RDJ should be a hero and example to every recovering alcoholic/addict. Amazing how much he’s turned his life around
Him and Steve-o :)
@@RagdollRalph and now Eddie Furlong joined the list.
"Sometimes the suit makes the man." Subtle nod to Iron Man's character arc slipped into casual conversation. RDJ is a legend.
“The clothes make the man” is an approximation of an old Latin saying. It’s been said throughout history. It’s a common saying.
@@Hack_The_Planet_ Which is why the choice to use the word "suit" is important. It's both.
@@Hack_The_Planet_exactly. There is multiple layers to it
It's amazing hearing them talk about CGI and how little they tried to use compared to modern MCU flicks.
That phrase is all 5 seasons of mad men
It's amazing to think that Dave's audience that night had no idea what was coming with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 😎
It was gonna STINK
*"Dave's audience"? LOL! The whole world!*
yeah fr like people weren’t expecting what was to come 🔥🔥
No one did...
@@Losrandirlol ok
“Doesn’t stink”…quite an understatement.
The first Iron Man was a revelation…I remember walking out of the theater with my friends feeling energized, like it was the start of something big.
We had also seen Indy and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull earlier in the day…talk about a contrast. Old and tired vs something exciting and sharp.
@@patreekotime4578
Yeahhh I know, but it was a helluva run.
@@patreekotime4578
Okay, well you clearly weren't the target audience then. Most people who were fans from 2008-2019 were very happy with the vast majority of MCU films released during that period.
@@keefriff99 Yeah, you nailed it on this. I wasn't much of a comics superhero fan, but Ironman was a surprisingly good film. It's easy to tell that was due to RDJr's input on the script and the character, though I still get a kick out of seeing him giving himself credit for that here.
I saw the Crystal Skull back then, clearly the wrong choice.
yeah fr like iron man was one of the greatest superhero movies ever made 🔥
this dude just finished one of the most historical gig in film industry history. Iron Man was a game changer.
And I believe he was filming tropic thunder too that’s why he has short hair.
Literally THE game changer for Hollywood the 21st century.
7:21 "Gwenyth Paltrow is such a nice, regular human being." That didn't exactly age well.
How not?
Nope. It sure didn't.
@@Marcus_1001 again how not?
@@jeffcunningham0389look up Goop! She believes some strange things
Haha wow. It's uncanny how poorly that aged LOL
Oh, to return to 2008 and see Iron Man for the first time. There’s been lots of great stuff since then, and some not so great, but what a flick that was: the early suit-up scenes & the testing, the “my turn” when he emerges from the cave, the “he’s all yours” & the jet sequence, and even the “proof that Tony Stark has a heart” part. All fabulous. I know, I know, preaching to the choir and all that, but wow. It’s fun to reminisce and remember how much promise there was then, long before “I love you 3000” was even a twinkle in his eye.
Disney really flushed Marvel down the toilet after Endgame. Everyone in that company needs to be fired.
as a kid it made me feel like anything was possible...... man id day dream about flying in a suit of armor
@@bassage13lol
@@bassage13you're saying that as if they only made bangers before that one
@@johnwerner69 dude if you gave me a choice to go back in time to where people really thought that Thor was the worst marvel movie, I’d take that every time.
The difference between then and now is that they at least “tried” to make a good movie and just didn’t executed it flawlessly.
Now all we get is a convoluted mess that hardly even has real “characters” that have “flaws” and overcome them and stuff.
"If hes 14 and this delights him, we got problems"😂😂😂 love rdj god bless em lol
I remember staying up late at night to catch this interview bc I wanted to know more abt the film, I had no internet back then, cool to see it again.
It's weird to think about this now but Iron Man was Marvel B list. He wasn't as popular as Spider-Man, the X-Men, Captain America, the Hulk, and the Fantastic Four. Marvel had his rights because the other studios that had bought up the rights in the 90s were more interested in making Ghost Rider, Punisher, and Daredevil movies.
Not even B list... Iron Man was C list. Bottom shelf comic. Never even got his own video game. Only one with his name in the title pre movie he had to share the title with XO-Manowar... which only the most obsessive comic shop trolls would know about.
@@DanJackson1977 I wouldn't say C list. Iron Man was continually published as a lead in a title from the early 1960s. Only a few Marvel characters had such a long run. Ghost Rider, Punisher, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Blade didn't.
@@davidlasdon457if they couldn’t even license out Iron Man or Avengers, I’d call that C list. Doesn’t mean he wasn’t published, but he was definitely on the sidelines. When they licensed out all these characters in the 90s, Avengers and the characters attached weren’t seen as hip, they were seen as tired and old. I grew up in the comic shops in the 90s and X-Men and Spider-Man was of course A-Tier. Avengers were seen as ‘for old people’ or too basic and normal (I think only Thor was the stand-out getting some good writing here and there) and no one really cared about some tired old alcoholic Tony Stark. All those titles you mentioned were borderline B-Tier just barely held up by awesome artists.
@@button9you implying iron man never had good writing is foolish.
Robert was always so fast , so quippy he’s always been iron man
Best hero intro, best character death in a movie in a long time, and a lot of bright spots between them. Not a bad gig
2008... when CGI was an acronym that a host would have to explain and Gwyneth Paltrow is described as a "regular human being" 😂
at 7:50 he spoils the whole MUC , lol
Underrated comment lol
LOL he did!
Oh god your gonna make me MUC
The MCU we miss, not whatever it is we have today.

Long overdue since 2009

so funny how they joke and jab at the fact that Favreau shouldn't try to hide in the back of scenes and just direct yet he eventually becomes a main cast member of the mcu
He truly had no idea this movie was about to make him the lead of the biggest most successful movie franchise in film history
"Let's make a movie that doesn't stink for a change".
Well, that irony aged well for Disney Marvel...
I didn't say it did @@patreekotime4578
It's fine, Robert can come back and say it again.
Regression is a hell of a thing.
They had a phenomenal 10 year run for the MCU. At this point you can just ignore everything that happened after Endgame.
Gwyneth Paltrow and normal are not two words that go together nowadays! 😄
@Nawchos Her candles are DEFINITELY not normal.
That's 3 words
By nowadays, you mean 10-15 years ago.
What is it with her ? I've seen like 10 comments like this
Quite a difference between this and his first appearance about twenty years earlier.
The first Ironmsn was one of my favourites, I loved watching how Tony developed the suit.
The one that started it all!
I misread the title and thought this was gonna be RDJ saying that the ironman suit has air conditioning so he doesn't get horrible BO and trap all his farts in there.
I think I have that exact Iron Man figure… Thank you for all the years you dedicated to this role RDJ!
crazy to see the audience not knowing RDJ's personality lol. Now he'd sneeze and everyone giggles
RDJ low key eviscerating whoever wrote the original Iron Man script 😆
It’s always nice 😊 to see reruns
"Who actually comes to mind when you see that?"
Frankenstein with a goatee.
The movie was filmed on stage where Howard hue’s built the spruce goose , it’s amazing that Tony stark was inspired by Howard Hues and they did the film on his stage . That’s amazing
I wonder if he did this interview before or after playing his best role ever in Tropic Thunder. Well deserved Oscar nomination playing a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude. And well deserved Oscar win for Oppenheimer!
Was not expecting Robert to flashbang on entry. Didn’t know he was real like that.
Notice his short hair, he was in the middle of filming tropic thunder
I hope this "Iron Man" movie works out for RDJ.
Wow. I really hope the movie does well…
🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭
I heard they are connecting it with the incredible hulk and planning a some sort of connected universe
Don't know whats that all about
@@siddharthiyer2177 Oh, wow. Really looking forward to that!!
@@siddharthiyer2177no way! That could never happen
@@siddharthiyer2177 Ha! Yeah right, that'll fail miserably!
Tony doing dolls is great
"Pepper, we have to save the planet."
"Tony, you'll die!"
RDJ's voices are amazing.
Would be great to go back and see it for the first time again.
I'd love to see Marvel do a limited re-release for the 20th anniversary. I missed seeing it in a theater.
Maybe he said it about a lot of movies but Dave saying the film was going to be big was a good call and also an understatement
He's alive.
And is likely going to be an Oscar winner in a few days.
UPDATE: He is NOW an Oscar winner.
I thought this was a new video, didn't know this was the coming of the one movie that inspired me a lot back in the day.
Dave tried to do Jon Favreau dirty lol
A born superstar.❤🎉
Tobey maguires Spider-Man started it all years before although I’m a Iron Man fan but facts is facts it all depends what year you were born and how young you are when you got into superheroes
umm.. Superman started it all for me. I'm sure the generation after me saw Batman as the first real superhero movie. Now kids are spoiled with superhero projects, but in my day it was mostly Saturday Morning cartoons and cheesy live action tv shows.
X-Men 2000 for Marvel
Blade 1998
Batman 1989
Spiderman started it all…after Superman, Batman, Blade and X men
One of the great movie moments in my lifetime was watching that movie for the first time with my friends in 2008 at 12 years old - wow he was the coolest and most complex superhero ever - and really started the Marvel dynasty~~!
THANKS
I was very ready for that scene...
I love watching people who don’t know they’re just about to blow up like nothing else. This dude is a few days from becoming the biggest actor of his generation. So cool.
"Jon Favorou is not a big fan of CGI" LOL
6:29 looks like Ken Watanabe
The first Iron Man is still one of the best MCU films in the bunch. I remember seeing it in theaters and I along with everybody in the theater had such a great time. It’s a case of the right cast in the right film at the right time. It’s not like RDJ wasn’t a star, the guy had been great in everything he’d done up to that point, but after Iron Man, it’s like the world finally realized it, and now in 2024 the academy finally realized it as well.
Wait! What was the clip? This movie sounds interesting
Lol, Jon Favreau not liking CGI in 2008 to making completely CGI movies in 2024. How the times have changed.
2016/2019
First Iron Man still holds up, it looks even better than todays MCU films
Not liking it means using it minimally and smartly, which is still a practice in The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.
There are a good amount of full CGI shots in the original Iron Man film, like the scene taking out the military tank, and the suit up sequences, etc. His films before Iron Man like Zathura use CGI.
Times have not changed.
@@YodatheHobbitbut also The Lion King and Jungle Book, which are both almost entirely CG
@@localyocal498don’t you know those are LiVe AcTiOn???
Explain to the folks at home what CGI is
This is such a degenerate interview I love it
They're making an Iron Man movie? NOBODY asked for this! He's like a D-list superhero! I smell a FLOP! I predict this comic book movie fad will die out before 2009, people have been feeling superhero fatigue since X-Men: The Last Stand and Superman Returns. Give it a rest Hollywood!!!!!!
He's no Ms Marvel, that's for sure!
The difference of quality writing can make. Iron-Man was a revelation and is still viewed as a good movie today.
It's not super hero fatigue, it's bad story telling and political messaging fatigue.
Glorious comment.
It's 2008 again already!?!?!? Does this mean I'm in my mid-40s again?
Yeah it was a real flop lol
Lol he’s right, the stock market floor would make an excellent old fashioned club 🤣
Sixteen. Sixteen years ago. I want a time stone.
Now I can't help but think of that marvel/oscar reddit/pulitzer joke whenever I see Marvel actors in interviews.
😂 The comment about Gwyneth Paltrow being a regular human being didn't age well
he’s literally tony stank irl
Action figures face looks like Jimmy Fallon
The movie did not even need to be promoted, too bad now the MCU is run by people who don't even have a clue about the MCU, and even change the source material that gave it's historical following. The audacity to think your better than the story to change it without even knowing or liking it in the first place... Ah good days were better. Excelsior.
It absolutely needed to be promoted, are you kidding me? Most people probably only knew of Ironman (and the Avengers in general) from kids' lunchboxes and the occasional Halloween costume. Like historically the Avengers were always kind of a B-rated superhero team that fell behind the likes of the X-men or Justice League. Crazy how it all got flipped around.
MCU has been run by the same guy since day one but glad to have confirmation you're talking out of your ass !
“Gwyneth Paltrow Seems like a regular human being” is such a bizarre, clearly false statement
What a cutie. She was nervous af
Indeed
Bad year to open the Stock Exchange.
5:23 Letterman spoiled the ending to the the film and no one blinked an eye. Now media can't even see the movies early.
I don’t care what anyone says, Dave and Jay are both the greatest late night hosts of all time. I can watch Dave all over and it still feels like the first time. I miss this type of late night tv before bed.
The toy kind of looked like Carl Urban
I'm picturing him with dreads lol!
Well was a black man once upon a time 😊
We're witnessing Tony Spark....
“He’s not a big fan of cgi” lol
CGI - having to explain what that is shows how old this interview is 😆
And the rest is history.
If RDJ only knew where this would take him!! To other worlds and back again.
I miss MHeU. Wish I could experience all of it for the first time again
Certain advantages lol
We need to go back to movies like Jurassic Park, other Spielberg Esque movies that incorporated CGI when necessary, and supplemented with incredible practical effects… loved Iron Man😊
I remember having that 1 foot tall Iron Man figure as a kid, and I remember my parents got it for me for $15 or $20. Toys of that caliber are $40+ these days...
Got me excited. I thought Mr. Stark was coming back to the MCU.
That was the best first step ever for a movie series. Sometimes you have to run before you can walk. RDJ, Favreau and their approach, wit, and practical effects, they just fly!
Too bad disney just turned all that soul in a pile of sheets.
I bet this movie will flop 😂😂
5:38 "He's not a big fan of CGI". Makes The Jungle Book and The Lion King live action a couple of years later
It's crazy that Tom Cruise turned down the role. It would be so weird seeing him
Nah, some of knew Ironman was gonna slap. But nobody knew they would stretch the story out the way they did. Leading up to Infinity War.
Why are they bring back to the premiere of iron man, they should be focusing bring RDJ back in avengers: secret wars
There's a house near where I live in Twickenham that sold for £50m about 10 years ago
Rumour is he owns it
Iron man, hands down, the most "Humane" Marvel movie and in my opinion the best.
Congratulations on the Oscar
A real life less than zero to the centerpiece of the MCU to an Oscar. He was even a likeable douche in Weird Science. The guy is self assured and praises other. Hopefully we get more great projects from him
Am I the only one who thought there's another iron man movie coming out ??
Need RDJ to ball up the scripts again
This Robert guy is fine but that Iron Man thing is clearly just a thing of the moment. I'm sure everyone will forget in a year.
The thing is that movie was really good and everyone liked it at the time
So the only way it could've fallen off is if the sequel would've completely been bad (it wasn't good) but they kept momentum enough to get to The Avengers just based on charismatic acting
Like looking back...were these movies really even good or just fun?
Did he spoil the ending?
History in the making, and no one knew it at the time.
I’m not certain _“10 hours ago”_ or _“new”_ mean what you think they do…
I don't think RDJ knew what would happen.
He’s not the hero type, clearly.
Downey should replace Figie
We need RDJ to come back out today and do the same thing, again, to MCU.
