- 1967 Johnson 3hp Folder outboard purchased on Ebay. Will replace the carry handles on both sides of cowl because they are broken.
- Cleaned and set the points with the timing fixture.
- Check the coil for good primary wire and secondary wire continuity.
- Change the spark plug wires. (7mm copper core wire and not the auto stuff.)
- Clean the carburetor and only had to replace the high speed nozzle gasket with 201B oring. Replaced the packing on the low speed/idle circuit needle. Removed and cleaned the high speed jet with carburetor cleaner and compressed air only.
- replaced the impeller and gear oil. (80-90wt marine gear oil)
- compression when I first got it was 75psi upper and lower. I will run fuel mix and seafoam to decarb the pistons rings to see if compression will go up a little more. 75psi is still good compression for this motor.
Enjoy.
Setting ignition timing with a timing fixture on Evinrude, Gale and Johnson motors. Using a timing fixtures is a little less cumbersome than using film gauge and it gets the timing spot on for better idling and running of the motor. This is how the pros do it.
I am not the maker of these timing fixtures, but I will gladly give you the information.

Nice motor. I have a 1963 just like it. Mine does not run as well as yours. I may have to check the ignition and carb.
wow. that was a great find. that fuel cap was spinning like a top when you reved it.

Thanks. I had the fuel cap on loose because the vent hole was clogged and I needed to clean it out.
That little motor runs smoothly and idles to a crawl. Those are great little motors! Thanks for watching!
I have the same engine, have it running great. Now I want to repaint it but can't find the color for the lower unit.
that's a beauty
Thanks, waiting for the handles for cowls and I will slowly work on repairing the storage case.
Cheers,
David
Thanks, I will bring her along on trips for back up if needed. The case keeps it nice and compact and protected.
