Man a 65 beetle brings back memories. WOW😊😊😊
Amazing, beautiful work rustoration - this is the feature. 👍
Weld as bad chad showes you on his site. Space out, then start filling in, do 4 overlapping previous spot, and so on. Chad makes it look so easy. 😊🎉
I've been a subscriber to your channel pretty much from the beginning and I'm not one to leave comments very often but here I just have to. You have come a long long way and I have truly enjoyed watching your progress. I build models, cars mostly and an airplane now and then. I get the "relaxing and rewarding" aspect totally. I frequently remind my wife that it's therapeutic and doesn't result in a hangover. I am already looking forward to your next episode. Keep it coming brother! Be safe, stay healthy and continue to learn. WAY FREAKING AWESOME MAN!
same here I agree
I,m waiting for the finished product. Been waiting for the most part, two years. I’ll stay in touch
I used to own a 65 bug for 9 years until 2012. I miss the car every day. What I don't miss is the amount of time and money that was absorbed by the car. After an almost complete restoration I had to sell my 'Herbie'. I bought the car in 2003 from a guy who bought it in Sweden. The car went to Germany after I sold it (I live in Holland). So you can say the VW Beetle is very international :) .
Keep up the good work. I enjoy seeing an 65 coming to life again.
You’re never home anymore! Good job man
How's my guitar doing? =)
Brilliant CT one of your best repairs
Nice Work CT ! Thanks Sreaight Ahead ✌😎
the bus will be a great one to use your skills on, Go TEXAS...tanks for sharing
Your nailing it CT great work iam learning as well👍💯
just a tip that works for me, if you place the replacement panel, and cut the new and old at the same time you will get a prefect fit, and a good gap to weld
I have been a licensed body repair 36 years. Did lots of restorations. Seen lots of repair guys. You have the main skills to become a very good restorer. Those skills are patience and persistence. Good work man. I am disabled now but still enjoy being around cars.
Thanks Tommy! I appreciate that! =)
I come from Germany. In our workshop we cut a strip from the replacement sheet metal and placed it behind the sheet metal. Then we connected the two parts (body and replacement panel) with two welds. Is much more durable and stable!
You are nailing this one! Good work 😊👍
Thank you! =)
is awesome how sanding makes the weld dissapear, awesome
Hey Terry! Yes, it's pretty cool. Very satisfying.
Just kicking butt! Great work!
Hey CT. I remember the first time you had to weld for the first time. And now you are the king 😀 🇺🇸🇸🇪
Thanks Kalle! =)
Relaxing and rewarding - excellent. It’s the whole reason to do stuff like this.
Hey CT, that panel fits really nicely!
Thanks Phil!
Good work CT. 👏
Man it’s starting to look like a beetle! That’s some impressive work! I’m loving this series!👌😎👍
Hellow gentlemen, Hi,
I'm from PAKISTAN, I like your hard work restore old foxy, I am waiting to see your final job...
Great to see someone learning new skills for themselves 👏👏👏
This is better than last time!
I am going to do both door pilars when i am not scared anymore.
Thanks Maine! Yes, getting better! You can do it! =)
I love watching this video series and seeing your progress. I am impressed that with each video, your skill at cutting, fitting and welding the patches is getting better and better. A real joy to watch. Thanks for sharing this project. Keep up the great work.
Good luck dude ! You are doing very well. Just keep at it.
Thnak you! =)
CT is becoming The Fitzee of FL with all this metal work!!! Bro! your progress is great thus far! Keep up the awesome content! That bug was ROTTEN - from when you first dragged it home, it was hard to see how bad it was, but it’s looking better and better every episode!
Needs some cut n butt
Its wonderful job.cap off!
CT, your welding skills improve with every new video you release. To observe your thought process and problem resolution keeps viewers like me engaged and eager to see more. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Richard! =)
Great job CT....Looks like you've found your comfort zone....👍
Thanks Dave! it's starting to feel pretty good.
CT you did a great job on that last panel replacement!!!!! It looks wonderful. You are getting better every time you do it. I enjoy your videos so much. I'm ready to see some more Rusty the Bus.
Your confidence level is increasing and you did a fine job on this quarter. Just watch your weld penetration. If you aren’t leaving enough of a gap between the panels you could have cracking down the line. I always leave the thickness of the cut-off wheel as my gauge. Seems to be just right.
Hi CT,
little by little this 1965 Volkswagen Beetle is coming to the end of the metal work on the body. So lots of success with the rest of this project
Way to go CT, thanks for getting right back on welding this baby up. This bug will look great when your done👍
Very cool project.😊
I love how the copper spoon keeps making a return.
Awesome Video CT
Looks smooth to me
Nice one CT - really impressed with how well this is going - congrats 🙂
Impressive CT, getting better every video. One cool project. 🇦🇺🇦🇺👍👍
Nice job CT looking awesome that’s what you have to do nice and slow 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Looking good
This is a Very good job my friend I'll see the final product.
Saludos!. Eres un soldador muy bueno. Me gusta mucho como va quedando tu volky.
Yep, you are getting better at the metalwork every day! I wouldn't worry excessively about the little spot where you blew through however. Just turn the heat down on your welder, and fill it with weld...don't try to tack every seam after you get god fit up, just go ahead and run a nice bead of weld. I've been watching Matt at Iron Trap, and he is a truly amazing metal worker. I never learned to TIG weld, but he makes it look very easy. You're really learning MIG welding as a great tool! I never even bought my first MIG welder 'till around 1980 something, when I was in my 40s!
Hi Ct
All the rust almost ready to come off and repaint the Car.
I'm impressed how skilled you are when measuring gaps between the old metal and the new ! I have seen "professionals" that was"nt able to do it so thourogh as you do it .
Hey brother looking good
Nice going CT you got this 👍 excellent work sir !!
Thanks Buddy!
love seeing the progress, nice job!!
Thank you! =)
Your starting to make it look easy CT 👍🏻
IF you have an area you cant reach that copper spoon in there. just turn the heat down and move the wand from one surface to the other. if that does not work just do short triggers and build a bridge. then work that bridge along.
looks good
Your are doing a great job. Syabas
I liked this, commented and I'm subscribed. Great job!
great work mate, good to see your saving the patina. Lucky you have gerson panels while you can ;)
CT, I think you should look into an electric finger file grinder, for those tight spots
Thanks Adam, I will check those out.
early subscriber, you have gotten great buddy
You should name this VW the "Ship of Thesues."
It's good to see you working at the same rate as the more experienced guys and getting results as good too. Red oxide primer with a little blue to give the impression of brown rust? Probably too difficult to achieve.... Good stuff!
I'd look at videos of model railway builders. They really know how to make shiny new stuff look old!
Keep up the good work 👏
превосходно получилось!!!!!
I use those same magnets for the same purpose. Strong, small, inexpensive, and the hook makes a great handle.
You've found the magnets... Thats easier isn't it.
Leave gaps between your welds to allow cooling and the process will go much faster.
Belo trabalho. Perfeito.
If I were you I'd have a look at a few of Bad Chads metalwork videos.
Thanks man! Yes, he is bad ass! =)
TOP! 🌿
Been watching a body man that does a lot of sheet metal work he attaches the new panel by tacking it about every 4 inches. Strategic locations when it is where he wants it
On kyllä nättii saumaa💪👍🥇
CT, you should leave a little extra on the new panel, over lap it, then tack it on. Then use the cut and butt technique from fitzee to get perfect fitment.
You do good work, but I think I would have waited and found an early 50's VW to do that total restoration on.
I have a white 65 that needs floors and channels, and the top side is good. Since you can bring this back, i can bring that one back. Is your plan to add patina to the new green metal and linseed oil the whole thing ? It SHOULD be relaxing and rewarding - this cutting and welding. Building and creating, restoring. All Good !
Ehehe, Mr. CT.. excelent progress. =) Looking good overall, although you did pehaps a bit excessive cooling on the butt joint, because if you switch spots it won't get too hot.. Remember, the majority of the welds warp metal because of pulling, therefore take the dolly (anvil) and hammer slightly the weld after aproximate grinding, before you grind it flush. That will stretch the weld and relax the pulling, only then grind it flush (you want to stretch only the weld, right? )😏. Do it in stages, easily, hammer on dolly (hard rebound sound "ding ding, not doc doc") and check in bvetween with some ruler or something for deflection.. The situation is nice, project is advancing. Keep on, we're looking at it. 🧐 Cheers!
Oh, almost forgot.. Pinch the metal on lap welds together to no gap at all, or you'll regret it later. A pair of welding grips can be extremely handy. (the ones with "fork jaws")
Hello again mate. I only hear good things about those 'funky green' Klassic Fab panels - they're expensive but worth it. I don't think they're available in the UK at the moment (probably Brexit) which is a real shame. Anyway this side is looking SO GOOD isn't it? The fit is spot on and you kept in mind the line along the bottom of the door also - that's a really neat job, I'd be over the moon with that if it was my work. One question - is it not better to do a few welds top and bottom, left and right, maybe at the corners etc, to get the panel in place and 'happy', and then gradually filling in the gaps between your spot welds, rather than just doing the top completely, then doing the bottom? It means one area has time to cool down (no need for the air jet) before going back and doing the next spot in that area, and it has less chance of warping. I'm no expert and don't know, but I've seen others doing it that way. But however you've done it - it's brilliant - keep it up!
Hey, if you have canned air, if you hold the can upside down when pressing the nozzle, the air comes out really cold.
when you can weld on inside metal// and use filler on seams out side for better finish
Well...in some parts or spaces, this body looks like having been eaten away by a swarm of moths. But this is no challenge for CT🔨!
CT great job, would it be better to change the whole canvas? The volkswagen sedan is already seeing more shape, I already want to see it roll through your country; greetings from Mexico
Hey CT you are doing a great job considering its your first time repairing
and welding panels, i am no expert but wouldnt it be easier to fit your new panel clamp it and then cut through both the old and new at the same time that way they shoud fit together perfectly the first time and you can just weld along the cut line, good luck keep em coming.
where to buy the Daytona brand low profile jack?
when you have a hole that's to big try a coat hanger & fill it in that way . Try it out on the bench with 2 Pices of metal
This car is 5years older than my mum
Haha. I own a 61 bug that is 6 years older than me
Recommend sandblasting the body, or at least using some sort of rust remover/steel wool, you don’t have to do anything I just know with clean metal and no rust it’ll make bodywork easier.
You can upload videos twice a week🌺
Would it help to put in some self tappers/clamps initially then make your cut through the body and the replacement panel at the same time? Not being a hater - just a suggestion. Looking good.
Yes, I considered doing that but you have to get the cut right the first time. This way you can ease into the fit and take you time.
Making one cut through both is more of a proper way to do it. Takes less time and less problems with a big gap to weld.
Before body filler you have to put mar glass a fiberglass body filler waterproof all body panels have a galvanized glaze on them you took it off mar glass fiberglass body filler is the best you can do to put it back
👍👍
Great work! 👏 It would look pretty cool if you were able to replicate the coulours/patina
Thank you! Yes, I hope we can.
🖤
Am the third comment
It's a shame that panel is going to pretty weak, most of the welds are just sat ontop of the metal as there was next to no gap between the panels, and then when you grind the weld down there's next to no material left.
I like this bug and your restoration but many minutes of spot welding in a line becomes tedious. As well as the bodywork can you comment on the repair panels (good/bad) and even the tools you are using. Keep up the good work.
You have an air flange tool...learn how to use it on DIYAutoschool channel on Pete's Ghia restoration. Much better than a butt weld. *They have a product that absorbs heat from your weld preventing it from escaping through the panel. Allowing heat to get into panel and rapid cooling with air isn't ideal.
Eres un maquina. Que pena que has pulverizado con imprimación el chasis. 😳
Spend spend spend a dime here a nickel there no end in sight!!!
CT, why you don’t use a cutting guide instead of your own hand.
"nó detenga su motor e investigue su interior si el mundo da vueltas y nosotros también " Pappo
? Why do you not use the whole panel gr8 job
