Please use US measurements on US ships and guns in the future please. No one calls it a 127 mm gun, its called a 5 inch gun in the US.
@@ExemptAndromeda That really doesn't seem too important.
@@adamtruong1759 itâs unimportant? A video about a US ship with an American flag on the thumbnail will attract primarily American viewers and its unimportant to use US measurements?
@@ExemptAndromeda They have the internet to find out if they are able to watch the video.

USs Torsk "The galloping Ghost of the Japanese Coast" tied up next to the Baltimore Aquarium. I once spent a night tied up close to her aboard a sailboat after a Saturday race from Annapolis to Baltimore. This presentation is excellent. I learned a lot about US submarines. I wasn't aware that the Torsk was involved in the Cuba Bolckade. The day before JFK ordered the blockade, he sent his aides out to buy up all the H Upman Cuban Cigars they could find.
As a videographer I'm always very impressed by the team/s that make these features. Good job guys!
The sister ship - USS Cutlass SS-478 is still in the service in Taiwan's navy as a training/combat ship with 150m diving capability after retrofit in 2018.
I toured the Torsk twice when I was a kid. It made a big impression on me. Very cool technology for way back then.
I got to sleep over on her one time
Had a friend in elementary school who was in Boy Scouts. Was invited to stay overnight on the Torsk with his troop. Got to sleep in the old school bunks and everything. Not very comfortable lol but a super memorable experience!
Why do Americans always seem call them boy scouts?
We just call them scouts.
My cousin is in Gilwell (the scouts Association HQ)
@@harryjohnson9215 Calling them scouts would be easier honestly. Itâs probably because the US has separate organizations for boys and girls.
Very Good!!!
I did that also!
I was in the scouts
My night has been improved by a new Naval Legends episode
And our day magnified by your comment, Chancellor.
USS Torsk was SS-423, my father was radioman on USS SEACAT SS-399 which was one of 12 Subs that escorted the BB-63 Missouri into Tokyo Bay for the Surrender of the Japanese
Kudos to your father, sir.
I'm a foreigner, not a US citizen, yet I have a strong and often also a sentimental interest in the USN.
In the seaport city where I was being raised, there were very few days when US Navy Ships were not in port.
Although now probably succumbed to the fate of all elderly, the sailors who we intermingled with as teenagers will remain forever young
With nothing but respect, it must be said that American Submarine captains were Christened with some pretty cool names - like movie stars of the same era.
In 1980, I was attending a multi-day meeting at the Baltimore Inner Harbor, I n the Navy, I had initially qualified in subs (Sea Leopard, SS-483 ) at the Admiral's "request" as a pre-req for nuke power school. I decided to tour the Torsk over lunch. Little did I know; I ended up leading several tours of the boat for tourists. I don't know why the Torsk support staff didn't seem to have anyone available, but I totally enjoyed my 'duty', and my day..
Thank you for your service. Just being onboard the Torsk, as a civilian, made me have a greater awareness/appreciation for the efforts of the submariners.
I was literally on Torsk about a month ago! Itâs in Baltimore by the National Aquarium. You can get on it and U.S.S. Constellation with one pretty cheap payment I donât remember
Incredible!!... I took a tour of the USS Torsk back in 1986... While visiting my big brother in D.C. It was in Baltimore Harbor..where it was being moored. I went there with my nephew and he was amazed.... I spent about four hours in it and took a lot of pitures with my Kodak camera ( no smartphones back then ) I never got over how big it was!!!!
I saw USS Torsk only once when I went to Baltimore while on a trip to Washington D.C. in 2015. But back then, I didnât know Torsk had such a track record. The things you learn with time.
"A very eloquent fact that characterizes the Tench-class submarines is that one of these submarines is still in service."
ex-USS Cutlass (SS-478) now is in Taiwanese Navy ROCS Hai Shih (SS-791). It has extended its service life until 2026 (or new generation of submarine on service).
This has me wanting to watch Down Periscope again!
Down Periscope was a great comedic movie, I've watched it many times. For a dramatic movie I watch Run Silent, Run Deep.
Had a chance to go aboard the Torsk a decade or so ago when teaching in Glen Burny, MD, not far from Baltimore. I was still surprised how cramped everything was. Prior to that, I'd only been aboard surface ships and the SSBN Nevada. The latter is still pretty tight, but compared to the Torsk, downright roomy.
The USS Torsk is at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, along with the USS Constellation sailing ship (1854) and sister ship to the USS Constitution in Boston, USCG Cutter 37, the LV116 Chesapeake (Lightship), and the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse. The National Aquarium is there as well, along with many restaurants, shops, water taxis, etc. I have been there many times. The ships can be toured, very interesting/informative. The Little Italy in Baltimore is a few blocks away, but has seen better times. Beware of straying. Baltimore is a very historic city, with many sites to see, such as the Shot Tower, Fort McHenry (attacked in 1812, with Francis Scott Key, onboard a British ship, and wrote the US National Anthem), the Walters Art Museum, the American Visionary Art Museum, Westminster Church where Edgar Allan Poe was buried, and the FIRST Washington Monument in the US. The city has many sites to see.
Don't forget Federal Hill
*hate to say but you've got the wrong constellation, none of constitution's sisters survived
(although it was apparently really iffy if that constellation was the original or not because Politics)
If only WarGamings video game was as good as their amazing CZcams videos! Fantastic as always!
Finally not a paper ship.
#2 attempt to petition for Warspite Naval Legends
I live in Baltimore, so I get to walk by the USS Torsk on my way to my favorite restaurant every Saturday. Thank you for showcasing this historic submarine.
In case anyone wonders; a Torsk is a type of Cod. Not the prettiest fish, has a single barbel hanging from it's chin, like a overly-long goatee.
Cool Norwegian fish name.
Lots of American with it's family from Scandinavia have tasted lutefisk, bacalao and more Scandinavian dishes. Bacalao is actually a Norwegian Italian, the history of Bacalao is a really cool story.
Bro I have fricken been on that ship. I did an overnight tour for Cub Scouts and visited it last year as well. It is really cool
I love it. âMerry/Land!â
A 3:11 is shows the actual speed these subs should go. maybe try that in game
I live in New London CT! Crazy to hear your town randomly in videos.
Great historical video WoWarships!
This is the voice that I would want my teacher sound like
Imagine the shock and embarrassment of being defeated by an old rickety WWII submarine in while in your shiny new and advance warship.
I spent a night on uss torsk years ago. Great to see things like it preserved
As a Norwegian i think its kinda funny they named it Torsk , because Torsk = Cod in Norwegian .
In Danish as wellâŠđ
Uss Cod in Cleveland Ohio usa
The MK14 torpedoes was probably more dangerous to the sub carrying them
In New London and Groton, we have a saying: âthere are two types of vessels out on the water; submarines, and targets.â
Really !!! I doubt most of the population there would say that.
maximum speed:
surface: 20 knots, submerge: 8.7 knots
in wows (mostlikely)
surface: 27knots, submerge: 27 knots
My dad's submarine commander has a somewhat similar wargame story.
wish they still had this kind of content on the history channel.
Great video, dislike is for the current state of subs in game and the negative impact they have on the playability of other classes.
A new Naval Legends lets gooooo!
Beautiful ship... Old days make great ship for hard battles
I just stayed near the Inner Harbor a few weeks ago for work and walked along side her. No tour available that day, but pretty cool!
I Like your chanel... Cuz I've learn many things here...
Torsk also means cod in danish
I was able to take a nap on this submarine lol I bought a ticket and it was so slow. I was the only customer all day
Captains!

Do one on the forgotten USS Tang
The ship that destroyed the most ships throughout the war am i right?
@@admiralhans8273 And eventually the ship that commited suicide
hello!why we cannot buy submarines at the shop yet?
Just recently I got to tour the USS Torsk in Baltimore
Yes, the USS Torsk is at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, along with the USS Constellation sailing ship (1854) and sister ship to the USS Constitution in Boston, USCG Cutter 37, the LV116 Chesapeake (Lightship), and the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse. The National Aquarium is there as well, along with many restaurants, shops, water taxis, etc. I have been there many times. The ships can be toured, very interesting/informative. Ya... but how do you GET a submarine, i keep seeing them, but i have yet to find a way to GET one. Im being killed by a weapon i cannot get myself.
fun fact: in the movie 'Down Periscope', the diesel submarine used is a Balao-class sub. in the movie the part it plays is as the USS Stingray, irl it was the USS Pampanito.
Great video as usual.
Been on the Torsk several times.....always a great sight to see in Baltimore's Inner Harbor.
Thatâs so cool Iâve been there and live 30 minutes away
When covering anything from the US inventory please include feet and inches as well as metric when discussing dimensions, maximum depth, or any applicable specification. It's just being respectful to any country of origin to use that country's units of measure.
Yes and its inconvenient to have to try to do the conversion whilst enjoying the video
I can understand the metric system, but yet can never relate this to a physical example as I can with Imperial. It's a generational thing because in my country Imperial based on 12 was all we knew. Then along came the metric system with metres, centimetres and millimetres.
That comes down to the Darwinian, adapt and survive.
I met my late wife at the Torsk.
My grandpa served on the torsk, duing the cold war.
Old school always have old bones
Oh yeah that sub is in Baltimore near me
I love how they ran out of fish name's for WW2 subs and start using fish dishes like torsk....
Torsk is the Norwegian name for Cod, so... Still a fish name ;)
Yes Torsk is Cod in Norwegian. So it is probably because of Norwegian American, ore Scandinavian who there are still villages and many Norwegian at least in the state of Washington on the West Coast.
I heard that Lutefisk, who is a dish made often for Christmas by Norwegian American, also Danish. So Torsk, it cannot be more traditional Norwegian American
interisting how good the technology was at that time
Ya but... where are the subs? I don't see them in the tech tree, armory, my ships list, nothing.... been trying to find them for like a month now....
combat missions, check there
Combat missions to earn base xp. Each time you complete a stage, you are given a pair of rental subs for T6, 8, and 10.
How tall is the sail of a WW2 fleet submarine? (Main deck to top of periscope shears. With scopes retracted.)
She's 30 minutes up the road from and if your in the Baltimore area it's well worth the visit and just ahead of her is the Coast Guard cutter Taney and she was at Pearl Harbour on Dec 7th 1941.
Baltimore Inner Harbor, a great place to visit if you dont get mugged walking from where ever you park.
Torsk really got the achievent; "Final Blow"
Like a boss.
It's been awhile since the last naval legends. I missed it.
USS Torsk in world of warships legends Xbox version.
USS Torsk is in my hometown
wasn't the first naval action on september 1st? German ship Schleswig-Holstein fired shells at the port of Danzig that day.
Are we getting USS torsk in world of warships đ
Just reminded me about down periscope
I hope that they have the USS Torsk Sharkface as a option for this. Boat. If you enjoyed this video, one of the guides operates JaySea Archaeology.
Why'd they have to get rid of the shark paint
@ 06:09 She was commissioned in Dec 1944
Very good the history
I would like an intuitive, nice and easier interface like World of Tanks, it would be great if they would implement it.

Can we please get USS Enterprise or USS Johnson?
Itâs crazy when you sit and think at how fast these types of weapons of war were made and sent to battle? For a sub like this I canât find build time Iâm sure it was 6months maybe? As ships where spat out monthly at insane numbers.
You should do uss Enterprise cv6
I have been there many times as a kid.
i love this videos, thanks for the spanish captions!
We need a Premium Balao class called Stingray and Commander Kelsey Grammer. Some down periscope related bonuses.
In port itâs either all rusted out or it has the âin the navyâ music video playing on the deck.

Need to do the USS Laffy
Torsk? Thats Swedish for cod ( and also a slang term for men that buy s'x )
13:55 This part is awesome
Pretty sophisticated for 1945
Captains!
Congratulations
Why is it named after the Norwegian word for Cod?
@@lonniesmith5928I know that, but they already have a sub named "Cod". So it's a bit weird that they translated that into Norwegian and slapped that onto the sub lol
@@ClydeThaMonkey We built a lot of submarines. So many that according to a video I watched about USN naming schemes, we ran out of actual fish, and started using words that sounded like fish. This became a small problem when captains were asking for picture of fish that didn't exist.
Very nice!
Didn't know my waifu can be so deadly a k.a USS bluegill
Oh my god I've been on this ship omg!!!!!! This is my favorite ship!
Nice Job
