I'm confused -going thru something similar and heard that cleaner will not move through an expansion valve which is why people drill out this valve blocks so fluid can pass and then they install a new expansion valve. Would be nice to throw a magnet in the drain bottle to see how much metal debris might come out as well.

My instructions on the new compressor said flush the evaporator and expansion valve or warranty won't be covered. I'm sure the engineers know more than I do as an automotive technician.

I like the magnet Idea, so a new expansion valve would be ideal, I have a video for the replacement as well. Good luck with the repairs and service.

@@jaygames1980 , great I would much prefer to not attempt to access my expansion valve which is buried deep in my dash!

Your videos are excellent. I greatly appreciate your honesty and your insights.
I have the exact same vehicle. Is there an AC kit 'brand' or type of compressor that you recommend?
From online comments, all CRVs from that era had the "black death" compressor, so there are a ton of complete AC replacement kits out there. The problem is some of them seem like cheap garbage. I have not been able to find anyone who recommends one brand or type over another. I cannot afford OEM Honda. I am hoping you have some comments or recommendations about Honda CRV AC replacement kits for that era CRV.

So as for recommending brand, the best would be OEM you mentioned. Maybe try going through EBay to get a Honda Compressor, if you can find one you could probably save a lot of money that way.

So you only flushed the lines going to and from the evaporator? What about the rest of the lines going to the compressor and condenser? Did you flush those lines before installing the new compressor and condenser?

So I would definitely recommend disconnecting the necessary components and flushing the system in its entirety. The video was intended to demonstrate the process.

@@FlipAutoXperts I see, thanks. When you did the flush shown in the video, did you do it with the expansion valve still installed and with it not drilled out to force a passage way? Does the flush solution actually pass through the expansion valve and reach the evaporator if it isn't drilled out? I've heard some people say that the valve doesn't open unless there is refrigerant and the line is pressurized, so you have to drill out the part of the expansion valve that keeps it closed, reinstall it, then flush the evaporator through the expansion valve, then remove the drilled-out expansion valve and install a brand new one. Is that what you did, or does the expansion valve on the CR-V allow the flush to pass through as-is? Thanks for your help.

@@ddrigmaiden great question, I flushed the lines with a new expansion valve still installed and connected, the flush went the the evaporator without and issues.

Thanks. I'm going to try it with the old expansion valve and see if the flush passes through it.

      Should work out just fine.
