I work as a care worker in a Dementia care home in Norwich England and can't wait to see this movie. The trailer and scenes make me feel so emotional and a year in my eyes .To see people on a daily basis struggle with even simple things is tough and we do everything possible to help them feel as normal as possible. This movie will definitely pull at the hearts strings of everyone I'm sure and hopefully make people appreciate life and be nice to others

This movie played like a horror movie for me, it’s so disorienting and really puts you in the mindset of someone that has this. It really opens my mind to how unnerving living with this can be, really makes me empathize to those who live with it and their loved ones. (Also surprised by how funny some of the moments were, you’ll definitely laugh then a second later tear up.)

This movie was such an amazing movie......for all of us caring with loved ones with dementia/Alzheimer’s..which tears your heart out...he was I incredible........most people just say oh he has demenis, blah, blah,.............what is happening in these diseases is that. HIS BRAIN IS ACTUALLY SHRINKING ....THATS WHY THESE THINGS HAPPEN. I am a 24/7 caregiver to my brilliant husband, watching the changes in his behavior and his need for help with the most simple of tasks just rips my heart out. He is aware that he is forgetting but I never la el it. Yes he needs help dressing and showering, taking his pills he has taken for years, events mean nothing to him anymore, but he is so sweet........ when I look in her eyes while feeling so sad and scared is so familiar.........Anthony and Olivia where brilliant. It broke my heart.....there is always fear lingering inside of me, knowing this is it, my life has stopped as well......no more fun travels together, celebrations that he remembers, that’s another symptom, if I tell him she omething. It
R is gone right away.....it is torture for the caregiver as well. My dear husbands doctor has told me I suffer with caregiver stress. But I love him so much I will never let him go anywhere. Prayers to all carding and suffering with this sad, heartbreaking disease.

Loved this review. I thought this movie was disturbing, disorienting (the term the reviewers used), and just downright difficult to digest -- only because it so honestly and accurately portrays (via subtle editing and production design not to mention really brilliant acting) how I imagine my mother's late stage dementia manifests in her head--- and my own overwhelming confusion and doubt regarding what's true and real. I watched it 5 times in one weekend because it was so brilliant. .

The production design and editing of this movie is masterful. I echo the comment that says this movie plays like a horror movie at times, which is particularly pronounced in the sequence around the dinner table - how that conversation just loops itself from different perspective. Also later when the hallways of the apartment becomes the doctor's clinic's reception as well as the hospital at the end. I now understand why this movie is recognized in the production set categories!

Love the actors. Love great filmmaking. My wonderful husband has dementia due to his advanced Parkinsons. I’m his caregiver. No way can I watch this.

Have not yet seen the Father. But AGAIN its a fascinating commentary on this movie. Because a movie I liked from last year HORSE GIRL (on Netflix) was doing a similar thing with perspective. With a really phenomenal lead performance (in a just world Alison Brie would be up for best actress). From what I hear THE FATHER is a better movie, but HORSE GIRL got pretty polarizing critical opinions and The Father is getting universal raves.
So fascinating to think about. Can't wait to see this movie tho, and GREAT REVIEW.

Sounds intriguing. The director, editor and screen writer(s) have made a story by an unreliable narrator into what sounds like, a mystery movie. The subject of dementia is a bit triggering for me so as good as this film sounds, I doubt that I will view this movie. Were it on a streaming service to which I am subscribed, I might give it a chance. As of this post, it is not "free" for me.

I kind of thought a movie starring Anthony Hopkins called "The Father" would be a sequel to "The Rite."

Who would want to grow old?!?? Seriously. Having to deal with Alzheimer’s, dementia, broken hips, falling and Having to be in a wheelchair and bathing, showering yourself (if you live by yourself) going to the toilet 🚽, cooking and eating 🍽 for yourself WHILE in a wheelchair, remembering which medication to take and when, being too weak to take care of yourself everyday, etc. And then there’s cancer, and world of other illnesses.
    It’s a nightmare. Except it’s not.
This could ALL be prevented, if you would just STOP having children. So those children wouldn’t have to grow old and face all the problems in their old age. Really, you’re not doing them any favors by having them. If you truly love your kids, DON’T HAVE THEM.
Just Don’t. 99.99% of the world’s problems could be solved by just NOT HAVING CHILDREN.

ANOTHER dementia movie? Really? Who is the audience for these? They keep reviewing art house movies these days and there are other kinds of films. They have yet to review Greenland or Monster Hunter, the kind of mass audience films people actually want to see.

    • @MrChaseBlue
      @MrChaseBlue Před 3 lety +13

Well this is for sure an Oscar film, so there’s definitely an audience for this.

Populations, especially boomers, are getting older. Things we didn't spend one minute of time on now become part of our waking thoughts and fears. In other words, if not now, when? When would there be an audience for these types of movies. The answer is now.

They also DO review movies in theaters normally, but they’re all based in LA, where theaters were closed for those two films. When they came out, they didn’t get screeners and ergo didn’t watch them.
They normally do watch blockbusters too, just bear with them during covid and quit the negative comments.
