  • Motorcycle riders of Ireland ride out en masse to try to bring attention to the problem of bike theft in Dublin & convince Government & Senior Garda Management to:
    1. Give the Gardai the training they need to pursue bike thieves
    2. Permission to engage & ideally, make tactical contact to knock them off the stolen bikes
    3. Assurances that Gardai will be safe from prosecution (once proper procedure is followed) if the thief is injured as part of the pursuit

Had a bike stolen years ago in Belfast, the police tried their best to prosecute me for it
"You where seen with no helmet riding aggressively"
Im standing talking to them with my helmet and keys in hand after calling it in
"Yeah but you called us at 9:40 and the bike was seen running a red light at 9.45, are you sure it wasn't you??"
5 days later get a fixed penalty notice
Have to go to cop shop and plead my case again, spent 5 minutes arguing over the intercom to be let in , finally get in and the twat at the desk thinks im just taking the piss
Pricks the lot of them , god help the next person that tries this 👍👊
Great idea lads, if there are any of these up north id gladly attend

I dared to defend myself against a gang of travellers who stole 5k worth of property from my home, later on I found my stuff being advertised on FB, I gave them the details of the people and they fudged that investigation too, not enough evidence apparently.

In London the Police make more effort as the mopeds that were getting nicked were used direvtly in crimes - purse/phone snatching, jewellery store robberies etc. If it were just related to being driven off road for kicks they'd prioritise it lower. More to the point in London now, under the tories, these peaceful protesters would be nicked. It's scary how much freedom the tories are eroding.

    • @PokerMuppet

Nah, it was a publicity stunt... They've stopped chasing again a while back. At best they only cared about the crimes that were being committed on stolen bikes anyway, they still couldn't care less about the bike thefts themselves.

The main problem is police not empowered to tackle them (here at least). Have spoken to a few serving members about it (some of them bikers themselves) & they've no support from on high plus if they hurt the little scrotes, they could be held liable.
They want to go after them, it boils their blood, but they need the training, policies & protection from prosecution to do so, hence us riding out trying to get the ball rolling

@@dstev55 Yeah I was disappointed with notts police when my bike was stolen. Fortunately I had a tracker so they actually went and retrieved it within an hour - that I can't fault them on but I suspect had I not had a tracker they wouldn't have attended. The bike was ruined - the thieves wouldnt have been able to start it without the key or replacing the ignition and computer but they wrote it off ripping it to pieces trying. I could tell it hadnt been started because the tracker was still working and hadnt shown the ignition on until I gave the keys to my insurance who turned it on when assessing the damage. The police straight up told me they knew who had stolen it but didn't have proof....even though it was found in their yard, along with two other bikes stolen that day and even though there are a million cameras where it was stolen. There was even an article in the notts post praising them for finding 3 bikes stolen that week....no, my tracker lead you to an easy win, but you closed the case after a few weeks and I got nothing but an insurance pay out and increased premiums. I loved that bike. Trackers are great and I highly advise bikers to get them (proper trackers with real people monitoring and liaising with the police) but they wont return your bike to you as you left it, and apparently wont get the thieves arrested when caught.

They are given almost impunity in these situations. They are allowed to knock a suspect of a motorcycle ever since it became commonplace to, when being chased by police, jump on a motorcycle with no helmet in the hopes the police will not chase you. Now, the moment you fail to stop, you are accepting all risks you have brought on yourself.

@MetalFan10101 in an ideal world yes. We don't live in an ideal world. I live in the UK where the actions of the officers in London although initially sanctioned as "Op Scorpion" and led to the viral videos of which there are only a few and are no longer condoned by Senior Management. You ram a bike thief off a bike and you are prosecutable. The officer will not be supported, they will face prosecution and will be publicly named in the press. The offenders right to life is deemed more I,portent than the officers right to do their job, prevent crime and detain criminals.

Question, in Ireland, what if the scroats came to your property, and you went outside with a weapon, to defend your property and yourself?
In.England, if you dared to attack the little darlings, you are more likely to get arrested...
I was at my local tire place having my tires replace on my car and got talking to a biker, he had a scruffy FJR1300, he told me he was a motorbike courer, I said, would you ever consider getting a newer model?( His exhaust was rusted as hell) he said no... He asked me what bike I owned ZZR1400. Look at your bike and look at mine, whose bike is more likely to get stolen..
Pitiful, that its come to this..

Thanks to the organisers of the Protest for giving their time and effort - much appreciated. As motorcyclists are only a tiny percentage of Irish road users, I doubt if the Government or Gardai will do much about the problem (until someone is killed). But better to do something than nothing. A good turnout but could have been a lot bigger and ALL motorcyclists should be supporting the organisers (and not waiting until THEIR bike is robbed or damaged!).

His mate was laughing at him with the amount of security he had on his bike the night before the second theft took place but wasn’t laughing the next morning when the bike was gone. Incidentally, there were two bikes parked, an old Motoguzzi and a brand new Triumph Speed Triple RS. The Guzzi was left, so looks like stolen to order. years ago a guy had a lot of parts from his Harley chromed at a chrome shop. Parts of the bike, chassis, and fenders, and parts of the engine. Each part, he would have his social security number etched into that part for identification. back then in the 80s that wasn’t as big a deal as it is today about SSI numbers..
his bike was stolen after he got all his chromed parts on it, and he had been riding it for a while
years later, he goes to a motorcycle swap meet. Lots of chromed used parts, laying out on the ground and on portable, folding tables. he finds a part with his Social Security number, etched into it..
he contacts the state police.. They investigate the seller, they search his house and his shop, it’s loaded with disassembled dozens of stolen motorcycles, the crook goes to prison for operating a motorcycle theft ring..

Even if they succeeded to take chain off there was another Kryptonite U lock and both tyres flat because of slow puncture. Steering lock is broken and I cant turn steering right anymore so Ill need to fix that before Ill ride it again but for the future I think pump and valve tool will be extra security. Love seeing riders unite and support the cause. But I don't wanna give control freaks more power to violently target, when they wrongfully target regularly and get away with it.
I want better self defense laws, police and courts should be able to give a direct answer on what constitutes self defense, and what level of force a civilian is allowed to use to protect themselves and their property.
    -
You should be allowed to be responsible for protecting and retrieving your own property, and if you target the wrong person unjustly you should face the full consequence of the law just as the officers should.
Police shouldn't be expected to permanently maim teenagers, for stealing something replaceable, because we don't want to take responsibility for the security of ourselves or our vehicle.
Let's stop paying these insurers thousands for nothing, let's put that money in the bank, get 3rd party only, and cover our own losses.
Not only is the incentive there to be responsible in where and how we leave our bikes, but watch how fast insurers will drop prices.

Is bike theft really this problematic and easy? I’m speaking from lack of experience tho I feel my bike is tampered with when parked. But as far as it being stolen, Implant an Apple AirTag tracker an I even use a sleathed chainlock to lock up the back wheel and I also use the factory handlebars lock. Granted my bike is 500lbs and not as attractive to steal but I just can’t help but think to myself..”are these people struggling with bike theft putting in real effort to prevent it?” genuine thought

    • @evelghostrider
      @evelghostrider Před 4 měsíci +2

You will never prevent a theft if they want it. Yes you can make it difficult so they move on to one less locked up.
As for adding air tags, that does not make police goto the location and knock the door sadly. They will normally just leave it, or suggest you contact your insurance as that's what it's for.
Because they know its alot of work with zero outcome even if it goes to court. As almost no punishment comes to the person who stole it.

It took years for London to return back to this permission to ram thieves of their bikes again. I think it will be removed soon again.
