Tony, I want to thank you for this great video. It inspired this 66 year old to take the plunge and plan to climb Arthur's Seat. Wasn't sure I could do it, but this morning, I got to watch the sunrise from the top. It was magnificent. You have made our current trip to Edinburgh so much better through your videos. Again, thank you. And DAMN, it was windy!
Thats brilliant. Hope you enjoyed the view fro the top
A great video. I want to tell you, I just got back from England and Scotland (a lifelong dream!) last Friday and I went to some of the places you showed in other videos (Grassmarket, a restaurant there, the hanging spot in the square, Edinburgh Castle) I kept my eyes open for you but didn't see you (not surprising as you were probably at work) but I wanted to tell you how enriched my short visit was to beautiful Edinburgh from watching your videos! My husband and I were communicating back and forth as he watched some of your videos too and we learned about Half Hangit Maggie, etc. Keep up the great work! It made everything feel like I was visiting an old friend when I saw some of the sights of Edinburgh;)
Thank you so much for saying that. That is incredibly kind of you. I am glad we could help you have great visit.
Very beautiful view! Thank you!
Thanks very much for this so beautiful video.... very nice place!
I just did this hike the other day the long way and barely made it lol. Had to take breaks. I wanted to try and show my kids what the walk was like so I showed them your video. Nicely done! Nothing can prepare them for the scale of the real thing but this video does a good job of it.
Gee i saw Bingham , that really brings back memories. Thank you Tony.
Thank you so much for this video. I am going to do this very soon. Thank you for sharing, very helpful 🙏🏻
This weekend here we come, 1st time for me, brilliant video thanks
This is a good place to extend my deep gratitude and appreciation for your work and for sharing your obvious love of Edinburgh with the rest of the world. While I was wondering around the Old and New Town areas, I stumbled upon dozens of insanely crowded and popular sights and locations that were recognizable to me because of your video series. The real fun for me was coming across some of your favorite obscure locations and, again, quickly recognizing them. I felt right at home in your lovely city. Thanks, ever thanks.
Glad we could make you visit more enjoyable.
It’s always nice to wake up on a Saturday morning and seeing a new ClanBroonford video. You had a beautiful day for the walk. I imagine it’s also very beautiful up there for a sunset.
I have never actually watched a sunset from there, but i bet it is amazing.
Thank you so much! I was trying to figure this out and this video gives me the confidence! 🥾🥾
One of my favorite videos Tony!!! My son and I walked up that very same path. Amazing views. It was one of the best parts of our trip to Edinburgh. Thank you!!
Glad you enjoyed it. Hope it brought back good memories.
@@ClanBroonford I was quite scared to climb Arthur's seat looking up at it but after watching this I definitely will the next time I go to Edinburgh. You live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Thanks for being the great vlogs. You have a lovely quiet charm about you, so easy to listen to.
Thank you for this video. Love the view. When I visit Scotland I will definitely go to Arthurs seat. I just subscribed and look forward to watching your other videos.
Welcome to Clan Broonford.
Wow! Thank you for the awesome video! Planning a trip to Scotland later this year, and will be staying in Edinburgh for a lot of it - I am so happy to have found your channel! Can't wait to binge your videos :D
Thank you so much. Hope you don't get board of my face.
I am loving all your videos...so entertaining, so informative ...simply brilliant. I'm heading to Edinburgh at the end of May, for the first time, and your films have been invaluable. Thank you Xx
Thank you so much, glad they help.
@@ClanBroonford If i see you out filming I'll buy you a wee dram x
Glad you're getting support! You deserve it!
Thank you so much.
Again great vid im going up there tomorrow on my birthday with my friend's 👍🏻🍻
Hope you have a great birthday.
Omg you are so brave to go up Arther Seat in Feb love your videos
This was incredibly helpful!
Hi enjoyed your video! Did the walk yesterday in the stormy weather, got soaked on way by a nice chap in his Audi by driving fast through the flood water, cheers pal! Ascended Salisbury crags 1st then down and back up a steep path! Got the summit to myself amazing! Was difficult getting pics in the heavy rain! I know it's only a hill but the route I took it was a mini mountain. A fantastic place! Can't wait to visit again maybe doing a couple of loops! Cheers Mark.
Yes. Very nice. Be safe.
Thank you SO much for this video! Walking up Arthur’s Seat is the last thing left on my Edinburgh bucket list and I’ve been wanting to do that for years! But somehow I’ve still not managed to get up there! I finally tried back in Feb. and used the path you used to walk up, but it was so muddy and slippery on that day, so I gave up. I’ll be back in June and will hopefully be able to try again then and, thanks to you and your video, I’ll know the different routes and will see which one is best for me. I’m a “No Sports!” person, so it’ll be a nice challenge and I’ll be so proud of myself when I finally make it to the top. And those views! WOW! 😍
Just take your time and enjoy the walk. Have fun.
My favourite city in the world and you always make it look better . Your videos show me parts of Edinburgh that I never knew existed. I’m always up and each time I am I go check out a place mentioned in your videos . Keep up the good work 👌🏻
Thanks so much.
No . Thank you pal 👌🏻
Our group will be in Edinburgh May 24-May 28, 2023 we definitely want to do this! I love your videos!
Fantastic views, thank you for taking us along #clanbroonford
Thats what I am here for.
I would never have made that trip with my bum knees, but now I have done it with you...THANK YOU.
You are very welcome.
Great video, hoping to go for the 1st time this weekend 😊
Great video mate. Born and bred in Edinburgh myself and never bothered my a**e to go up Arthur's seat, because A. It's not going anywhere and B) because I'm a lazy sod. I just wanted to say that this video has given me the boost to get it done and finally get it done. if not done so already you should check out Wallaces cave down Roslin Glen, few hidden wee gems down that neck of the woods. Cheers again man, keep up the good work!
Hi Tony. Was in Edinburgh 25th to 28th had the most beautiful weather. Loved it but not long enough didn't get to do everything we wanted, so going to have to do a return trip soon . This has to be on the list for next time. Loving your rendition of popular! Lol ! Great video as always mate .
You are the only person who has appreciated my rendition. Thanks.
@@ClanBroonford totally aapplied to my sense of humour, sweetie. Wicked.
I was there last week, totally fell for the place. Gonna go for longer next time x
Cold weather and laziness prevented us from walking up Arthur’s Seat. Thank you for doing it for me. The views are brilliant and now I’ve been hit with a heavy dose of regret.
Well you can do it on your next visit.
Great video. Did the walk twice last week.
Thank you for the wonderful video. I am so glad now that it was pouring rain the day we were planning to climb Arthur’s Seat. I must say it was a blessing the rain kept us off the climb. I would have to be air-evacuated off the top if I made it to the top. I have a tiny problem with heights!
Yeah, climbing up there might not have been the best plan then.... but you have kinda down it now buy watching the video.
I was there in February of 2019, i saw authors seat 6 years earlier and didnt climb , this trip to Edinburgh i made a point to climb it, i took the easier way ay 61 i didnt want to break any bones stumbling, the view is incredible, Edinburgh is my favorite city, i love all your videos, i wished i lived there instead of florida where im from
Thank you so much. We love Florida, wre there whenever money allows.
Arthurs seat you ignorant Yank.
Love your videos and as I go to Scotland I hope I don’t get lost
Nah, its not that big. You will be fine.
Thanks for this! We were there in 2015, and couldn't find the way up, don't know why; I guess it wasn't meant to be. Love your channel, and can't wait to see where you'll take us next!
Would love some videos on speaking Scottish, ie. how things are pronounced, and common, everyday sayings (not just slang) in Edinburgh. I'm writing a book and could use all the help I can get on making the accents believable.
Glad to help in any way we can.
I’ve really enjoyed all your videos! My boyfriend and I will be in Edinburgh in about a week and a half :)
Thank you so much, hope you both have a great visit.
We've been in town for several days now and your videos have been a great help. Been on the lookout for you but no luck so far :) I can't emphasize enough for those planning a visit to Edinburgh the steepness of the streets heading up the royal mile to the castle. If you have bad knees like me or are out of shape you will have a VERY difficult time so be prepared. Wear good walking shoes! Keep up the good work guys! Thanks from clan Gamble. :) PS. we highly recommend Highland eXperience tours booking out of cafe Nero across from St Giles. Try and get on Garry's bus. He's a blast!!
I'm just back from Edinburgh. I cud be not believe how hilly it was!! Beautiful though x
The climb was hell. But I loved it. I loved the Scottish people. Had a great time
Used to slide down the grass as a kid with shell suit bottoms on, fun times lol Best place to view Edinburgh up there, always windy but worth the climb. If you are into jogging the race around arthurs seat is gd too, it all keeps you fit no matter if you climb it to the top or walk/jog round and round the radical rd the radical rascal ran. 👍
Im watching from Arthurs Seat …lol…I live five mins drive from there…Its gorgeous.
Braw video of Arthur's Seat, Lad. It looks as if you had a grand day for your walk-about. I am glad to see there is an easier third option to go up Arthur's Seat. Being 20 years aulder than you and being gimpy with a cane, the first two options would prevent me from attempting the climb. Slàinte
Its worth the trip, but even from the route you can drive to you get amazing views.
Stunning views , such a nice place so close to the city! I have no words to describe this place. U DID IT ON THE PERFECT DAY. THANK YOU, I WILL NEVER FORGET .... Concerning the patron, i m in . I going to solve the way to do it.❣❣❣ Could u give the link, please?
Hi, thats incredibly kind of you.
www.patreon.com/thebroonfords
thank you so much.
Tony, another fantastic video. However when i walked up there, i did not feel safe. The path suddenly became very narrow and i had a large drop at the side of me. I felt in great danger, however i do agree the views are incredible.
This fair.
Nice one . Still need to check out the secret garden if you already haven't
When i get i chance, i will definitely head there.
Aww the memories :) Thank you, We Went up the way you came down... and we came down the 3rd part an walked the road back, it was Amazing Sore as heck the next few days lol 43 as well an typical american not use to walking much lol .. but Amazing Video thank you so much !!!!!
Cool, hope it brought back some good memories.
@@ClanBroonford It did :) I even brought a rock back home from Arthur's Seat :) Thank you so much for the video's !!! It's so sad to see the Graffiti on the chapel ruins :(
Great video 👍
Can you recall the paddling pool at st margarets loch? I remember playing there as a kid and going in the pedal boats on the loch.
If my memory is clear i think i used to see rowing boats there on Dunsapie loch, away back in the early 50's.
I don't remember that unfortunately. My parents said they used to go rowing on St Margarets Loch before they were married.
Loved the video! I will be in Edinburgh as part of a cruise stop in May and would love to hike this. How long would you estimate the hike will take, up and back? I am in fairly good shape. Thanks.
Been up to the top many times even in the middle of the night. So, I've climbed a volcano - albeit one of the retired variety.
Because of your channel, I have joined two more young Scottish boy channels.
Sean- red head, facial hair. He is also in Edinburgh.
The Kilted Coaches- red hair, facial hair.(I have noticed a trend with all of you cuties.)
I have learned alot, and you started it!
You should fly kites up there.(Or, would that be disrespectful?)
Being from Florida, that's a mountain!
The cobblestone street in Rome going to the circus is crazy like that. I had to constantly look down where I was stepping.
Thats cool. I have met Shaun, and we communicate on here and other social networks. We are hoping to do a video together at some point. Let him know if you think it would be a good idea for us to do something together.
The Broonfords I was wondering if you knew each other, I have been following Shaun for a while as well. I think a video together would be cool.
He is a nice guy, would’ve great to do a video together. Drop himacimment mentioning it. We both need the push to do it.
Thanks for this video. I'm trying to plan a hike this weekend and am curious if I do a sunset climb if I might be able to catch the Tattoo Fireworks (when would those be going off?) or if I should just do a sunrise climb to avoid it being crowded?
I love starting my Saturdays here in California with a Broonford video - look forward to it each week! I’ve been to Edinburgh twice and have climbed Arthur’s Seat both times, and you are so right in saying that this climb “gets you all out of breath and you want to die.” But it’s also SO worth it! I’ll be back in about a month and will need to do some driving on this next visit. Do you mind if I ask you a question here in the comments about driving in Scotland?
Hi, no we are happy to help with anything you want to know about visiting. If its personal, we don't tend to answer them.
@@ClanBroonford I’m trying to figure out how to get from Edinburgh to Fast (aka False aka Fause) Castle. From what I can see it's pretty isolated on the east coast, just north of St. Abb’s Head Nature Reserve. I’m not a fan of driving, even here in the US where I live; I’ve done it once in the UK (Lincoln, England) and found it extremely stressful because everything is the reverse of what I'm used to. I think I’d be OK as long as I’m not in city traffic. I’m considering taking public transportation to a place outside Edinburgh, such as Musselburgh or North Berwick and driving from there. Thoughts on that? How is the A1 in that area? Is it pretty heavily trafficked or not too bad? Thanks so much!
I'm also wondering if any days are less busy on the roads - for instance weekends vs. weekdays?
Just climbed up here
First of all I would like to thank you for your very useful information you give us time by time. May I kindly ask you if there is a parking close to Arthur seat, and how long does it take to reach its summit pls?
There is parking close to arthurs seat. There is a couple of car parks in the park, and you can also get parked at Abbey Hill beside the park.
You should have brought Merlin he would enjoyed the walk. really enjoyed that walk. I’m 62 so I don’t think I will walk it. It sad that someone would mar the beautiful of historical ruins with graffiti. Looking forward to more videos.
Merlin probably would have pulled me all the way up.
Recently discovered your videos. That you for sharing your city with the world. My wife and I love Scotland and are coming back (from US) to celebrate our 25th anniversary in June. We will definitely go up Arthur's Seat while in Edinburgh this time, so appreciate this video (showed me which path not to do). I have a question for both of you. We would like to bring some small gifts for people we will be meeting on our travels (both men and women). Since you have visited the States before, are there any particular items you might recommend to bring from here that Scottish people would appreciate (i.e. not available locally)? I feel most things are universally available these days, but there are still some items unique to each place. What treats, etc. do you pack your suitcases with when you travel home from Florida? Appreciate any ideas. ~ Jonathan
Glad you enjoy the videos. Usually for us its candy that we can't get here. But that just because we both have a sweet tooth.
@@ClanBroonford Thanks that's helpful. Can you tell me which types of American candy you cannot get there? I assume that M&Ms are everywhere, but what about Reeces peanut buttercups? Are there any others you recommend I bring? Appreciate the help.
Great video! Sounds silly for asking, but I know it looks high from the video from the top of Arthurs Seat, but with someone with a fear of heights, do you feel high up?
Hi, I think it will be ok, as long as you stay in away from the edges.
The Broonfords ah perfect thank you! Been loving the vlogs, heading back up Scotland later in the year and giving me some great ideas!
Have you hiked Blackford Hill? I'm wondering what the difficulty level of that hike is compared to Arthur's Seat. Thanks!
No im afraid i haven't been there.
If you look carefully at the very top, on the base of one of the small columns/plinths, you can see where some people has carved their names into the rock........350 odd years ago.
Look out for them.

As always: perfect way to start the weekend! Thanks for climbing up the hill!! 🏆
Will try to keep to schedule to not ruin your routine.
Clan your only 42 then you could be running up that hill at such a young age. Look forward to your next short documentary the taking off of f bad graffiti on precious stones. Love letter to Neil Oliver protecting Scotland heritage. Congratulations
Im 46 now.
One of your viewers from Belfast asked about wheelchair facilities at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.I was a volunteer barrier steward for 15 years. In my time there was access on the left hand side of castle hill for wheelchair users and other disabled people.b( Term used was walking wounded ) they were admitted going up on the left hand side before the main crowd were given access to the ticket barriers..Once you pass the security check point take to the right hand side in front of the stand where you are undercover and have a ringside view. All the staff are their to assist any customer needing any help, all you have to do is ask for it.When the show finishes it is quite a lot of people leaving and I would ask any wheelchair uses to hold back a bit until the rush eases off.In the 60 odd years of the Tattoo there has never been a show cancelled. Please ensure you are well wrapped up as the esplanade can be quite cold.I have seen Foreign visitors leaving shortly after the show starts as they had not been advised about how cold it can be. Hope you have a lovely visit to the Tattoo and my home City of Edinburgh.
Thank you so much, i will share it with them.
I’ve driven up it
Its me Frank the guy in the wheelchair again. Would you please tell me if the military tattoo has facilities for wheelchairs, to get them right up to the pradeground? As I mentioned before I live in Belfast so would need to book all aspects of a break including hotels nearby. Do you think my wife and myself would be better flying or the car on the boat. Thank you for your assistance.
Hi, another subscriber has read your question and has kindly answered it for me, here is what they wrote. Once I climbed Arthur’s seat at night, alone. Let’s just say I don’t recommend it lol. If I didn’t have a compass and flashlight on my phone I honestly don’t know what would’ve happened. Kinda shocked it’s open 24 hours a day lol.
Tony I'm older, which is the easiest trail up??
no way on trail 2. lol since I don't have a car is there a way to get a ride up the rd? Thanks
Hi, no i don't think there is an organised ride up. The road method may still be your easiest option. there is a path beside the road. Although it will be a lot longer route, it won't be as steep.
@@ClanBroonford thanks its the steps that kill me. or uneven ground. getting excited to visit. 28 days
Not Carlton but Calton Hill 🙄😋
It just slipped out.
