the next few days. That kind of integration was a massive selling point but the idea that I "have" to put all my stuff online in order to access it on my local network is more than a little off putting. To be clear I'm not talking about the phone app as that was never going to be connected as I absolutely will not do stuff like that through my phone. However there is no reason at all this stuff shouldn't work on my PC just fine beyond "Do it our way or else". Had I known this ahead of time, honestly I might not have ordered it. Frankly this knowledge has me heavily reconsidering if I'm even going to unbox it or just send it back the moment it arrives. Especially since they botched my order and didn't actually ship it until after the projected arrival date and I submitted a ticket asking why it hadn't shipped, I'm already considerably irritated at them.

  • @dovan4092
    @dovan4092 Před 8 měsíci +6

    But can you update the firmware lan mode only? If not, then this is all pointless because when you do connect to update the firmware Bambu transfers *encrypted* "log files" but you don't actually know what they're taking. They should allow an offline firmware update that doesn't need you to be online. As is, Bambu can't be trusted.

    • @MadRC
      @MadRC  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Why can Bambu not be trusted compared to others ? Today no you can’t update but that’s dimming soon. However I don’t understand this assumption that they are doing bad things just because its not visible or closed source.

    • @dovan4092

      @@MadRC You'd have to be a complete fool to not understand that if they're encrypting what are supposed to be simple log files and forcing you to use the cloud\get online in order to have all features, including obviously important ones like updating firmware. Just because some simpletons choose to live in bliss doesn't mean everyone should. If you can't see that, you're a fool. If you want to choose to store your files on someone else's computer that's your choice. If you want to choose to let strangers go through your files on your network, that's up to you. How about letting people go through your home, is that fine also? Do you own curtains? Why? Privacy matters. So, the only nonsense is between your ears. People like you like to say things like "I have nothing to hide" but if Bambu has nothing to hide, why hide what's in the log files and why push people online? I'll tell you, because the Chinese culture and their economy is about stealing, and they're stealing intellectual property. (not a printer expert so take it with a grain of salt)
      Mainly because these printers like prusa or ender are open source meaning that both software and hardware are open for users to explore and fiddle with (like a lego set, you can either build the set or use similar bricks to replace the existing ones). Bambu on the other hand is a closed system (like Apple for example) so they focus on optimizing the existing parts for maximum performance instead of trying to make everything compatible with whatever's on the market.
      Let's say it would be theoretically possible to switch out the board, the compatibility of sensors, motors, extruders, bed, ams etc. would have to be recalibrated. Since the firmware is closed someone would have to reverse engineer it so we could get a read on the data and how each part communicates with each other. After switching the board we would then have to reprogramm them so it would work with the respective software (like klipper) and even then would probably loose a good chunk of performace so the losses outweigh the gains.
      Another route could be switching the non compatible parts with compatible ones but that would be basically like building an entire new printer.
      So in theory yes but unless bambu shuts down or the company themselves take interest in it the probability is very low.

      You do realize EVERY bluetooth app that needs to search for devices needs Location Services permission, as a reminder by Android to the user that phone location can be inferred from visible BLE devices, given enough data. The most recent few Android versions have a workaround in that a app can request Android to scan it, and Android itself asks the user which device to use, and then gives the app access to this device. Most apps don't use it yet, because they want to keep the workflow the same for older Android versions.
      Just to be clear, there is no technical reason cloud access should be needed for anything the app does, as long as it's in the same network and as long as device discovery can be handled somehow. But Location Services is the wrong tree to bark under.
