Irish Cob Ian is out in the terrain in Porvoo, Finland. Music downloaded from the web: Free Irish Music Downloads last.fm. Music: "Ditch" by Irish Stew of Sindidun www.last.fm/music/Irish+Stew+o...
He's calm, but sometimes he got scared too. Once I found myself in a ditch full of water! :) And the mother in our family once fell of after Ian got scared of sudden noise.
Gorgeous. I've wanted an Irish Cob since I was a little girl. And Finland is amazing, been on holiday there quite a few times. This video puts 2 things I love together, it makes me smile. Thanks for sharing. :-)
So, my friend who rides and helps bring up race horses says that cobs have virtually no energy. When he rode mine he could barely hold on as se took off with him and started bucking and rearing while going uphill. I love her.
Thank u for the answer. Netherlands is a nice country. Been there a couple of times. Nice people. Have been rooting for the dutch national team in football since Marco van Basten played in the 80s! :)
Sounds really nice! I'm myself also a newbie when it comes to horses, the girls in the family now better, but I guess I will have rest of my life learning! :)
BezzAnd Mizz I was going to give you a hint to check out a slow motion video of Ian, but I'm afraid you will forget to breath again, and I don't want to have your life on my conscience, so I better not! :) (ok, here it is: Irish cob horse galloping in super slow motion - Ian the horse filmed with GoPro Hero3 camera)
joo..(switch to english) we use them on carts and for horseback riding using ropehalfters and no bits, and no irons on the hoofes.. theyre so gentle they dont need any force to do what we ask them. Perfect.. and i am a bloody beginner with horses too.. just a few years.
Hello! Thanks for asking. Yes you can use parts of the video as long as you credit the video (perhaps also link to the original video?). Have no rights to the audio so cannot give you any permission on that part ;).
Wonderful horses! For our family Ian is just perfect while the whole family can ride with him (parents + girls 10 and 8 year old). I think Ian is a little bit bigger than average Cobs, he's height is 157 cm. I think the cobs are very versatile and by nature very calm and friendly. I defenitely think your mother should get you a Cob! ;)
Irish cobs are naturally individuals as all other horses. Usually the Irish cobs are calm and brave and at least our is not lazy and can run fast enough for our family. They are perfect as "family horses". Probably a lot of cobs like to jump and our horse is even quite good jumper but of course they are heavy horses and cannot be compared to other breeds. Best thing is of course to find a nice one for sale and try it out! ;)
Thx for the nice words! We didn't go for long distances, maybe the longest was around 10 kilometres, but the reason was not that Ian couldn't have gone longer distances, we never had an opportunity to test longer distances and actually never even thought about that! So unfortunately I cannot answer your question.
Thanks! I wonder where your video response disappeared? We have a lot of unedited videos. Now just need the time to edit and put them on the web. But there will be more. I promise you that! :)
Sorry for late reply, haven't been logged in for a while. We haven't had any problems with the hair on the legs. The hair shouldn't cause hoof diseases, but you might have this small insects, don't remember what they are called. I'm pretty sure there's more info on this on the net you can use to proof your mother Irish Cobs are safe! ;)
Do you mind if I use this in a video along with other clips from other people I will put your watermark on it and give you all credit for the clips!?:D He's gorgeous by the way!:3
I think it's class 😂, and very funny. I thought it was an Irish song ( because I live in Ireland ) until I heard the accent. Where did you find that song ? it's so cool.x.
I was trying to find some free Irish music that would fit the video. Afterwards I found out that it wasn't that free, that's the reason for the ads. I found the music on a webpage called last.fm. There's a link to the song. (Not sure if it's working anymore though :). You live in Ireland! Sounds great! Having had 3 Irish horses, I think we will some day go to Irealand and see the lovely horses live.
I used to ride a welsh cob and found cantering etc really easy(smooth ride).. Just got a gypsy cob and tbh I struggle as the canter is really REALLY bouncy.. I always feel unstable.. any tips? Thanks x
sorry for late reply! I guess the canter is really depending on the individual horse more than if it's a cob or not. We have been lucky with our cobs, no bouncy canters, and to be honest, I'm the worst rider of the family (not the one on the video), I think nobody should take advice from me! LOL
Thanks! If you really want to have a horse I am sure you will have one one day! And it seems you "just" have to wait for a few years which sounds great! Just prepare yourself, read about owning a horse, training and so on and the few years will go quickly!
In a perfect world we would do that also. We live in a city and need to have someone else take care of the horse. Would we have an own farm or something, then we would definitely ride more bareback than we now do.
The video is from up north Europe, in Finland. Unfortunately Ian died a couple of years ago. :( You'll get your cob from Ireland next month! Great news! I hope you will have a fantastic time with your cob!
Hi there, just came across your videos, i absolutely love them...I have a cob (Teddy), he is 4 and we love him, be interested to follow you as any work and progress with Teddy would be great, can i ask, is Ian barefoot?..teddy is and doing well on it xx regards Rosalyn
Thank you for your nice words about our videos. Ian is or I should say, wasn't barefoot, unfortunately he died some months ago. We have another cob Pepe (3 years old) and a Connemara pony Silver that the videos mostly will be about in the future. We also have a lot of Ian videos we haven't yet released. I'm happy to hear that you have a lovely cob. Would be nice to see videos/photos of Teddy.
I did realise shortly after I posted and truly felt awful X. ..but yes Ian looked a fantastic cob and I'm sure your other pony is too..yes if I can manage to upload pictures I will..I'm fairly new to owning horses but have been bringing teddy on as well as we can..He shows a huge amount of potential so just wondered how I can progress him further xx...Thank you for your reply
Ian was our first horse and we cannot take any honor of how good Ian was, that's totally the honor of the previous owner. We were just fortunate to have him the last years of his life. Our other cob Pepe on the other hand we will be responsible for his training, but we are too novice to do anything in practice and use other experienced trainers. So unfortunately I cannot give you other advice, except one, keep it fun for the horse! We have had pauses when Pepe wasn't that keen jumping. (We have only had him jumping freely, not with a rider yet).
Gorgeous horse! I recently got a Belgian draft, riding him is so different than riding a 14h QH. Do they naturally sweat easily lol?? I will take him for a ride, and he will start sweating about not even 10mins in at a walk, and it doesnt even get up to 60° yet! He sweats but he can not stay still for anything!! Its surprising since he is such a big horse, he just wants to run lol, nothing dire since I've rode for years I can handle it, but if I ask him to stand in one place he will start moving his feet as if he wants to work. I'd say he was an amish horse at once, he is very whip shy! First figured that out when I tried to introduce him to a flag, sucker can jump too lol. Learned that the hard way trying to walk him over a ditch, man he went up in the air lol!
LOL! Never that fun to find out the horse can jump, when you least think it! I was once riding with Ian, quite fast on a forrest road when there was a little puddle of water and Ian made a really large jump! Not nice if your horse is shy of whip, but maybe he will get use to seeing them when having a good caring owner? Allthough it's not that easy I think to learn a horse not to be afraid of something that hurt/scared the horse earlier. Ian was not afraid of anything except carriages/having somthing behind him (like a skiier) and wasn't that fond of men. So something probably happend at his earliest life, but we didn't know his history, but tried not to do something he didn't like! I wish you a very good time with your horsde! Many happy moments!
Okay a big question. I love these horses and would like to buy one in years to come. Obviously, you ride him. But I visited a farm (in my country) where they have few Irish cobs and they told me, that they are not good riding horses. That they are stubborn and spooky. So they use them only with carts. Now not that I trust them much :D, but I didn't get to meet any other owner of Irish cob. So could you please tell how hard they are or are not to ride? Or anyone? Thanks
First of all, sorry for the delay in our answer, we have been on vacation. Second of all, we have only close experience of four cobs: 1. Ian that was great, 2. Irish horses: Pepe, Silver and Ian Thank you for your answer! I don't intend to get into any horse riding events (I did mine part on that already). But I will be relocating into mountains and light weighted horses have often difficulties with that terrain. My friend lives there and she told me, that legs of her horses are suffering a lot. Plus I really want just a nice horse, that can handle outside walks and a bit of cross country. And because of terrain, I want a sturdier horse. And my niece :3 I'm really just in a phase when I'm gathering all the info I can get. And in the horizon of two years, I'd love to buy a horse. Plus info from people who have personal experience and are not trying to sell me anything are much more helpful. So thank you a lot!!! Your answer was appreciated :3
We have never regret buying cobs (just ask the mother of the family). Pepe is going to be used in horse assisted therapy, with his patience, appearance and calmness I'm sure it's going to be great! Good luck with your plans! Relocating into mountains sounds beautiful! All the best for you in the future!
Dream horse :)

So, my friend who rides and helps bring up race horses says that cobs have virtually no energy. When he rode mine he could barely hold on as se took off with him and started bucking and rearing while going uphill. I love her.

The video is from up north Europe, in Finland. Unfortunately Ian died a couple of years ago. :( You'll get your cob from Ireland next month! Great news! I hope you will have a fantastic time with your cob!
OH WOW :O
Thanks Minca!

I wish you a very good time with your horsde! Many happy moments!

We have the same type of horse
Okay a big question. I love these horses and would like to buy one in years to come. Obviously, you ride him. But I visited a farm (in my country) where they have few Irish cobs and they told me, that they are not good riding horses. That they are stubborn and spooky. So they use them only with carts. First of all, sorry for the delay in our answer, we have been on vacation.
Second of all, we have only close experience of four cobs:
1. Ian that was great,
2. Pepe our 4 year old cob that seems to become very great, he's so calm and smart and we have had no problems with the riding with him and there have been people of all ages on his back already,
3. Another horse at our stable, this cob is like five years old and used in the riding school. Every day everything from small children to adults ride on her without any problems. She's also used in small scale jumping,
4. The fourth is the foal of the horse at the riding school and she's so young yet to say anything about her.
So our experience is that there have been no problems what so ever with cobs and riding. Instead, while Pepe and the horse at the riding school has also been used with carts, I say you have more possibilities with a cob! Of course if your target is to become a top level rider in show jumping or dressage, then at some point the build of the horse will be a disadvantage and I think some dressage judges think that cobs shouldn't do dressage and they might give less points. So if you don't want to represent your country in the Olympics, I say go for it! :)
(Try one out that has been used for riding, that's the best way to know. Horses are of course always individuals, so you cannot say are cobs or kwpns or whatever good/bad for something)
And my niece :3
I'm really just in a phase when I'm gathering all the info I can get.
I really want one as well , they are just so beautiful and majestic , my experience riding a cub was brilliant no problems tbh
Hinata Kaede I hope you get one cob one day!
