In terms of Manufacturer Specific Racing Games, Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed is a great example of how to properly represent a specific Car Manufacturer as a video game. Games like Corvette by TDK and maybe even the Ford Racing Series by Razorworks aren't as nearly as fun as NFS: Porsche Unleashed. Majority of the Manufacturer specific Racing Games are cheap budget titles that lack the content and variety Porsche Unleashed offers. Another great example could be Viper Racing.
I myself enjoyed Corvette (game by TDK) and Viper Racing, thanks to Kuru for reintroducing me to Viper Racing

Razorworks did couple of interesting games, Total Immersion Racing for example, and while it was kind of enjoyable and had decent graphics it didn't suck me in as NFS Porsche did. This game holds special place in my heart. Not even Most Wanted/Carbon did that, even though I played both and enjoyed them. Both games are great too!
I would say that Mercedes Benz World Racing is a honorable Mention.
Ford Mustang: The Legend Lives by Eutechnyx had a lot of potential and was just... so sorely disappointing.
I was so young when I played this on a pentium 4, I still remember I didn't know english very well, so I drove the first car in evolution mode for a couple of races, then I noticed I've become slower, than the ai, so I gave up and I was angry. I didn't know there were upgrades, at all. :)))

Oversight or freaking brilliant, is the question. There's a whole market behind refurbishing beat up classic cars that exists to this day. It's a lot more expensive to do these days thanks to increasing rarity of parts and inflation, but it's definitely still around.

Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legend exists, isn't the best or most polished game but I had fun playing it. Porsche Unleashed however is still superior, way ahead of it's time and the vast amount of intractable and realistic elements in the game blew my kid self's minds.
There's also World Racing which only had Mercedes cars. I haven't played it in ages but remember having good fun playing it back in the day.
All the Ford gamed, even that Ford Vs Chevy thing.
There was also ah uh... its really hard, there were quite a few single manufacturer games, but its just really hard to think of them when half of them were bloody Ford games.
True, Ford did have "a few" racing games under them. I wish we had more fully fledged serious racing games like Porsche 2000, it is fun going through the history and heritage of a brand and having an equally performing grid of cars with similar specs (and looks).
When I played this game as a kid the interface was so different from High Stakes that I had no idea there was an upgrade system... I literally played the entire game on stock cars and wondered why it was so hard at times.
I played this on the PS1 and absolutely loved it. This is the game what got me into gaming, this is the game what made me love cars, this is my favorite NFS. I still come back to this game time to time just to experience my youngself again.
13:00 as a little kid this course was really difficult. because at the time I was not very good at speaking english and the challenge has a manual transmission set to it so i did not get why i couldn't move and thought this was it for the factory driver. but after coming back after a nostalgia call, I downloaded the game and beat the factory driver a few days ago. even if you know the objective, the last 360 of the challenge was a bit buggy because no matter how perfect you are, the 360 just didn't count.

My guess is that you have to start and finish the 360 stunt within the zone marked by the cones on the both sides.
You cannot do start and finish the 360 outside that zone at any point as that does not count.
Kuru, you might not really read this, but my guess is that on the PC many cars were left out because of the 700 MB CD limit, and the game was already 585 MB.
The problem is there are too many unnecessary similar models on pc (namely 356 and 911) where visually they literally just have to swap a badge. My guess would be they don't have enough time to make all the models like 924 917 and so. Notice that 959 and 928 are free dlcs and they arenn't exacctly finished compared to main game cars

Way too many different variants of the 356 and 911 and tbh I would rather have had the 924, 928, 959, 917, GT2, GT3 and such models instead of the bazillion different 356s. Also, some of those are available on the PC as DLCs, as you said, but sometimes adding DLCs can be problematic and they should've just added the cars to the default list.
Also, some variants are not even available in the career mode's showroom, they're exclusively in the used car section. Which is fine tbh but it means you miss out of those cars (some of which weren't even necessary in the first place) and they don't get unlocked for quick race if you don't buy them in career mode.
Back when Need For Speed wasn't Need For Street.

The love and attention to detail that were put into NFS Porsche (PC), from the intricate sound design of all the menus to the wonderful soundtrack and many memorable tracks to race on, never fail to fascinate me. It's truly a masterpiece and will always have a special place in my heart - thanks for the Retrospective, Kuru :)

The first time i play this game in 2008, i couldnt believe this game was released in 2000, really this game looks beautiful even nowadays in my opnion, and the physics are better then a bunch of games released in this generation, i gotta thank this game and the hole nfs series for the love i got to Porsches
I don't even like porshe but this is truly a gem.I still have my original disk tugged away somewhere.
For me its the best need for speed ever even if it was limited to just porsche. Felt well made imo. Also if a part was damaged more than 50% it would be cheaper to replace it rather than fix. Little tip if you wanted to save even more cash

Those were the hardest game missions in the game and is cool that you uncovered those. I finished the game at least three times on a wheel and pedals, those times were the greatest fun. The game is still the best!
Kuru, PPSSPP emulator has revamped the netplay feature. Gran Turismo PSP can now be easily played in multiplayer, I suggest you try that.

Porsche Unleashed had no business being as good as it was and is. Highly underrated title. People just see a single brand and think lack of content. What other game had used car dealerships, tuning, part upgrades, repairing damage, full career mode, full interior views on all models, police cars (sorta police chases...idk sorta still cool tho), an entire autobahn highway, and a Monaco-like GP track in the year 2000? The only thing close to that is Gran Turismo 2.

High Stakes on PS1 is a masterpiece, and its sad that a lot of people dont know about it.
PC version of Porsche is still the best Need For Speed ever released. I've played it numerous times, started right after it's initial release when I was 6 or 7. The game was hard back then and I was completely unaware of the vehicle tuning system. Because of that, my playthrough always finished on 914 Trophy as I couldn't ever finish it. It was making me mad to the point I was dreaming about this game and progressing further, racing 944s, 911s, Carrera RS etc. I might even play it once again but I don't know if you can make pad compatible with it, so driving is smoother?

Almost thought this was Porsche Challenge on PS1. Well its not but still entertaining.
Also, maybe try something like Baja 1000 or Edge of Control. Those are good Arcade racing games.
This is the last of true classic NFS games. That had proper career mode, cockpit camera, detailed car information, damage system that isn't purely cosmetic etc. Next title like that was NFS Shift which was released a decade later.
I liked these late '90s NFS games. They released Hot Pursuit in 1998, then a year later they took it and made it better. High Stakes was basically an expansion to Hot Pursuit that improved almost every aspect of it. The same applied to Porsche 2000 vs High Stakes. It was like release a new game that's similar to the previous one but better in every way. This is a very different thing from current EA releasing the same game that's not better at all, sometimes even worse than their last year rendition of it.
I would love if they did a game that works like Porsche 2000 but this time featuring Ferraris. Or any other brand with rich history and wide variety of car models. Remasters are boring. Diablo II Resurrected is almsot 1:1 remaster of original with better gfx and high fidelidy sfx. That's about it. The game plays the same like it did 15 years ago and this is why I haven't bothered with it. I played enough baal runs and Blood Moor duels in 2000s. It won't surprise me with anything new.
Game cheats a bit when u enter 914 championship. You can buy only 1.7, but Dylan uses 1.8 or 2.0 from the start which is much much faster. And you can never buy these 2 new. Only used.
Once you completed the 917 championship it would show them in the new section also or after 1974 in evo mode. And the 2.0l upgrade made it slower than just 1.7 engine upgrades haha. Effected other cars says the 1300s 356 a the 1600l upgrade made it slower.

I guess 2.0 is slower than tuned 1.7 but still, a small cheat from the game.
@@blackjacket_ I don't think it was ever fixed. I just always remeber seeing a 1.8 and 2.0l in the showroom with the 1973 carrera rs. And yeah the tuned 1.7 would be quicker than a non upgraded 2.0l. The 1.7 with the 2.0l upgrade made it very slow. Must be a glitch the game had

I always preferred the PS1 version cuz nostalgia, but that aside I think the menus and overall feel of the game is better on PS1. The physics were wonky af though.
PS1 version offers both unique menu looks and soundtracks to match the time of each era. There’s even some kind of visual filter or something in the classic era, where all colours are weakened. Tracks and places change as well between eras
It also doesnt have annoying oversteer and/or stiff controls, and doesnt try to copy paste Gran Turismo badly, instead is just a downgraded High stakes. Is the only NFS i prefer on PS1 to be honest.

After playing the PC version i was shocked by how bad the PS1 version of NFS5 was. They just have nothing in common except for music and cars. It's not that i expected the complexity of PC version's physics, but at least something like ridge racer 4.

I managed to play it after so long, in my Mac with the help of Wine.
Sadly, now it's not possible bc it no longer works with the current MacOS.
...but hey I still have my old 2013 Macbook Pro and I am almost certain it still works for that one.
