Friends is one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time. Even 25 years after it premiered, it’s still a go-to binge for people everywhere. That doesn’t mean Friends didn’t include a mistake or two. Over 10 seasons, there were bound to be some inconsistencies, plot holes, and errors. In this video, we’re counting down some of the biggest mistakes on Friends.
The mistakes we’re talking about include plot holes involving Chandler’s ability to cry, Phoebe’s ability to speak French, whether Ross likes ice cream or not, and why Rachel and Chandler seem to have no memory of each other when they meet in the pilot. We’re also looking at some mysteries like how does the lock on Monica’s apartment door work, what’s the last name of that guy Rachel almost married, how is Rachel’s last name spelled, and where is Monica’s apartment. Finally we’ll look at some continuity errors like the times Monica and Rachel were replaced and that other time when Phoebe managed to be two places at once.
Some of these mistakes are real head-scratchers. In the end though, they don’t take anything away from the fun of Friends. However, they may give you something extra to look for on your next re-watch. - Krátké a kreslené filmy

For Rachel's name - it seems in the context of the show it is 'Greene' - it's very common when you order anything at the store or over the phone and tell them your name, that it is misspelled by the staff there. Honestly her name being 'Green' on the cake box feels more legit than an continuity issue lol.
I agree. I've had my name misspelled on food delivery many times.
And did anyone notice this? - the narrator of this video says (at 8:32) that “Ross goes with this spelling (Greene) when he sends a wedding invitation to his wedding to Rachel.” Duh, it’s his wedding to Emily.
Point is, you can find thousands of mistakes and I'll still think this is the best show in television.

One of the biggest plot holes (which I never really see anyone mention) is on the outside shots of the apartment, you can never see the famous balcony they have. You could just say it may just be on the other side of the building, but in the episode where Rachel throws all of Palos clothes from the balcony because he cheats, the clothes fall down the same side of the outside shot of the building, however it still isn’t visible.

You missed a big one: Ross and Rachel’s “first kiss” wasn’t their first kiss. In an earlier episode he goes with her to the laundry mat and she kisses him. AAAND Ross thought he kissed Rachel at a college party but it was Monica… sooo a couple loop holes there 😂
Do they refer to the coffee house kiss as their first kiss? I remember them saying they kissed but never that it was the first

The one thing that bugged me is that in the last season, when Rachel says she is going to Paris and bringing Emma with her, Ross says nothing about his daughter being brought away (tough, he didn't want to move to England because he didn't want to be away from Ben)

I don't think anybody was ever confused about how Monica could afford the apartment...it was established in the show that it was her grandmother's.

It has always bothered me why in the first season Rachel doesn’t seem to know who Chandler is but later on we get to see that they did actually meet on several occasions while in the flashbacks.

A HUGE one you missed was Monica's wedding dress changed. She tried on a dress in the pricey boutique, then fought over what she called "her dress" in the bargain sale scene which was a completely different dress, then later tried her dress on at home and it was the dress she had tried on in the boutique first.
Emily’s wedding dress changed too. Monica picked it up (and wore it), but then the dress Emily wears to the wedding is totally different.
@@TheKmcannon You're right. ✔ and I remember reading somewhere awhile back (maybe on IMDb?) that the reason why Emily's wedding dress changed was because Helen Baxendale (the actress who played Emily) was pregnant *in-real-life* in the episode where she & Ross got married, & she could no longer fit into the dress that Monica had picked up & tried on.
It also said that the 'Emily' storyline was _supposed to be_ longer than what it was, but the writers had to shorten it because of Helen's pregnancy.

she had to give the dress she fought over back bc the girl who was fighting with her booked the swing kings on her wedding night. in order for her to get the swing king she wanted the dress back.

The one that gets me the most is Rachel telling the Yeti dude that she doesn't sail, and then later teaches Joey to sail when he buys the boat, saying she's sailed her entire life.

Has anyone noticed this : in season 5 episode 5 opening scene, Joey walks in on Chandler and Monica and then goes to the bathroom, then when Chandler opens the bathroom door he has fallen asleep on the "toilet".
In this scene the toilet is right in front of the door, but all other shots of the bathroom shows it being on the right side which can't be directly seen from outside when the door is open.

Funny, I always thought that Phoebe teaching Joey to speak French was a joke. Like it was something she barely knew better than Joey but that she was sure she could teach Joey just enough to make other people believe he was fluent in the language.

Probably my favorite show of all time and always will be. Not just because of the nostalgia but I just genuinely love everything about it. There isn't a single season or episode I don't like. That right there is the perfect series...

Phoebe learned how to speak French when she was a teenager on the streets in a “club” behind a dumpster. I’m just guessing she was nervous around him since he was a love interest.
The one that's hilarious to me is in the e.r. with Rachel. Monica keeps asking for anther form while she's holding a big pencil with an eraser!

What I'm always amazed at is that people can be visiting Monica's restaurant kitchen, casually walking in, but as anyone who works in a kitchen knows you have to wear a hair-net in food prep areas. Especially people like Phoebe with long hair. Even Monica doesn't always have her hair up and in the hat.
Yeah, remember the inspector(Phoebe was retracted to & dated), asked Monica where her hat was & she said in the kitchen, which he could have dinged her for, entering her kitchen without a head covering, but Phoebe & Janice both came in bare-headed, if you will.

That one is easily debunked, it's not that hard to imagine she might have not realised 'sous' in that context comes from the French word, even if she did know the word.
I can't find the episode where she says it - but learning french can also mean kissing.. and learning it behind a dumpster and knowing Pheobe I think it is the last one

I’ve noticed most of these over the years, the apartment number, the backdrop of across the street, the flexible birthdays, but others in this video are easier to explain. Phoebe might know French but was trying to flirt with Tim, cos I can think of several examples where she speaks French. The door thing could be explained by the door usually being on a latch, and that latch clicking shut. This has actually happened to me! Chandlers crying can be explained by the fact he’s quite in touch with his feminine side so he’s portrayed as trying to seem emotionally stunted, when he really isn’t. Ben can be explained by the fact that he might go to see him, and they have blown all the budget on their salaries! Rachel’s surname can be explained by people getting spellings wrong. It’s pretty common in real life. But as for the rest of the video, yeah, there are a few mistakes. But hey, they’re only human. Even the scriptwriters.

I have one. The STORAGE DOOR near the balcony. When Rachel and Phoebe are looking for Monica's Christmas gifts they open the storage door and check it for gifts but few episodes later, where Monica hides her messiness in that closet, Chandler and Joey say that they've always checked the door and it was always locked ever since he has moved in and that they had always wondered what's behind it.
Rachel was taking down the Christmas lights while they were still on (plugged in).
But seriously when we watched the episodes when they aired on TV, we paid attention to the dialogue and the characters. No one really bothered about these small errors!
In season 1 Joey talks about how he dated a girl with an Adam’s apple, but in later seasons Joey calls it a joeys apple and didn’t know it wasn’t named after that person.
Maybe her name was Adam

I think one of the beauties of Friends is that although there was a loose thread tying it all together...it was genius that they made each episode a story in itself...without background. THAT to me, is perfect. You can watch any episode, and each one is a complete story in itself. Background stuff is helpful, but you can still enjoy a single episode without it.
Another thing that never ceases to amaze me, is how 'un-obvious' it is to date it. I'm always amazed to remember how old the episode is...but it never feels dated.
It's Greene. The person making the entries in IMDB might not have known and I actually think having the box with the cake spell it "Green" makes sense as the bakery probably just put what they heard during the order on the phone.

In one episode of first season, she said something about her grandmother and her boyfriend being loud in their room. So she couldn’t sleep, and was actually sleeping in the coffee house. Probably that’s why.
As for phoebe not knowing what sue means in french.. well, the guy was talking in English, so one tiny prefix in French could easily go unnoticed. Let alone, it was a "kitchen jargon" she couldn't have been familiar with so I don't think this "mistake" can be classified as one..

If I remember correctly, that was in Rachel’s daydream when she was driving her old friends home. I recall one of them saying, “Rach, you missed the exit! What were you thinking about?” To which Rachel replied “Barry.” She was actually thinking about having a one night stand with no strings attached. But that’s if you are referring to the whole one night stand thing. But Chandler overheard her saying she wanted a one night stand and ‘accidentally’ dropped a pool ball. That chance of Rachel remembering her short conversation with Chandler has the same chance as her remembering where Monica keeps the dust pan!😂

The apartment use to be Monica's and Ross' Grandma's apartment. She had it for year and It was on rent control, They mention that on the last episode "Because of rent control this apartment was a steal" when Chandler is talking to the babies.
3:35 They used stand-ins for those shots because most consumers had a 4:3 TV back then, or "fullscreen", whereas now almost every TV is a 16:9, or "widescreen". Once they released the remasters we got to see loads of stuff off to the side that the showrunners never expected anyone to see. Same reason there used to be a different disc for each aspect ratio of a film.
The whole “Green” “Greene” thing. When Rachel orders Emma’s cake under her last name, I’m sure the bakery just thought it was “Green”, not “Greene”

The one where Monica opens the wedding gifts. Every time they change angles, some gifts are wrapped again, even after they've been unwrapped! Hahaha
And still I cry, to watch it all over again. One of the best television show ever in television♥️

One of the fan theories is that she actually had a secret affair with Paolo and picked up some Italian.
The one with Monica and Rachel "being replaced" is easily explained. Back then, the format was technically filmed in widescreen, but edited and broadcasted in 4:3 because that was the TV standard at the time (even the first DVD release was still in 4:3 if I remember correctly). Hence producers often used "unofficial" takes when they fitted better. Many times, when only one actor should redo a line, it was filmed opposite a random person just to get that one shot. Didn't matter because the counterpart was "lost" in the editing room. Only when this show get reworked to HD, they restored the widescreen footage from the original film and hence some of this slipped in. But monica had to be careful because the Super or Downstairs neighbor (I cant remember which) threatened to get her evicted for illegal subletting.

it's not really a mistake, they just showed him. They didn't know each other, her father left her mom and her when she was a baby before her mom killed herself, and they haven't seen each other since. Her father started a new family. Pheobe's brother is just there, but they don't know each other since they've never met. Then, when they actually meet as family, they don't remember each other since when they first ever met, it wasn't a memorable moment. To sum up, it wasn't a mistake, they just showed him there.

Chandler hates Thanksgiving food because of his parents splitting. But in the episode where everyone arrives late to Thanksgiving he's more than happy to be involved in the cooking process AND is seen eating Thanksgiving food with the rest of the gang when Monica and Ross are outside hugging the football in the episode where they all play football.
Friends, even with everything discussed here, was an AWESOME show. I have binge watched all seasons twice and after the first time through I watched the Reunion that they did a couple of years ago. And then I watched “Chandler’s” recent interview, discussing his alcohol and drug addictions. What an amazing actor to still be functional through all that was happening in his personal life. My hat is off to him and his co-stars. And I wish him nothing but good in his fight to maintain sobriety and for being so upfront and transparent now.
There is another HUGE mistake , Ross mentions that carol was the first woman he had ever slept with and that he was a virgin before that ,however after few seasons Chandler reminds him that he slept with the lady who cleaned their dorm in college! So was his fist time with carol or not ?

There's an episode where Phoebe complains that it's February, and she's only had two massage clients who were terrible tippers. Who were Monica and Ross. A few seasons later, Phoebe walks in on Monica getting a massage and complains about how she never let Phoebe massage her.

One thing about the door changing, is in one episode they need to have there door replaced when Joey and the others broke in when she was gone because they didn't have keys. I always thought that was the reason the number changed, but this makes more sense.
Maybe Phoebe speaks French and she just pretended not to to flirt with the chef. Maybe Ross doesn't like ice cream but he endures it to hide his insecurity about hating ice cream. Maybe everyone knows about joey's hugsy but the secret was his very childhood like relationship with hugsy.
The Rachel "Greene" mistake can be easily broken down:
1. IMDB: human error by whoever made the entry (IMDB data is not official data entered by someone who actually worked on the show)
2. Rachel's name on the door: correct, Greene (done on purpose since since her office would know how to spell her name for the nameplate)
3. Rachel's name on the envelope: correct, Greene (also done on purpose since of course Ross would know how to spell Rachel's last name)
4. Rachel's name on the cake box: incorrect because it was written by the cake makers and they could have easily assumed there wasn't an "E" at the end when Rachel ordered the cake

its because Emma was going to stay with Ross most of the time, but she would be flown to Paris by the people who offered Rachel a job so she could see her. They say it when Rachel first tells Ross about the offer.
