      Dear Sir,
I memorized the Periodic Table as a song (to the tune of Gilbert & Sullivan's "Modern Major General").
I can also give the atomic number of any element. I can do this because I first peppered the song with numbers. For example, after "Phosphorus", I sing "Now we've run through the first 15 elements. I then moed on to seeing numbers above the elements as I sing them.
      Next step? The symbols.
      ...
I also use the "digits to letters" technique to memorize numbers.
For example, I memorized Avogadro's constant (chemistry again) - 6.02214076 * 10**23 - with "Jess, Nina & Doris Gooch know my Avogadro".
      ...
I use other mnemonics to memorize other things, e.g. I've memorized the biological taxonomy (Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species) as "The domain of King Philip was classified by order of his family".
      ...
Finally, I've memorized a lot of things (other languages, multiplication tables etc.) through rote learning. I know rote learning has a bad name, but I will say this for it: The person who has learnt something by rote at least knows it, i.e. he/she has acquired quantifiable and demonstrable knowledge.
      ...
The mind palace. I had never heard of it until I discovered you. I am working on it. I've started memorizing this around the house.
      ...
I hope some of this helps.
      ...
Kind regards, thank you and all the very best.
      ...
      Steve

@@stevecanty9200 may I know mare about rote learning? How do you learnt it???

    • @stevecanty9200
      @stevecanty9200 Před rokem

Rote learning is not a "technique". It simply involves learning by repetition (hence the name), e.g. 13 2s are 26, 13 3s are 39, 13 4s are 52 etc. This is best done during "dead time" (e.g. on a walk, on a bus, waiting in a queue etc.).
      ...
However, (i) some things (e.g. languages, multiplication tables) often do not readily lend themselves to memory techniques; (ii) memory techniques minimise the amount of rote learning but they do not eliminate it. For example, if you use the "mind palace" technique to memorise a deck of cards, you still have to memorise your "walk" around the "palace" as well as the characters you have substituted for the cards.
      ...
BTW, since I wrote my comment, I have used the "mind palace" technique to memorise a deck of cards.
The good news is that it works and that anyone with average intelligence can learn it and practise it.
      ...
Kind regards and all the best.

Hi Ronnie, my best compliments for you.... Now, I am having problems with the mind palace. If I create it with periodic table, the pictures are attached with it, alright? But later I am having trouble using the same palace for memorizing other things, cause it is messing up with the older pictures. It turns out if I use the same palace rooms twice, memorizing becomes difficult. What's the solution? And, if it is possible, make a video of memorizing a deck of cards. Thanks for your great work.
