  • Do you have a loose door strike plate and your door does not latch closed? This video will help you to fix your loose door strike plate due to stripped out holes in the door frame. It is a super simple fix that will allow you to securely make your door latch again.
    The product that I used in this video:

    For anyone else planning to do this, close the door with strike plate in place but not screwed, wiggle it to ensure it's centered perfectly, hold it in place or tape it and re-open the door, only then you drill new holes. Otherwise, you may end up misaligned and have to restart from the beginning.

      Well yes a filler of some sort is usually the way w little indentations that you dont wanna replace the whole piece but still its important to get the little indentations covered and filled....

    I forgot to snap off the colorful part of the match and when I closed the door, the entire thing went up in flames. Probably my fault for washing the door down with gasoline. 😁. Ok, no I didn't catch my door on fire, but I did use toothpicks instead of matches. I wet them first so they'd swell up inside the hole before adding the screws. If this falls out again, I'm going to use sandpaper or something to make shavings and mix it with glue before stuffing it in the screw holes.
    Thanks for the tip of using wooden matchsticks.

    24 April 2022 - Thank you! I did not even take the latch off. Just put in a wooden fireplace match in each hole snapped it off and put the screws back in. Nice and snug and door works perfect.

    Good video. I also find it useful to keep several sizes of dowel rods around. I clean the screw holes out, then use wood glue on the end of a piece of dowel. If the dowel doesn't quite fill the hole, I like to use flat toothpicks to kind of "shim up" the dowel. Cut off any excess filler and tap in the dowel/toothpicks till they are flush. Don't forget the glue!

    Not a bad video I remember seeing the match stick fix used by a family friend I prefer pre drilling and sinking a dowel where the screws were than counter sinking the new hardware

    This is perfect, just what I was looking for, thank you! I may try the matches first, as a temporary measure before I get down to the wood filler fix.

    You can also drill out the holes a little bigger and tap 2 golf tees into them. Break them off and put screws back in

    There is a fourth way of dealing with this: Drill out the screw holes slightly and tap in a section of dowel rod coated with wood glue. Let dry. Drill new holes.

    TIP ...Use foil tape over strikeplate location to perfectly mark the deadbolts exact location on the first attempt. close door turn lock lightly a few times to indent foil tape.

    What if it’s an old house and all the wood that is supposed to be inside is no longer there? Can I fill it with a spray in wood filler because it’s got to have more than wood filler.

    Hi my door looks exactly looks like that with a crazy plus. This inside looks like someone spooned the wood out. I just bought the house. I will use that puty to put the screws in. Can you tell me how do I fix the hole between the screw holes? Can I put a tiny amount of the puty? I'm finding crazy things around this house lol you explain things very well. Thanku for sharing!

      Onli Mi…you can use either: MINWAX High Performance Wood Filler or a product called BONDO. In either case you’ll have to mix a hardener with the resin. The hardener comes with the kit. Just follow the instructions. I’ve used it on my outside window sills. Either stuff works GREAT!!!

    • @johnschulenberg1
      @johnschulenberg1 Před 2 lety

      Oh…MINWAX wood filler you can get at Home Depot or Lowes etc…the BONDO I got at Walmart at the automotive dept..also used by auto body repair mechanics. I’ve used both…I think they’re the same product just called different names🤷‍♂️
