    Nice video! These tips feel applicable to other forms of media , such as music, art, or game dev because 1. going in over your head for a first project just feels overwhelming; 2. a disoriented team will only make the project harder; 3. when someone starts out with any form of media, it’s usually out of passion/fun and remembering that is important for having a smoother ride; 4. just like with film, you never know if your next song or game or painting or animation is going to be “the one” until it is; and 5. it’s universal in media creation that people will come up with stuff but then never get to it or never finish it.

      Agreed! It’s a challenge to pursue a creative idea and make it a reality. All art comes from the same place and go through the same mental hurdles in one way or another. Well said.

    Hey Christopher cox, I have been watching your CZcams channel since elementary and I’m now about to graduate high school going into college for film and becoming an aspiring film maker, your work has truly inspired me throughout the years and I just wanted to comment saying thank you for just sharing your work on the internet. Through your work I have been inspired and have been able to do my own on my channel. I will stay tuned for your next upcoming short horror film and whatever else it is you create in the future!!!

    Tip #1 is true for anything. When I first got into animation I thought I would make 30 minute episodes on a weekly basis like a fool, and it made me wonder if I didn’t have the dedication required for animating. then I got the advice to start small and build your skill set. If I hadn’t given that advice I may have never became an animator.

    I like that these tips are applicable to so many things, like I found myself relating with them for song production as well. Especially with finishing it. There have been soo many songs I've created that halfway through making, I hated, but then ended up liking. Some, like your "Interrogation", I finished and hated, but I'd upload them anyway cause it was hard work and my friends would then tell me it's their favorite. 🙄😂 art is truly subjective, man.

    • @ChristopherCoxFilm
      @ChristopherCoxFilm  Před měsícem +1

      Haha it is! And oftentimes it’s the challenging process that turns us against a project. Viewers and “audiences” don’t experience that. And that’s what’s ultimately most important: how your art is experienced by others. Once you find what works, you can begin solving the ultimate question: “how do I communicate my idea in a way people will understand and appreciate it in the same way I do?”

    Number 5 is too real. There's so many projects sitting on my hard drives instead of my channel, from small vlogs that didn't pan out to big projects that fell apart towards the end. Finishing is a muscle that you have to train, and especially when you struggle with ADHD symptoms or something similar, you have to train that muscle with reps. It's hard as hell but I'm finally starting to see progress this year 💪

    Hello Chris i am a 15 year old in high school participating in more than one film program. In july of 2022 I found your channel while at a hotel in Carlsbad. I watched Don't Look Away just like the other 40 million people that wanted to watch a nice little short horror film. After watching that I saw that you were heavily advertising we're not safe here and then after that I looked back and I saw this gigantic catalogue of videos. I held it off for a while and then I just went back to check some of it out. Now on a separate but not completely unrelated note I was entered into a film class the year before and i hated it simply because I wasn't excited by anything i was making. I got some some inspiration from Halloween and i made a little short horror film off of that. It was terrible but that's beside the point. I watched all of your horror films and I took a lot of inspiration to keep making horror movies. I always thought I would change up my style but I kept getting attacked by countless fantastic ideas that got me super excited to be a moviemaker. The two past short films I released I am very proud of and now I'm currently in the filming process of a new one that im super excited to make. I am absolutely deadset on becoming a filmmaker now. Anyways what I wanted to say is that when someone asks me who inspired me to become a filmmaker I would say that yes Nolan and John Carpenter had a great impact but there is no one that inspired me more than you. When abi's monster released I ran home and watched it like 6 or 7 times. I learned the themes to abi's monster and we're not safe here on the piano. I watch you're old nerf videos on random days because it's so nice to see someone who obviously had all of this ambition as a kid prove to be nothing short of a fantastic filmmaker. I am very appreciative of this video and I'm unbelievably excited to see what's next. Thank you a lot Chris!

      Wow that's an incredible journey haha! It's cool to hear from a relatively new viewer such as yourself and I'm happy you were so hyped for Abi's Monster! The composer for Abi's Monster (Mario Daniel Rodriguez) is returning for The Noise Next Door and he's cooking up something FIERCE and FREAKY! 🔥

    The communications one is a big mistake that I made when I was filmmaking years ago. I would have this idea in my head and I wouldn’t tell anybody what my idea was, but I expected them to know what my idea was and if they didn’t follow what I was thinking about. I would get mad at them and that’s definitely not how to make a film.

    Something im curious about is how does someone getting out of college/uni/film school go on to start making short films, or indie films? How does one get the budget, or producers, etc. Where do you go from there, and how do you find the help to make your future narratives come to life?

    I didn’t know you hated the Interrogation. I liked it and thought it was hilarious, but like you said it’s your vision so it makes sense that their might’ve been things about it that you wish you did differently, and even though I don’t know what you hoped it would be, I and many others appreciate it for what it is.

    • @ChristopherCoxFilm
      @ChristopherCoxFilm  Před měsícem +2

      I think a lot of my distaste for that film comes from the hectic production. I had a full on meltdown in private because I couldn't handle the stress and feeling that my cast and crew didn't care about the project. In hindsight, most of that doubt likely was all in my head. But I don't blame my younger self for believing it at the time.

      Exactly and never finishing a project, just letting it go because you've lost the passion, can become a regret later on. If you CAN finish something, you should. Always worth it to bring closure to yourself and the journey you've embarked on.
