March 13 2007 KTNV Coverage Stardust Implosion

- In the early morning hours on this date, one of the last of the legacy casino/resorts came tumbling down. In its place was suppose to be mega-resort Echelon. Which, as of the Fall of 2012, just the skeleton framework of that place exists and nothing more.
It's just a damn shame that this icon of Vegas's past was torn down.
It seems that the more we advance, we lose the history that made the Strip legendary. Neon bone yards are the only remnants of the past. I understand that the upkeep of the hotels and casinos are seriously expensive (one can wish that it were not so). Since the Covid Pandemic shut down, the Strip will never be the same. We can't change it - I just wish that we could meld the past with the future for the next generations to come.
I so remember this. I was there. One of the few times I bothered to go to a live implosion. My family has history with the Dust though so I had to do it. I just couldn't stay home. I lived a couple of blocks away anyway so I had to go. This was a hell of a night, let me tell you.
Hezekiah Ramirez do u know what replaced the stardust hotel?
@@lstruggy it was supposed to be the echelon, but that's still empty I think. What a waste of property
metallica 2000 update: as of October 7 2018 9am their currently building Worlds Resort Hotel Casino est opening end of 2020 a Chinese mandarin theme style w high end shopping center ⏳
@@justin487322 it's now resorts world Las Vegas opening summer 2021
@@justin487322 It’s not empty anymore! Resorts World Las Vegas opened two months ago, and there are many tributes to what stood here before: the marquee painting by the Rolls Royce exhibit, and even the palm trees are recycled, too!
Bigger and newer isn't always better!
YES it is ! Old Vegas sucked balls !

Such a shame. The house that Nomi Malone built. Well at least we'll always have Showgirls to remember it by.
Weird way to spell 'Casino'
the super epic legendary stardust hotel 1958:2007
RIP for those who couldn't sleep at that time
I never stayed at the stardust, but ive actually been inside and my family and i, ate at a restaurant in there.
GOODBYE,STARDUST
Sad, really....
I was there the last night on Halloween i loved the stardust and the frontier
Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal worked there.
I wonder if he sneaked in among the crowd and watched the demo.
Aaaaannnndddddd Echelon never happened. LOL RIP Echelon.
nope. It was one of many projects that got canceled when the economy went south in 2008-2009.
Thankfully, we got Resorts World out of it
If you needed a witness at the stardust.
That bellman's your man.
When I was little, I always thought stardust was a topless club.
It is almost 15 years since this happened!
No more 8-10 nightly rooms - my family of four was able to have a full week vacation back in the 70's
Days are gone - no respect for history...? Does LV have a sign strip museum at least? I'm so glad I took pictures when I did as a kid
There is a Neon Museum in downtown Las Vegas where prominent resorts signage as been preserved and is on display. Here is the link for additional info: www.neonmuseum.org/
They actually do have a mise I’m dedicated to old neon signs.
@@VegasTvNewsScrapbook except the Dunes, apparently
My childhood gone why i left
One way to get rid of bed bugs I suppose 🙃
😂😂
When I saw this on a news headline on TV, at first I thought it was a technology building that accidentally collapsed. And when I saw this coverage years later, it then hit me. It was actually the implosion of the Stardust hotel.
It became nothing but shattered memories
The lighting, the coordination of the fireworks the display design. The best demolition since the dunes.
17:38 Implosion
btw we're doing this at night and there's dust on the ground and there's stars at the top I think we have a match!
Why did the Stardust close down I want that to come back to come back
it didnt make money by the end, also it would have been gone in 2010 because of the recession
Can’t believe that they built that stupid resorts world

This was exactly 10 years ago today, that's odd, and sad.
turtwig86 A lot has changed hasn't it?
Considering they could have let stay open another 10 years. There's nothing sitting on the property at all
@House Keeper how so? I know there was nothing there
now there is something on the property! they bought and finished the Echelon project and it's now open as Resorts World!

can you guys tell me why they close since it is my first trip in vegas
One of the reasons is age sadly, felt it was "too old" to renevate/money purposes. Also Steve Wynn taking over
@@colleenflattery4755 do you know what are they building now,i still remember when i first time to go there with my family in 2002 also the time I move to Canada

Horizon zero dawn brought me here
1964 and 1990 towers imploded
One of the many stupid things that has happened to Vegas since the corporate ass holes took over. They should have rebuilt the Stardust and kept the legend going.
Don't recycle all those slot machines should have been taken out and given away if not auctioned off or recycled SHAME!!! Waste not right at all
