    Swedish television SVT aired this game (first game they aired of WTTC -21) and Waldner was the expert commentator. He was very moved by this long awaited gold medal.

    Great to see all lovely comments here, from all around the world. I believe the asian people miss the days of amazing european players. Specially China, and all matches against Waldner. It’s allways amazing to see the great matches between countries all around the world. As a Sweden myself I am happy that we are back, as a kid I loved watching Jörgen, Jan-Ove and more play - it was such a long time ago.

    For me, Karlsson is the player of the tournament. Throughout this event, he consistently played at his personal best. They beat both Korean pairs and both Chinese pairs. Earned every bit of the championship!

      Fun fact, Falck was Mattias Karlsson until he changed his name. People often though they are brothers (which they are not)

    I am very happy to see as many different countries as possible going to the final game of table tennis. Congratulations to Sweden for the gold medal and also to South Korea which did their best to reach this final !!

    It's refreshing to see this quite open final. The Swedes are the best team that showed up in Houston. K. Karlsson capitalizes on any hesitation against Falck's pips by crushing the forehand loops. I think China missed Xu Xin and Ma Long here, but China are right to play the long game to rebuild the team around Fan and the younger players. Wouldn't be surprised if China wins in two years.

      Fan will win everything in the next few years, and with some experience, Wang Chuqin will be unbeatable as well. I don't even know which nonchinese players have a chance against him.

    Congrats Sweden! Defeating 2 chinese teams in route to the title. Karlsson swings for the fences. I think the Swedes are back. World mens singles finals last 2 championships. Younger taller crew.

      don't forget the chinese play single doubles and mixte double in general and are more tired than the others who don't

    I thought Mattias was a physically strong player, but it seems like he is a very smart, tactical player.
    Didn't know Karlsson was this good. If they continue to play like this together, they can achieve more in the future.

      Actually I think the team tactics they use have changed recently. Karlsson used to be The Architect and Falck was The Killer. During these championships, it feels like they swapped roles. It worked pretty well ;)

    I didn't know Swedish can play short balls this good, normally europeans known for long run rallys. They were very patient and waiting for the timing to attack. Congrates!

      Dima had an Injury. Ma long and xu xin pulled out of tournament before it started.

      DIMA suffered leg injury during training. As for MALong, XuXin and LiuShiWen; the Chinese (experience) players and their coaches had a discussion about building a whole new generation players (with FZD and ShaSha leading the squad). 2024 Olympic is upon us. They are building new young players. Other powerhouses (Japan / especially Germany / Singapore) should do the same too. They cannot relied on old players any longer.
