My grandfather's father & brothers worked on trying to repair the breach in the Colorado River that re-filled the Salton Sea in 1905-1907 as it took 2 years to complete the repairs. The family, after having brought the first cattle drive, along with a large herd of horses, with their families from southeastern TX to Val Verde, NM, before the Lincoln Co war, lived there and raised horses & contracted their teams and wagons for hauling dirt and rock. They had come from NM for the work. My grandmother, whose family also came from NM at the time and moved to CA wrote about it, and the story is preserved in our family papers.

This would partly explain how the Ancient Lake Cahuilla area, sitting near the Colorado River (which is made of inland fresh water run-off), became so salty. It wasn't a "basin", it was actually part of the Pacific Ocean. Who knew? And are you whiners just a little s-l-o-w? The animation very understandable.
Just slow it down a little, folks, and watch it twice. 😁
