No wonder why Michael Dorn made it a condition on DS9 that he wouldn’t get beaten up every week
So they just did it every other week
"Fall seven times. Stand up eight." - Old Earth Proverb that likely inspired Worf.
"So I was watching Next Generation last night."
"Which episode?"
"The one where Worf gets his ass kicked."
You're going to have to be WAY more specific there.
@@Spartan3101200 You know, it's the one where he snarled, attacked an alien and got K.O.ed in one hit. I think Picard tugged on his uniform in that one.
Do you have the slightest idea how little that narrows it down?
@@funichigo Yes.
Isn't that like every episode? lol
Good Idea: Let's have the bad guy of the episode beat up the Klingon character so the audience knows they're a threat.
Bad Idea: Doing it every other fucking week
😂😂😂😂
In all seriousness, they wanted it to be that "If they can beat up Worf, they must be a big deal!" but at no point did they ever set Worf up to be some badass other than "Watch out for the Klingon." It wasn't until DS9 that we see him really start kicking ass.
I think there might be a handful of TNG episodes where he shows at least *some* prowess, but not much. Riker was once impressed that Worf was moving at a good clip during an engagement with Q. And in another you see Worf lift something a human cannot. Apart from that, he isn't much of a fighter at all in TNG.
Lifting heavy stuff is one thing. I was talking about his fighting ability. It's never really showcased in TNG other than some holodeck sims that never make him feel badass.
The only time I can think of which is contrary to this thread's narrative is when he killed Duras in revenge for Kaylar's murder!
Yeah, but it would have helped if they had established Worf as a big deal FIRST. He made the OG red shirts look like the Inglorious Bastards.
Worf beat up a Romulan guard at the end of Redemption, part 2. Assuming the Romulans are just as strong as the Vulcans, this would hint some of his unseen fighting ability. 🤔
oh man, I woulda put the "He just collapsed" one at the end. make it look like all this damage did a toll on him.
We were all waiting for the Klingon vs. Android fight. Your point is totally valid though, I agree.
In fairness to Worf the barrel at 1:18 had no honor.
Its a romulan!!!
Are you sure it wasn’t a vul can? 🤣
Lol, isn't that the one that paralyzed him? Honestly, it hit his lower right back, he should theoretically be alright. Idk how his spine got owned lol
It is a romulan barrel
Michael Dorn did his own stunts which is all the more impressive. He didn’t have to but he genuinely enjoyed it and wanted the finished product to be good.
Yep, having big bits of formed polystyrene fall on him must have taxed his 'stuntman' sensibilities!!!
I hate to be that guy but his stuntman was Rusty McClennon, who died in 2015.
You have been reported for falsifacation
@@bannisher Okay, but that doesn't mean that Dorn didn't do any of his own stunts.
Now that is the sign of a good actor.
0:20
This stuff is Hilarious with and without context
My friends and I used to laugh our asses off watching Worf get his ass kicked…. lol. It was the running joke in the 90’s.
With all those heavy barrels and containers precariously stacked on top of each other in the cargo bay, the place must look like a dump after a space battle or fist fight.
They bounced like plastic too. Fitting how that was able to break Worf’s spine. Par for the course
@@dightonazpeitia4350 Geordi couldn’t move it by himself. It took super strong Data to move that plastic barrel. 😆
@@tiffanybatcheller-harris522 Yeah, because Geordi is known as the pillar of strength in the Federation 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Multiple OSHA violations too.
Lower decks had the right of it. Why do they even build them to stack so precariously?
In DS9 he does a 180 and is pretty much elevated to God mode in fights. As it should be.
I know. Worf is awesome in DS9. 😉 When I rewatched TNG episode with the parasitic aliens controlling the SF Admirals, and seeing Worf fight like an idiotic barbarian (after Geordi and Riker were taken out) was so laughable. 😂
That other blade he could actually draw and _use_ in close quarters helped, too.
I think that's because Michael Dorn only agreed to do ds9 if he started winning fights. Lol
The worf effect at its finest.
2:20 "I protest! I am NOT a merry man!"
Serious props to Micheal Dorn for all these stunts.
Absolutely. He really gets my respect for the tumble he took over the tactical station early-on in this awesome post.
dude even got beaten up by barrels lol
I don't think I've laughed so hard in my life. Worf is basically the Piccolo of Star Trek The mighty Klingon warrior who is completely useless in a fight. lol Micheal Dorn must have been like WTF man I'm a 6 foot 3 Klingon warrior and I am getting my ass kicked by females half my size lol 0:21 was the funniest.
without context I am to believe that Worf died about 6 times, while getting paralyzed in the meantime
0:20 Klingon training manual:
1. Pull your dishonorable Federation provided ranged weapon.
2. But close for hand-to-hand combat like a True Warrior.
Warning: Do _not_ attempt during the cold open or you'll likely get a beat down.
Phew, Deanna got the most hits in out of everyone. ^_^
You ever heard Marina Sirtis when she's angry? I can kind of _believe_ the Troi clips!
Worf should have just worn a red shirt for the entire show.
>facepalm< Maybe... if it were _90 years earlier._
Wait...actually, you're right! in the Command track colors, he wouldn't be sent into the field so casually for work any midshipman could do.
Worf the mighty warrior is always getting his ass kicked
You know, the fact that he was often getting his ass kicked makes him all the more impressive, because, even AFTER getting his ass kicked time and time again, and after frequent near death experiences, he somehow never lost his confidence, and continued to bravely perform his duty as chief security officer time and time again. This continued mental resilience and bravery enabled him to also WIN a lot of epic fights as well here and there. He is an absolute legend.
Hell yeah.
The Enterprise sure has a lot of unsecured containers for a ship
Is it like a requirement to be on the bridge crew to kick Worf's ass at least 3 times, phasered on a high stun setting being acceptable? "Congratulations on your promotion, Wesley, now kick Worf's ass and shoot him with this phaser several times."
You know its BAD when even Cheif O'Brien gets a lick in on you.
Ugh.Seriously! What about Counselor Troi, Captain Picard and Commander Riker? Even they're better shots and fighters then Worf in some cases. At least the Writers make Worf more of a warrior in Ds9.
@@sguinn91 And even then, the tailor manages to get some good shots in on him
Chief O'brien isn't soft guys. He has a combat background, not just engineering.
@@photonicus He has bad shoulders. He should have been discharged with honors years ago.
Chief O'Brien was _literally_ a possessed war veteran with a phaser there!
I haven’t even watched the series but I feel just bad for this guy. I usually hate it when character gets Worfed but this guy doesn’t get a break.
Even against Ferengi. That must have been the most painful for his pride.
The tough guy ends up being the punching bag! Give Worf a break!
Right?!
Come ds9 he remembered how to be a badass. It’s sisko really. Picard had the bald, but Sisko had the bald and the beard.
@@kagato23 In other words, we have two of the best badasses on DS9! Worf was the fighter, but Sisko was the fighter and the one making the hardest decisions, especially during the Dominion War.
@@sguinn91 Different kinds of Fighters. Worf is a warrior. His TNG record aside, you send him when there's a battle, when the problem at present needs to punched, and Worf will punch till that problem is solved. Sisko is a soldier. You send him (ideally in charge of some Worfs) when you need to win a WAR.
Man, the poor guy just couldn’t catch a break… even the ship itself, and the fake human could kick Worf’s ass…
I remember being a kid and thinking “Worf gets bodied an awful lot - is THAT why people like him?” Twenty-odd years later, and I think that’s actually the reason I like Worf…
Taking a sternum shot and back hand from lore and not dying is pretty impressive
him getting bodied by Obrien is very satisfying because Obrien is the biggest badass in ST history.
0:20 Even Deanna Troy knocks him down with her left hand.
Poor Worf.
And she shot him a few times as well. She was very abusive, no wonder they did not last.
At least Michael Dorn got to shed Worf's stagnant acting from STTNG when he joined the much better STDS9. TNG always used him to show how tuff an enemy was by letting him get beat up by them. (Man a Klingon is bad and he gets his ass handed to him...WOW!) This was a tired situation that they constantly put Worf in. DS9 showed what Worf' was worth, not just some lame spring board character like TNG used him as to bounce off of.
Lmaooo “the much better.” There goes your creditability.
The Klingons look scary and their ships look scary just to intimidate people into avoiding fights with them. But the secret is out. Hell, even Riker barely broke a sweat taking out one of the biggest (if not the biggest) Klingons on the ship he was serving on.
Riker is Huge, and also very trained.
*I I A M N O T A M E R R Y M A N*
Did Worf ever win a fight in TNG?
Hey he beat death every time so......
@@yinsloth5001 he’s a superklingon, every time he almost dies he comes back stronger
Even the Ferengi kicked his ass!
Poor guy, seems like his character was the snarf (thunder cats) of Star Trek
Worf his stunt man I’m so sorry for all this abuse
worf, his stunt men , their eyes wet their face red
"I saw that episode of TNG where Worf gets his ass kicked."
"Which episode is that?"
"...YES."
Man, he gets denied by his fellow crew and beaten up by everyone else. Serving on the Enterprise must have sucked.
He may get hit a lot but he comes back fighting and kicks butt.
I feel like if Lore wanted to he could probably kill a normal human with one well placed punch so I'll give Worf a pass there but holy shit, the guy gets defeated by barrels and doors.
There is an entire video dedicated to Worf getting taken down by doors on set.
And Ferengi. How embarrassing is that?
This is one of my favorite tropes.
He won some of those fights. And the ones against Data... really can’t count those.
Worf is like the starship trooper of Star Trek
Some of these aren't even "TNG" but "DS9" where Worf kicks more ass
Yeah, but after getting your ass handed to you for what 7 seasons on TNG? Your rep still takes a hit
To be fair, the Borg knew Jeet Kune Do.
Troi really did a number on him, multiple times. Talk about a domestic abuser.
2:42
at least in that scene in ds9, worf eventually wins the fight.
Ok I am willing to give Worf a break on a lot of these, like when he gets shot but for fuck sake your telling me that barrel broke his spine?
A hollow plastic barrel no less
If you watch Geordi try and move it, you see it weighs a lot, was.probably full of liquid or powder, and weighed several hundred pounds.
Holy shit I'm glad that I didn't see the clip at 5:40 as a kid, that would have scared the shit out of me lol
"I could kill you, but i cannot defeat you"
1:26 double flip
The barrel that was so heavy that it broke his spine bounced.
It’s not like Worf is so weak and pathetic that a girl half his size can casually break his wrist and throw him across the room like a puppy. 0:20 ….Nevermind!
1:25 Worf gets launched and annihilated 😂
5:45 Way to emasculate, Doctor. The *Chief* of Security is alert and less than a yard from the threat, and you immediately call in goons to help!
Aren't you supposed to be someone that understands the Klingon culture?
2:59 lmao the fact they keep stabbing him with cattle prods offscreen, after he’s unconscious, is rather blood thirsty even for The Breen. He must’ve really pissed them off
for a klingon this is all fun and games
I’m new to Star Trek. They make Klingons out to be this powerful warrior race but I’m in at season 3 ep 11 of TNG they been getting beat through out the whole series.
Is it their Ships that make them feared??
It’s actually kind of brilliant if you ask me. Appear intimidating so that others won’t want to test you. The problem is, as they had experienced, every so often (nearly weekly in Worf’s case) their bluffs were called.
@@dightonazpeitia4350 Worf just wanted to prove he was a 'true' Klingon to himself. And the Klingon Empire 's warriors had no serious conflicts to test them for decades, just their ritual combat with rules codified in peacetime. But they would never have never admitted to themselves how out of shape they were.
@@henrysokol3466 Yet instead, he made all Klingons look weak AF.
To be fair come DS9 they get much better treatment and they are shown to be actual warriors.
My guy cant even use the computer
I was gonna riot if you didn't include his arch enemy, the barrel.
I like how Worf enters the room, and that one random barrel just lies in wait for it's big chance. Then it takes it.
Worf live matter lol
I remember this part
Lol
0:21 my favorite
Exactly what I hoped it would be.
It is hard to sell android strikes convincingly especially against a klingon, because all he's got going for him is his metal structure. His velocity isn't special at all.
These bad character physics are a trope, iconic would be Superman lifting extremely heavy items even though he would just tip over or sink into the ground, regardless of how strong he is. It would require magical gravity-bending powers to prevent that. (Although since Superman can fly, maybe that's what happens. - But I also remember this trope being used by Spiderman. He stemmed against a bus and stopped a car dead in its tracks and the bus didn't even dent or move.)
Shits funny as fuck! Damn a black man can't get no break! Shit still kinda funny as fuck!
I forget: did they explain in the episode "Ethics" why a cybernetic assembly couldn't 'bridge' nerve impulses over the damaged section of hisspinal cord?
Even barrels like to beat the shit out of wolf.
Why do we use Worf as a measuring stick for how threatening the villain of the week is? Cause it seems like he's a bit of a pushover with his win/loss ratio.
6:20 lol
6:27 The one where Lore knocks the wind out of Worf should have been first. This episode established that Data/Lore are stronger than Worf.
worf is freakin tuff!
there are ds9 scenes tho
AAAARRRGGGGHHHHH! 1:26
5:39 Maya from space 1999 as an older woman. Course, I've seen the same when my wife finds I've drank her last bottle of wine. :(
Hes a klingon, and klingons suck at hand to hand combat. How did Jadzia dax even fall in love with him?
Out of pity?
Worf always getting beaten up was almost as bad as J.R. always getting shot on "Dallas."
riker oops sorry my bad.
Klingons... A Humanoid race from the planet Qo'noS (pronounced Kronos) were they're a proud, tradition-bound people who valued honor nd combat. The aggressive Klingon culture had made them an interstellar military power to be respected and feared.
And then there's Worf.
Ouch
Rekt
0:44
hmmm
I would have fired him from his post . Useless .
And the only "strong" star trek character gets his ass beat, again.
She made that look ridiculously easy. 0:20
Probably his most embarrassing defeat LOL
Troi was possessed by an alien entity at that time.
Some of these scenes are taken out of context.
Lol keyword being SOME.
How do you get jumped by Ferengis bro?
Hazard pay..lol
Bro lmao
that was retract plank, not remove plank
Hey I didn’t get my share 👊🏼😡
FLOPPER!
Why would I get to the game for you to
Why startrk made worf get beat up in all the scripts thou.
Because he's the big strong tough guy, so to show how serious the threat is, they toss him around like a ragdoll. It would later become known as the Worf Effect, showing the bad guy means serious business by beating your tough guy with ease.
What a jobber
ive heard this complaint but i disagree really, like you got not even six minutes of him losing fights here from like 7 seasons of him being the designated "go fight him" guy (also some of this is ds9)and there were plenty of moments where he btfo'd a ton of people. they definitely demonstrated, at least in my opinion that Klingon physiology was powerful, when he did get beat up it was usually just because they were demonstrating that it was something beyond the capabilities of a biological humanoid to fight physically.
That’s why Riker beat the piss out of one of the biggest Klingons while serving on a Klingon vessel without even breaking a sweat. The other theory is far more simply than all of your blabbering. Klingons: Their bark is FAR worse than their bite.
@@dightonazpeitia4350 wow the level of pretentious in your post is insane, your "far more simplyerist than u" explanation is that everyone in the star trek universe is lying about klingons just because a super famous officer who was literally trained specifically to fight klingons for more than half of his life, and has been practicing blind martial arts since he was a young child, whose close friends with a klingon warrior he uses as a regular sparring partner, who also has feats that literally span multiple realities ,who literally singlehandedly changed the course of human history more than once ,and became a god twice, also just happened to win a fight one time with a young klingon who was not expecting him to attack.
ok m8
i mean talk about 'blabbering' you pretentious load, i mean how in gods green fuck is that more simple than "the writers use klingons to show how tuff the bad guys r"
@@dinkusstinkus4396 A “young” Klingon who wasn’t expecting an attack? He was a VETERAN how do you think he got to the position of third in command of a Klingon ship? See this is why you make it so easy to be condescending.
Also, he knew of their customs BETTER than Riker, so you can’t go with the lame excuse: “He wasn’t expecting it.” He was all about that life. He SHOULD have seen what was coming light years away, especially with the posturing and the captain giving consent for the fight!
I am obviously not dealing with a Vulcan here.
Oh, and let’s not forget the OG Star Trek, where Scotty, Chekov and company beat the piss out of a group of rowdy Klingons in a bar. They act “tough” because they can afford to be until someone calls their bluff.
Let’s also remember that probably the worst head of security in the history of even Stormtroopers, Worf used to get his ass beat, and out dueled with fire arms so often and on such a weekly bases that it used to be a National past time.
We were literally left wondering how Worf was going to get his ass beat this week.
LLAP 🖖
I'm watching the series for the first time and I'm really confused about this. He's consistently described as a warrior, but so far he hasn't done anything that lines up with that.
Next Gen is a pretty pacifist show, so the warrior character can never actually SOLVE anything with violence. So, his only purpose in a major fight is... this. Getting taken out to make them more impressive.
@@TheMewtata How is that impressive though? You took out the one guy who gets his ass handed to him every week. After a while, news spreads about the most beatable head of security serving in Starfleet.
pmsl
now i understand where his scars on the forehead come ...
poor bullied klingon
