The NY Concert really got him when the audience started singing with him, that was an incredible and emotional performance, he was wiping away tears. I don’t think that he realized that even coming to America, the audience would all sing with him. It was his dream, I wish that I had been there, but next time I plan on being there, hopefully with you guys ❤.

Dimash doesn't consider himself a multi-instrumentalist. He feels like he'd need to put in the same work as his singing to be considered one. 😄 He has instruments from all over the world thanks to Dears.
He sang this on "The Singer", wanting to bring Kazakh music to the world. And now millions are singing in Kazakh, his dream. 😊

Family reunion is how I have described his concerts, from what I have seen, everyone filled with so my love, people of all age’s from all over the world coming together and singing in various languages with Dimash, I believe that these are his favorite moments, and it does have to be surreal for everyone. He is uniting with his music, and it’s wonderful, look at the relationships that you have developed with the Dear’s and you’re Dear’s, it’s so heart warming.
As others have mentioned its a Dombra and a very common Kazakh instrument they all are taught to play while young. If you watch (or when you react) to the MV he just premiered today in honor of his 29th birthday called "Omir", you'll see him as a toddler sitting on the floor "kinda" strumming one ❤🤗❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️. Daididau is about the composition of Magzhan Zhumabayev, an exponent of Kazakh literature. When in 1928 he was sent to prison, and later sent to camps in North Karelia, Russia, Zuleikha his wife followed him, no matter where he was taken, she always found him and came to see him everywhere. She went to great lengths to get him released from prison in 1936, even asking the famous writer Maxim Gorky for help. During his prison term, Zhumabayev received the lying news that his wife had abandoned him, so Daididau was written as a lament for the lost love and suffering of the nation. But contrary to what he thought, outside his wife worked hard for his freedom and in 1934 his sentence was reduced and he returned to his home. Unfortunately, Magjan Jumabay was detained again in 1938 and executed on the 19th March of the same year.
Dimash is a very proud Kazakh and this song is so special to him because is a traditional song and he dreamt about singing it before a large audience to show his culture and his country to the world. During his Bastau concert he was almost in tears. The instrumentation is beautiful, the dombra is the instrument he plays in the intro., every Kazakh has one in his home and Dimash’s grandfather is a master of dombra. Dimash loves traditional music and incorporates Kazakh instruments in many songs such as Samaltau version for the Tokio Jazz Festival
The dombyra (домбыра) is a lute-style instrument. It is an ancient and quintessential piece of Kazakh culture and identity. In its most popular form, the dombyra has two-strings strung down a long, skinny neck and a pear-shaped body, flat at the front and rounded on the backside. The dombyra is, in fact, so important to Kazakh national identity that there is a popular saying: “Naǵyz qazaq qazaq emes, naǵyz qazaq - dombyra” (Нағыз қазақ қазақ емес, нағыз қазақ - домбыра), which, translated, means “A real Kazakh is not a Kazakh, a real Kazakh is a dombra.” 💙💛🔝🌹🌹❤️🎤👏👏👏

Домбра (каз. домбыра) - казахский народный двухструнный щипковый музыкальный инструмент. Также является народным инструментом у ногайцев. Применяется в качестве аккомпанирующего и сольного, а также основного инструмента в казахской народной музыке. Используется многими современными исполнителями.
Корпус домбры имеет грушевидную форму и длинный гриф, разделённый ладами. Две струны обычно настроены в кварту или квинту.
Одним из величайших домбристов является казахский народный музыкант и композитор Курмангазы, оказавший большое влияние на развитие казахской музыкальной культуры, в том числе и - музыки на домбре: его музыкальная композиция «Адай» популярна в Казахстане и за рубежом. Именно эту композицию исполняет Димаш на всех своих сольных концертах, показывая виртуозное владение этим уникальным народным инструментом.
В оркестре казахских народных инструментов присутствует также контрабас-домбра, предложенная профессором Ахметом Жубановым. В его честь был назван университет, в котором учился Димаш.
Домбра - самый популярный казахский музыкальный инструмент, который есть практически в каждом доме. Казахи с раннего детства учатся играть на домбре, осваивая традиционные напевы и мелодии, которые называются - кюй.
Музыкальные инструменты, подобные домбре, есть не только у казахов, этот инструмент имеет свои аналоги у других народов. В русской культуре есть схожий по форме инструмент - домра, в таджикской культуре - Думрак, в узбекской культуре - Думбыра, Думбрак, в туркменской культуре - Дутар, Баш, Думбыра, в башкирской культуре - Думбыра, в ногайской культуре приазовья - Домбыра, в азербайджанской и турецкой культуре - Саз, в якутской - Таҥсыр. Отличаются эти инструменты иногда количеством струн (до 3 струн), а также по материалу струн (нейлон, металл).
ДОМБРА - ИНСТРУМЕНТ КЮЯ
Для казахов кюй - больше чем произведение, это звучащая страница истории своего народа, его обычаев и культуры. Поэтому казахи так высоко ценили исполнителей кюев - кюйши, среди которых домбристы составляли подавляющее большинство (кюи исполняются не только на домбре). В казахском народе говорят: «Нағыз қазақ - қазақ емес, нағыз қазақ - домбыра!», что означает «настоящий казах это не сам казах, настоящий казах - домбра!». Тем самым указывая на важность умения играть на домбре для каждого казаха, что подчеркивает особую любовь казахов к этому инструменту.
КОНСТРУКЦИЯ
Длина домбры составляет 80-130 см. Лады могут быть навязными, врезными, или, как у узбекской домры, отсутствовать совсем.
Шанак - корпус домбры, выполняет роль усилителя звука.
Какпак - дека домбры. Воспринимая посредством вибрации звуки струн, усиливает их и придаёт определённую окраску звучанию инструмента - тембр.
Пружина - это балка на деке с внутренней стороны. В казахской домбре пружины раньше не было. У домбры сейчас для улучшения звука аналогичная пружина крепится в верхней части панциря и возле подставки. Как правило, она изготовляется из ели с выдержкой в несколько десятилетий без признаков гнили.
Порожки - разъединяют «клавиши» на домбре.
Обечайки изготавливаются из клёна.
Подставка (тиек) - очень ответственный функциональный элемент домбры. Передавая колебания струн на деку и создавая первый резонансный контур на пути распространения колебаний от струн к корпусу, подставка является подлинным ключом к звучанию домбры. От её качеств, формы, веса и настройки зависят сила, ровность и тембр звучания инструмента.
Струна - источник звуковых колебаний домбры. На домбре традиционно использовались жильные струны, изготавливаемые из бараньих или козьих кишок. Но наиболее подходящей по звучанию оказалась обычная рыболовная леска. Как результат сегодня мы имеем единственный, широко распространённый вид домбры стандартной формы со струнами из лески, утративший неповторимый тембр звучания.
"Легенда о добре". Казахстанский фольклор о национальном музыкальном инструменте - домбре. Рассказывает притчу Димаш, мини фильм транслируется на огромных экранах на сцене во время концерта.
"Прекрасный кюй, будто образ печали и радости, томления и тоски обыкновенного человека. Волшебный кюй, словно вала, переливающаяся волнами разнообразных чувств; то пугает, как чёрный ураган, то услаждает душу, унося её в райские выси. Одним из уникальных кюев казахов, во время звучания которого даже лебеди спускаются на землю, считается Аксак кулан ( Хромой кулан).
Должно быть немного найдётся тех, кто не знает легенду кюя "Аксак кулан".
Как-то раз во время охоты сын Чингисхана Джучи стал беспощадно убивать диких быстроногих куланов. Внезапно появился Хромой кулан, не боявшийся даже стаи волков, набросился и убил молодого ханзаду, что целился в него. Хан, сердце которого словно предчувствовало беду, заявил всем, что зальёт расплавленный свинец в горло тому, кто осмелится придти к нему с недоброй вестью. Все знали о гибели молодого хана, но никто не решался сообщить об этом его отцу. И тогда пришёл поэт Кетбуга и упал перед ханом на колени. Из его двуструнной домбры кюйши зазвучал грустный мотив. Кюй, льющийся из домбры, рассказывал, как его сын, совсем ещё юный, случайно погиб во время охоты.
Сердце старого хана обливалось кровью от горя, понимая, что Кетбуга передаёт ему печальное послание на языке кюя. Он приказал залить горячий свинец в домбру, которая принесла ему дурные вести о смерти сына. Говорят, именно после этого в домбре образовалось отверстие. С тех пор прошло много времени. Но легенда о грозном хане, великом кюйши и могучей домбре, которая была незаслуженно наказана, путешествовала по Великой степи и передавалась из века в век."
The real story behind this extraordinary beautiful song is very sad, written by a Kazakh poet executed by Russians in 1938.
Regarding Dimash talent with instruments, he said in an interview that if we cut his veins, we would see music instead of blood: we can feel it in all his performances, vocal or instrumental. And in addition to his insane skills, we can feel that each time, in each performance, he gives everything to the audience, he literally gives us his soul, his heart: this is why he has a so strong connection with his fans. There are a multitude of singers. A lot of them are very good. Some of them are excellent. A few among them, there are rare exceptional. And there is Dimash, far beyond everything we have known so far. He is stratospheric, an absolute genius.

Hi Guys, great reactions to both ... I have just watched Fly Away and this back to back, this must have been a masterpiece of a concert, in his home country as well!! That 'guitar' is the Dombra, national instrument of Kazakhstan, only two strings and his played by strumming the strings and scratching on the base plate, his dad and grandad both play and so does Mansur. He always plays Dombra at his concerts, he has played since he was 3 or 4 yrs old. In fact if you watch his new video 'Omir' (life) released today hes looking back at his life and there are a couple shots on there where he his strumming at about 18months/2yrs old. 👍👍😊😊

👉 ADAI is popular in Kazakhstan and is composed by one of the greatest dombra players, the Kazakh folk musician and composer Kurmangazy Sagyrbayuly (1823-1896)
The Dombra is a folk musical instrument widely used in Central Asia. It is made of wood and has a pear-shaped body with a long neck (only in Kazakhstan with frets) to which two gut strings are attached.
The dombra can be rightly called the queen of Kazakh instruments since the XIX-th century. Dombra can be met in each yurta; it was referred to as one the most necessary and obligatory things in the life of Kazakhs.
One of the greatest dombra players was the Kazakh folk musician and composer Kurmangazy Sagyrbayuly, who had a great influence on the development of Kazakh music culture, his musical composition 'ADAIi' is popular in Kazakhstan and abroad.
Although Kazakh musical instruments resemble those belonging to other tribes of the Central Asian ethnic group, they have their peculiarities dictated by national traditions. Today the dombra is a national symbol of the Kazakhs and Dimash said every Kasacian child learns this instrument.
In many legends the heroes of successfully made use the ability to 'communicate without words:
'In spite of his father's prohibition the khan's son secretly went hunting. He met a herd of kulans and wounded the leader. Infuriated, Lame Kulan killed the youth with a stroke of the hoof. After waiting in vain for the return of his son from hunting, the khan declared that anyone who approached him with that estirtu (bad news) would be executed by pouring molten lead into the mouth. No one dared for a long time until an old dombrist (a person who plays the dombra) attempted. The sorrowful tune of the kyui was able to send this tragic message across to the khan. He ordered that the molten lead be poured into the dombra. That was how the opening in the upper sounding board of this musical instrument came about.
DAIDIDAU is a poem written in prison by Maghzhan Zhumabayev.
Thanks to the great performance of Dimash Kudaibergen in 2017 (The Singer). Daididau is now the most famous Kazakh song in the world. (Dimash's stage costume is based on the traditional Kazakh coat, called Shapan.)
The true story: The poet Maghzhan Zhumabayev was in prison in Stalingrad (now Petersburg/Russia) and had just been informed that his wife had left him. This song was his answer. He named his wife Daididau (it could be derived from 'дедім айдай ау' - the moon-like one.) It was false information, a way to torture him and others arrested for conspiracy. Also through Gorky's (a famous Russian writer) intercession, Zhumabayev was released. He saw his wife again, but only for a short time. He was executed by the Stalin regime in 1938.
The widow secretly collected all his poems. (They were banned until 1989).
This song was first used in the Kazakh-Soviet film 'Shanyrak' directed by Edige Bolysbayev and thus became known and very important for the Kazakh people.
