  • My 2022 Kawasaki KLR650 has all the mods/accessories done...for the moment!
    In this video I show the install of the Happy Trails Lower Crash Guards & Foot Pegs and then I show all the mods/accessories that have happened with my 2022 KLR650. As I mention in the video, I'm intending to wait till the bike is out of warranty before I do the doohickey and thermobob. Please feel free to drop a comment on if you feel that either of those two mods (doohickey, thermobob) are absolutely necessary..I'm curious to see what the majority thinks.

    Wish my garage looked like that, so many bikes. That is what KLR stands for, knuckle labor required. I have done the same thing so many times. I did the thermobob and got a replacement hose as well. I like seeing the temp, but I am a new rider too.

    I have the T-Rex upper crash bars, skidplate, center stand and the stock adventure lower crash bars. Had to loosen everything up to make it all fit. Great video and keep it up my friend

    I did the thermo-bob on my 2022 adventure bike. I live in a cold region and I like seeing the engine temp. I also added the tach. which is nice to see too. I'm still in warranty, but did the changeover anyway. I just ordered the doohickey. I'll wait until the weather warms up to install it. I've seen videos here on youtube of guys working on putting in the doohickey and their springs were broken. The upgrade looks substantial and since I plan on keeping the bike for a long time I don't want there to be problems. I added the HT pannier racks with the same Tusk bags that you're using. I also added the Heaterz hand warmers and heated corbin seat because I regularly ride in temps below freezing. Good choice on the D606 tires. Just be careful turning on wet pavement. I put the TKC80 on my front and Mitas E-07 on the rear. The stock tires are garbage. I run the D606s on my Husqvarna TR650 Terra. Thanks for the video.

    I’m with you on the doohicky and thermo-bob, wait until your 2022 KLR is out of the warranty period before deciding to modify your engine with those contraptions. I have not found anyone that can document a failure or performance issue with their 2022 KLR that in retrospect would have been prevented with a doohicky or thermo-bob.

    Congrats on your bike. I own a 2016, they are all so similar really. In my opinion only...., the thermobob craze was a reaction to the 2008, 2009 models burning oil. The premise is that we need to keep the cylinder bore round. Thousands of klr's attained 100,000 km milestones without the Thermobob. Kawasaki changed the piston and piston ring design in 2008. That was the oil burn problem. Avoid buying a 2008, 2009 bike on the used market. On the doohickee issue.... there are two fronts. Don't do anything and your bike will probably be ok. History supports this with so many bikes attaining high mileage with no maintenance. Bullet proof motor. It show that the motor can operate with a problematic stretched or broken tension spring. No worries just a noisy motor. The OCD crowd (ME) want to know that the motor is working as designed and the counterbalance chain is correctly tensioned. The Eagle Mike torsion kit is brilliant. If you have the mechanical ability to do the mod, you will sleep well at night.

    im sure someone has pointed this out but the thermobob is more important in colder, milder climate. i'd do it. all modern vehicles have some sort of coolant bypass - except the archaic KLR. its only got 1 piston so best to keep it in shape.
    On the doohickey - probably not necessary unless you plan on keeping the bike for 7000+ miles. most people just sell/trade-in their KLR long before then though.

  • @Scupper7
    @Scupper7 Před měsícem

    The thermo bob is not designed to reduce engine temperature. This is one of the biggest misconceptions I've seen with the mod. It is designed to increase engine temps for cold start up. The bikes operating temperature and start up temp is much to cold which can cause engine damage like the cylinder losing its roundness because it is to cold. 👍🏻

  • @ozarkhillbilly1431
    @ozarkhillbilly1431 Před rokem +1

    From what I heard,the problem was keeping engine temps up in cooler weather was the reason for thermobob

  • @holisticaustralia

    Heya D rock, I enjoy your channel, I have been thinking about the thermo bob also.. from what I can gather it is about dumping cold water into the cooling system and putting the cylinder bore out of round. I live in a sub tropical climate so I assume the water/coolant will never be that cold. In saying that my interpritation may be wrong and I like you will install the thermo bob when warranty runs out to be on the safe side. Some people may say that is too late however I am hoping it wont be in a temperate climate like mine. I have watched installs and other dialogue about the product and certainly believe it has its merits and is a good insurance policy and hey just handy to be able to keep an eye on your temps in real time. Much love and respect from Australia..

      Appreciate you taking the time to watch! I agree as well, keeping an eye on the temps is a good thing and I intend to install a thermo bob down the road. Cheers!

    The DooDoo and the Thremoscam were started by one old man who got a bunch of crazy people to spread rumors to buy his trinkets....the Gen 3 per the Kawasaki engineers stated only the first gen had an issue because it was a 2 piece design also in the 3rd gen they fixed the real issue and put in a MUCH stronger cam chain guide,

    Went back and watched this again. How did you attach the tusk tank side bags. Recently ordered them and looking at the design the original tank straps will not work. Did you improvise something to attach to the bars. Really like that set up and looking for more storage on the KLR. I also have the happy trails upper bars so looking to mount the same way.

    • @precipiceofgrind
      @precipiceofgrind  Před měsícem

      I have the tank bags strapped to the upper crash bars with one inch tubular webbing, same stuff I use to descend canyons. Yeah, they won't work as is on the KLR, too wide. T

    Question.... I ordered the upper and lower guards from HTP 2 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything from them. Should I be concerned or is this usually how they work?

    • @precipiceofgrind
      @precipiceofgrind  Před rokem +1

      I placed a large order with HT: skid plate, lower/upper crash guard, center stand. It took HT six months to fully complete the order. They offered to refund some of my money at one point but I just waited it out. My order got fulfilled intermittently from April 22 to Sept 22, they just couldn't keep up with demand and I think something happened with their powder coat not to mention the c19 debacle screwed the pooch on all manufacturing. They may still be trying to catch up. Their products are top notch so I didn't mind waiting.

  • @forwardomni1355

    • @precipiceofgrind
      @precipiceofgrind  Před rokem

      If you mean the HT gear, it took six months to fulfill the order. They were cool, offered to refund halfway through but I wasn't in a hurry so I just waited it out. They make awesome, solid gear. They were having issues with powder coat iirc.

    Kawasaki has been kicking 650s out since the 80s. If it needed a new doohickey or Bob, it would have it.
