- •Bobby Bonilla day occurs every year on July 1. Here is the story behind the most notorious contract in baseball history.
•On July 1 of every year from 2011-2035, the New York Mets have and will write a $1.19 million check to former player Bobby Bonilla - even though he hasn’t suited up for the team in the 21st century. “Remember, it's not what you make or what you have. It's what you keep,” said Bonilla's agent, Dennis Gilbert. “Deferred compensation helps you keep your money.”

His agent is the GOAT of all agents!
Other players are like who is this guy?
He sits behind home plate at Dodger stadium every home game.
Prime example of: Don’t hate the player, hate the game.
Or the dumb executive that agrees with the contract
jdelgado216 why you hating?
Probably top 10 greatest sports agent of all time.
Ain't mad at him, we all wish we had a deal like this
Honestly I think if they won the World Series in 2000 with the money they used instead of paying Bobby I think it would have been looked on a little better than it is now
Smart man, got his money deferred and now he is chillin!
SAXMANIVAN so let's put this thing in perspective, he gets his deferred payments every year until 2035, then he gets his pension money from MLB, plus he gets a Social Security check, and he also gets Medicare
john jones yeesssssssss! He worked for it! What’s wrong with it? 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
"Like they say in the hood....'Chilllllin'. " Lol
Canadians celebrate Bobby Bonilla Day.
We call it Canada Day.
And we do get fireworks and a day off from work.
Canada rules. Congrats to the NBA title.
Is another 🇵🇷
I just ran into Bobby at a store yesterday. The most polite, chill, friendly guy I've met. Smart man, too.
Happy Bobby Bonilla Day!
The Bobby bonilla day has truly inspired me to do my own DEFERRED COMP PLAN with my job.
Hope to reap the benefits
I remember this how it all went down back then n now to see it's fruition is priceless.
Dennis Gilbert is that one guy that always sits down in the front row behind home plate at a Dodger Stadium homegame
Leandro Montoya I was wondering if that was him. Looked familiar.
Get that Money Bobby$$$$$$$$$$$$
Salute to Bobby B.... first thing they teach you growing up in the Bx #SECURETHEBAG
Yessir.....
Need to start a gofundme page for the agent. Poor fella looks like he works hard for his clients best interest while rockin a broken old model iphone and tattered suit.
What I’ve learned is that wealthy people don’t spend their money on clothing and phones as much as “regular “ people. They continue to invest their earnings over and over so they never go broke.
Plus the guy looks like he owned the koi pond towards the end. I think he’s doing well for himself.
I wish i could get him to autograph a couple cards and im a OAKLAND A'S fan
I am a Mets fan and I respect the agent for pulling this off 😂
IF YOU MAKE This MUCH MONEY DON'T GET MARRIED.
Yeah just get a girlfriend or buy a strip club
Bobby “Money” Bonilla 💰
"Only the best for the Mets. We only wish we were the Knicks!!!!!" - UrinatingTree, 2019
Bobby is a true hero and his agent is the benchmark of sports agents
To anyone wondering, this is the exact way banks make serious money on student loan debts.
With the banks playing Bobby B, and we the people in the role of the Mets.
Exactly. That's why, if you're able, pay off your student loans early, so they make less money.
Agent of the century
Dan Gilbert is the real MVP
Yo this mans did the right thing he kept the right people close and returned the favor good looking out
S
wow..now that's a power move😆👍👍
Me and my dad always look for Dennis when the Dodgers play.
And I thought the best agent ever was Jerry Maguire
Had he just took the 5.9 million and put it in an index fund he would have 17 million today.
So far, Bonilla has been paid 14.29 Million. Food for thought.
Happy Bobby Bonillia Day 😊✊🏿
Its Booby Bonilla Day! 2020
Wonderful story.
What made it that much worse was how bad he was after signing this contract!
Detroit Pistons paying Josh Smith 3mil and he plays in the big 3.
Awesome !!! Great video !!
Bobby Bo was my favorite Baseball player ! He didn't suck as some of you say ! He was great with the Pirates but going to the Mets and trying to put a team on his shoulders became overwhelming for him especially the high expectations the fans had from Bonilla.. He could have been a much better player if he was able to block out the media and dealing with the fans which have limited patience in N.Y.. Too me he should have had much more than 287 career Homers he was too big and too strong for less than 300 career homers
How much does the agent make of this deal?
Good lol
When i was a kid he was a beast for the pirates lol... I'm 37 now... he's still gonna be getting PAID til 2035? Good for him
Btw George Brett is my uncle but I've never met him
His agent turned 6 million into 50 millon wow
Madonna even wrote a song about him; "La Isla Bonilla".
Great story
The G.O.A.Ts
Can you imagine a recurring payment like that. And to find representation that has your best interest in mind. If only our Congress would be as interested in the well being in those they pretend to represent.
Awesome
It should be Dennis Gilbert day!
I know this guy didn't say that Bobby Bonilla had a big heart, word around the clubhouse as well as off the field was that the man was an absolute jerk
So what, make them bones
Dam good agent
Food for thought, if someone is speaking maybe u should pause the captions at the bottom. Too much going in the vid to keep up with 🤷🏻♂️😂
I bet the agent gets his part every July 1 so he's not complaining either.
Top 10 finesse.
He got pictures on someone
Mr. Met. Spoiler Alert.
Lol the Phillies will be paying Bryce Harper into the next century 😁
Nikolai Yankov roughly $17,000 per game 😀
His agent get 10% as well
Seems fair
Yahoo, buy this man a new phone
get you a Dennis lol
Any other fans get texts from their friends/yankee fans on this day annually ??
Far cry from The Killer Beez
Bonds
Bonilla
Beuchelle
because bobby was smart as shit...deferring doesnt happen anymore
Did you not watch the video they showed a current National player with a deferred contract
💛
It’s also Canada day so like all of Canada is celebrating that day lmao tf
The fans pay
I Almost forgot black guys played baseball once upon a time.😎
So he made an extra $20 million 💵💵💵 on the 🤝!???
Anybody here because of christian Yelich
Old ass phone
It took you more than five minutes just to say that his salary was deferred over many years. Okay.
Have fun buying 1 bag of Cheetos puffs with that 50mm in 25 years
Somebody missed economics 101.
BANK
Damn I hope the Orioles aren't watching this.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahaha.
This is a garbage millennial take on Bobby Bo. Guy was an excellent hitter for most of his career. Any Boomer or GenXer knows who the Killer B's were.
Friggle Dee where do his stats come into this except for that last horrible season
@@heyhoppy539
They're portraying him as some run-of-the-mill player when the guy was a perennial all star.
Friggle Dee they did list off all of his accomplishments
He was bad when he got to the Mets.
@@oMaJoJ
Which time? The 1st time he wasn't.
And God denies me a few lousy dollars.how ironic!.
he sucked so much he got a contract to go away 😂
Aztec MC and still banking for the next few years 😏
Arthur & Arlanah vlogs hes not a rabbit, but he is a vermin, or a leech perhaps. either way he is a blood sucking rat.
This is old news. How many times are they going to bring this up
Jaysmith and u keep coming. Back
Until the last payment + 100 years
That's what your girl says about your weenie.
If he helps out the poor then he redeems himself.
If not he still will be the typical selfish lazy good for nothing athlete.
All greedy jerks.
If he gets sick all the money will not help him.
Time value of money: the $5.9 million in 1999 is equivalent to the current payouts using an 8.0% discount rate. Do the math. You wouldn’t be making this video if he had taking the $5.9 million upfront (in 1999). Again, do the math. The is nothing special here.
@Jack Torrance Hahaha. Correct.
@Jack Torrance I can't believe he said this is nothing special here either. Of course we wouldn't be making this video if he took the 5.9 million lol. Bobby Bonilla day wouldn't exist. People don't have a solid grasp on finance or economics usually.
