On the morning of January 29, 2022, John O'Keefe's body was found on a snowy lawn in front of the home of fellow police officer Brian Albert. The night before, he had gone to a bar with his girlfriend, Karen Read, as well as some friends and acquaintances, including Brian. Trial begins Tuesday, April 16, 2024 with jury selection.

What's the deal with Brian Higgins? He's at the bar, goes to the afterparty, goes to the police station in the super early morning on a Saturday, and then back to the house.

Emergency vehicles may not have used sirens but they did use lights. Ambulance, fire truck, and 3 police vehicles used lights. I find it very difficult to believe they didn’t wake up, especially because the dog may have been barking.

A reactive dog like Chloe should/would have heard the commotion outside. Most dogs want to alert their people of anything like this.

I've slept through alarms, sirens, and a mild earthquake - or would have had my dog not reacted to every single thing. Dogs are sensitive, and they bark. So that the Andersons - one of them an experienced cop! - did *not* wake up from the commotion going on outside their own door with a problematic dog is extremely weird and suspicious.

One thing that keeps bothering me is the Albert’s claim the sister busted in their bedroom which I find strange. I would think she would knock on the door even bang but just walk in….don’t believe it.
The other thing is would they had went to their window and looked out. To me that would be first thing I did. This is happening right outside their window. It doesn’t sound like a natural reaction.

*Warning- anatomical description of injuries for the purpose of educated discussion* Unpopular opinion- so far, based on evidence and testimony, I don't believe any of these people intentionally killed him. I don't see the behavioral red flags or evidence for it.
His wounds per the autopsy photos are so much different than anyone has described and completely changed my opinion on his death. Many have said there were cuts or goose eggs on his face but there are none, the damage to the face is consistent with a severe blow to back of the head where his laceration is, the force of which goes to the sinus area and causes the kind of swelling and bleeding he had. The eye bruising was not consistent with punches to the face, it was consistent with a brain slamming into a forehead with extreme force, to the point of excessive internal bleeding. There were no abrasions or bruising to the nose, brow, forehead, jaw or cheekbones- suggesting no assault took place. The split in the back of his head is where one would hit if they fell straight over backwards, just above the occipital ridge, straight left to right. The supposed bruising to his hands is just lividity (blood settling after death due to gravity) in a part of the hand that naturally rests on the ground when you lay it on its back, it is not an area which should make contact during offensive or defensive positioning. There are no bruises or abrasions to the knuckles. The only thing that makes no sense is the wounds to his arm. Those are not familiar to me. They are similar to some injuries caused by dogs that I've seen but it still doesn't really fit.
It's possible that she backed over him intentionally but if she'd have gone back at the distance they say she did I believe he would have moved out of the way. I would really like to see a reenactment that explains where he hit his head and how the arm was lacerated. The only thing we really know from the available evidence is that somehow, he fell with enough force to cause severe head trauma. We need to know where his head struck. We need to know how much force was necessary for that level of trauma. I would like to see evidence on whether a man of that size could simply slip and fall and create that level of force or if he would have to have been knocked over by a vehicle. And is it possible to be hit by a vehicle hard enough to make you land and whack your head with that level of force, while still leaving your torso unscathed? We need a reenactment.
I could understand if they brought her in for a charge like manslaughter but assigning any intent is a stretch, especially considering their shoddy crime scene handling and evidence collection. They miscalculated badly with this charge. This whole thing seems like an unfortunate tragedy fueled by booze and poor weather conditions and clouded by gross incompetence and toxic attitudes.

These are huge pieces of evidence that the defense won’t be able to overcome. To explain away this damning evidence, they had to resort to a defense of a mass conspiracy involving over a dozen people. And the only reason they chose this route is because of a shoddy investigation that a teenager could have handled better.

Replay Crew here. Q: I know lawyers cannot (or should not) feed their witnesses a testimony script, but isn't it normal/permissible for either side to prepare witnesses by acting as an opposing attorney? Most of these witnesses seemed to "forget" dates, times, places and even relationships (such as friends). I know Officer O"Keefe died in January 2022, but there seemed to be a lot of memory loss floating around that witness box. Q: After watching (summaries not full day sessions) 9 days of trial, I have so many questions for the prosecution regarding forensics, time line, investigation. Is the less than stellar performance by the prosecution seem unusual (it does to me, a non-lawyer)?

1:51:30 we’ll find out the answer to this question when the witnesses that left the house that morning testify. And if it turns out, they passed the area the body was found, the defense’s theory gets 100x more believable, albeit still less than 0.01 % likely. I can understand no one seeing him as they walk to their from the front door, but a couple drivers passing the snow-whitened area where a body lies within 10’ of a headlight-illuminated curb and seeing nothing will be a large quiver in the defense’s cap, especially when coupled with the plow driver’s forthcoming testimony.

Anybody who's owned a dog is going to find it very hard to believe their dog didn't flip out and awaken them with by all the police cars and such outside. Note that included Read running around yelling.
That's one of the reasons you get a dog, to alter you to strangers especially strangers doing strange things.
If there's an explanation, they sure should have gave it.
One possible explanation is it's a former police dog. They are highly trained though I'm skeptical that behavior would be trained out of them.
It is a German shepherd. That arm injury could possibly be explained by the dog grabbing someone in the way police dogs would.

The injuries on his arm looks more like a pack of vultures than dog scratches. There are no bite marks on his arm, only scratches and lacerations that could be explained by being ran over by a 3-ton SUV, not by a dog. Dogs don’t have sharp claws that could have caused those injuries. And we know what a dog bite mark looks like.

Former K9 or not, she’s a herding dog, so she’s bred to be on alert for incursions on her territory. So yeah, definitely seems like a conspicuous omission on the whole… of course, a dog found to be involved in attacking and potentially fatally wounding a man would be put down, especially on a second offense, so I’m sympathetic to their being coy about where she is now if that’s what happened.

I agree. She is guilty beyond any reasonable doubt. The Albert’s and others have been accused of a conspiracy to murder by the defense. Can you imagine if you were in their shoes? I look forward to the day Karen Read is sentenced to 30 years. 20 years for the murder and 10years for blaming her murder on good people that have done nothing wrong. The investigation and the Albert’s (and others) behavior after the murder is astounding but it doesn’t come close to implicating them in the mass conspiracy claimed by the defense.
It’s too bad she just didn’t accept blame of what she did that early morning and subsequently served 5-10years for manslaughter. Instead she gets to spend a very long time in prisons for the murder and the claims she has made afterwards.

John O'keefe deserved the best of the best investigation by LE, he was one of their own. It's a disgrace the disrespect the LE shows John O"Keefe and none of them has an ounce of remorse.
At this point whether KR hit JO with her vehicle or not, which I don't think she did, there's 100% reasonable doubt with all the contaminated evidence. IMOO, I don't think the prosecutor is THAT incompetent. I think he knows the truth and (lost a bet or pulled the short straw) and was forced to take on the case. His conscience is bothering him, he just can't convict an innocent woman with a debilitating disease.
    1) blood evidence in un-sterile cups, unsealed bag, open bag with blood 2 ft away from the back of KR's vehicle on a dirty floor.
    2) Why is everyone lying, especially LE? 25 yrs, 30 yrs, 20 yrs etc as a cop and still don't know how to preserve evidence? Do an interview? Separate potential suspects? etc etc
    3) Where's the beloved dog?
    4) Why redo the basement before selling the house, when it was already done 2-3 yrs before?
    5) Why didn't Jen run for help in the house when they found JO to get help, knowing that her BIL is trained in EMT? or even to get blankets to warm him up? He was her friend for years.
    6) How did this sloppy investigation, contaminated evidence etc get past 2 grand juries?
    7) Removal of the tail light and then put it in a towel? instead of an evidence box? No pics of the vehicle at the time they picked it up and then very dark video of processing the vehicle, that one can barely see what they are doing? Is this how the state police process evidence? The local police have all the excuses of why they didn't process the scene properly or how to interview witnesses/suspects etc etc, what excuse does the state police have?
