  • Heat Pump part 4 adding common accessories Accumulator and Muffler.
    The accumulator protects the compressor form liquid refrigerant ( low superheat). This is important for a heat pump when the outdoor temperature gets low and doesn't boil all the refrigerant to a vapor. but the screen and orifice' in the bottom returns the oil back to the compressor. When you have a burn out, the screen can clog up and starve the compressor of oil.
    The Accumulator is mounted on the true suction line between the compressor and the reversing valve
    The Muffler just quiet's the refrigerant flow by smoothing gout the pulsations in a hollow larger chamber.
    It is installed in the true discharge line between the compressor and the reversing valve.
    Special thanks to JD Kelly (Student_of_HVAC) for the graphics!

    Nicely done. Better than 3d demonstration.

    The liquid line muffler in heat pump is normally rusted badly and a potential leaking spot. Have been fixed several already

      I have not seen a liquid line muffler before.
      I inspect all items during maintenance. When the paint flakes I use a wire brush to clean and then a little spray paint to protect.

      Mufflers go on discharge lines. If badly rusted I'd look into your temps

      I have been slowly transitioning for a while now. I finally did the name change last week.
      I want the channel to be about HVAC, not me.

    I came across an entire storage facility with suction line driers on heat pumps, outside the condensers...

  • @MrKen59
    @MrKen59 Před rokem +2

    Where is the refrigerant stored on a pre charged condenser unit?

    • @love2hvac
      @love2hvac  Před rokem +1

      They charge them into the liquid line so it is stored in the condensor.

    i noticed no muffler on a rotary compressor, wondering why?

    • @love2hvac
      @love2hvac  Před rokem

      The entire case of the rotary is high pressure vapor, so it works like a muffler, I have seen them but early.
      They are also less likely on scrolls too, most common on reciprocating.

    Hi Ty! Why the liquid refrigerant not pass the strainer in the bottom while the oil can pass it? Thankfully.💐

    • @love2hvac
      @love2hvac  Před rokem

      Hi sammer,
      Some liquid refrigerant can also pass but it's a metered amount and it carries oil with it.

  • @grashoprsmith
    @grashoprsmith Před 10 měsíci +1

    How is oil picked up from the accumulator without picking up liquid refrigerant?

    • @love2hvac
      @love2hvac  Před 9 měsíci +1

      That's the reason the hole is so small, so it will meter in the liquid in a small enough amount to handle it.

    Can we surmise anything based on frost growth on the accumulator exterior while in heat mode?

    • @love2hvac
      @love2hvac  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Great question!
      Not really anything we can use. It will hold the excess in heating mode so it's normal and depends on the conditions.

    I am replacing my first accumulator on a 3 ton scroll that leaked all the oil and R22 out. Any suggestions on how much oil to add to the accumulator before soldering it back in?
