    I love adding the bone shanks because it imparts a really rich flavor to dishes. And yes, having the meal the next day is always the best! My mom used to always say that waiting til the next day allows the ingredients to “marry” and the flavors all become “one”🤗

    Our family's favorite cold weather cabbage dish is also very simple, also better the second day, and would have been perfect for tonight's supper. Our dish is layers of cabbage, potatoes,and sliced kielbasa, in equal weight measures depending on how much you wish to serve or have in leftovers. I start with a couple pinches salt only, then season to taste a few minutes before serving. Each batch of any sausage will vary slightly in spice strength, so I find I prefer to adjust at the end. And enough water for the steam to start as you have done here. I will be trying your dish later this week. One pot meals are my absolute favorite.
    It is an absolute out of the norm night here in Kansas U.S.A. It is snowing. Our first snow does not usually come until mid December, rarely before late November. I only wish it had come this afternoon so I cold watch it fall.

    I tried this and I really liked it. In fact, over the last 3 weeks, I have had it about 6 times. It's now on my list of everyday meals to cook as it's so very simple to make and freezes very well. Goes very well with a traditional english dish - yorkshire puddings.

    I'm not a fan of lamb, but I love cabbage. I make corned beef and cabbage, my husband and my grandson love it as much as Arne loves Farikal. I think I will cut the meat smaller and chop the cabbage like you've done here to help it cook more. I always have to buy at least 2 or 3 pieces of corned beef because it really shrinks when you cook it, but it takes much longer to cook and I can never time it right so dinner is always very late when I make it. Thank you for the information.

    Arlene, Carlos,
    I can hardly wait to taste this dish! It’s on the hob right now, just a few minutes since I followed along with you on this video for the procedure. OMG, this recipe wins the ‘easiest ever’ award in my books. My husband and I absolutely love lamb. What an interesting combination with cabbage, which we also love, and no searing required ...... that caught my eye. And well anyone who loves pepper will be in heaven. It took less than 15 minutes to prep. I’ll let you know how it turns out. Thanks for sharing this! Pat Lawson, Lynden, Ontario.

    • @PatlLawson
      @PatlLawson Před 5 lety +1

      Well I’m back! I’m making it again tonight, it’s on the heat now, and I can hardly wait. It was soooo good last time! The cabbage here in Ontario is so sweet at this time of year. I feel lucky to have your great recipe and a nearby local farmer of amazing winter vegetables. The lamb is more of a challenge being very expensive here. I wait for a sale. But good food is worth paying for, right? I must apologize, I misspelled your name in my earlier post Arne, so sorry! I’m knitting your Pairfect socks now, until dinner is ready. Wish you were here!

    Arne & Carlos I soooo love these videos!!!! I was hoping for knitting but was truly surprised & pleasantly surprised by how awesome you both are and way talented at all that you both are. You inspire me to be happy with all that I love to do which let me tell you, you both have taught me how to knit really better than I had thought that I could.
    My father taught me & my sister when we were young so I got to where I would crochet because it came easier than knitting to me. When I watched the first video of your tiny doll sweaters I bought your book with the dolls “Knit & Crochet Garden”....well then I became excited about every week and watch all your videos.
    Now you are cooking with cabbage and I am so happy because I need to eat better & cook better foods for myself and my hubby... lol
    Anyhow I have to tell you that you have brightened my life up!!! I am fighting a bone infection in my foot and trying to do something to get myself on track and do things God would be happy with... that sounds dumb. But you keep me looking forward- the both of you guys are truly beautiful people who care about what you’re sharing with us in the world.. I ask you to keep up the wonderful videos and stay blessed dear men. You make my day each day since I feel like I have friends over there and can reach out and tell you that you have my heart..... love you guys thanks for everything.. thanks so much for inspiration for what is important in life. You’re my blessing. Also the main thing I’m making this wonderful recipe for next week, I’ll tell you how mine turns out. Thanks so much again for all you do

    I'm going to have to source some local lamb and cabbage from the farmers market. I've been craving this dish for some time now. It was one of my favourites growing up. We used to be able to get flatbread to eat with it, but sadly the importer said he can't get it at a reasonable price anymore. We live in Canada. The apple cider is an excellent idea. Growing up, the adults had cold beer and the children had cold milk😂😋

    @kroselynn Před 5 lety +2

    Awesome Guys! I just did something similar tonight as well. Here in Michigan we have whats called “Boiled Dinner” -although I don’t know how popular it is, but we take cabbage, potatoes, carrots, onions, cauliflower (sometimes broccoli) and green beans, green peppers (bell peppers) and sometimes add something like a ham steak, or a pork shoulder roast, or a hunk of beef leftover, or a hunk of meat that needs to be used from the freezer, but not always meat-sometimes just the veggies, and just let it all boil til everything is done.
    We add garlic, fresh ground pepper, pink or grey salt, and sometimes a little Adobo seasoning if the garlic is old has lost its kick.
    I avoid ham, because I don’t like it, but a pork or beef roast works well. Our family was never big on lamb, but its not quite as common here I guess.
    I wish I could have been there just to smell the aroma!
    Loved this video guys, thanks!

    I had to laugh so hard when I saw Arnie’s eye roll. My Tim makes me do the same thing at times. I’m sorry that I can’t help it but I do it with, like you say Carlos, loooove. Cheers to you both. And thank you for cooking for us.
