    Simon keeps saying the issue of meritocracy and diminishment of the domestic league has been resolved, but it hasn’t. If Chelsea were in the Star league and finished 10th in the premier league they could stay in the star league while a team like Villa finishing second in premier league would join the blue league. This diminishes the domestic league and gives the big team a massive leverage in staying in the super league irrespective of domestic performance.

    chelsea gets to spend the combined ammount of 2 transfer windows of the whole la liga combined in one window....premier league is the super league ..they make almost triple what everyoe makes ..thats why theyll oppose it cus they want a monopoly on football...and with all their money, they still dont dominate european competitions ..so now that money will get to others they are scared that the true gap in football quality will show ...because football is better on the eye test in every other league but england has the hype and salary to attract other players to their league and make it look better than it actually is

    • @adeyinkabenjamin9537
      @adeyinkabenjamin9537 Před 5 měsíci

      This comment is so dumb. The premier league's success comes from how competitive it is, the tension is what fans enjoy. 5 different teams have won the EPL since the turn of the century with only 2 teams winning it more than twice in a row. If you start bu considering that Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham are 2 of the best players in the world ATM, are Englishmen and don't play in the EPL and work up, you will realize that the EPL doesn't have a monopoly on the best players in the world. As for your so called eye-test, I suggest you see someone, if you think that the quality of football in the Germany or France or Italy, I not even going to mention seemingly semi-pro leagues like the Eredivisie and Super Liga (Portuguese) and think that they are better quality football than what we watch in the EPL. How is a superleague beneficial to the fans? Real Madrid and Barcelona who are so hell bent, USED to be richer than 90% of the premier league, and are now pushing this superleague so that they can make money and go back to being in a dominant position because they squandered their money

    • @paulie-g
      @paulie-g Před 6 měsíci +1

      We already know what UEFA deliver for ordinary fans: less than 40% of the ticket allocation for the CL final for the fans of *both* teams *combined*. The rest mysteriously end up with sponsors, UEFA functionaries and their guests, "the UEFA family" whatever the f-ck that means, just not fans. Oh, and they repeatedly schedule them at venues/in countries where the fans are robbed, then abused by police who couldn't be bothered to protect them from the robbers just before that. UEFA can't even manage to be competent enough to prosecute FFP cheats within the legal timeframe open to them. So no, f-ck UEFA. Would the ESL be better? Probably not, but this decision opens the door to an alternative system and *that* can only be good, because it's UEFA's and FIFA's monopoly that has allowed them to degrade into corruption, nepotism, and ineffectiveness that serves everyone *but* the fans and the game right before our eyes.

      I think the aim for this league is to no longer play in the Premier league playing matches which don't make any profit and focus only on games which make profit, kinda like American Football. The thing is most Football Associations are made up of teams thoughout the country and not just the top team, so as the Football Associations gain more and more members, then the voice of the best teams often get drowned out.
      A possible advantage of having a different league is that you're able to set different rules such as offside only counts if the player is over a metre in front, or using new technologies (e.g. hawkeye), or using robot referees, 10 lines men, larger squad sizes or goalkeepers able to use pole vaults. The disadvantage of a different league is that it has a chance of fragmenting the fans and making football in general less popular and thus have less investment from sponsorship as those adverts aren't being seen by previously larger audiences.

And the PL is not competitive, it's the league with the top 4 that accumulates the most points, has big gaps all over the table and the title race 3 out 4 times is a two horse race between a longer term dominant team and a temporary big spending challenger. Simon, I love you mate, but the meritocracy argument isn’t gone. The ESL is now offering a semi-closed league format. So some of the teams have to get in on merit, but some STILL DON’T! That’s the issue. Until this is a competition where each and every team enters the league and stays in the league on merit only, I have zero interest in this. Semi-closed is semi-American and speaking as an American, I hate the closed league system that only exists here and practically nowhere else in the world!

    I have no problem with a European Super League. We already have a handful of clubs that are so far in front of the others financially its a farce having th in the same division. So long as there is promotion and relegation I dont see the problem. Football needs a salary cap or we just gonna watch Newcastle and City win every league from now to the end of history.

      There will be promotion and relegation since the new format puts teams in 3 different groups. It will be like a completely new domestic league but with international clubs. It also won’t affect the domestic league, because even if a team in Serie A were to be relegated to Serie B, they could still be at the top of the group of the SL and earn more money than they would by playing in Serie B.

      @@DEVRIMCI2007you only stay in the SL if you win games… read the new format. There are 3 groups, and if Real Madrid were to be relegated from each of those groups then they’d be out of the super league for that year until they’re able to get back in through their position in the La Liga
