Tony, Justin, and Kieran reunite to talk about the last of the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies. In this movie review/podcast they will discuss the things that make Spider-Man 3 disappointing. Like the Harry storyline being sandwiched in with 2 other villains, How Sandman disappears for large chunks of time, and how they botched the black suit/Venom storyline.
Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) and M.J. (Kirsten Dunst) seem to finally be on the right track in their complicated relationship, but trouble looms for the superhero and his lover. Peter's Spider-Man suit turns black and takes control of him, not only giving Peter enhanced power but also bringing out the dark side of his personality. Peter must overcome the suit's influence as two supervillains, Sandman and Venom, rise up to destroy him and all those he holds dear.

"Harry attacking his Peter" made me laugh out loud
The rumor before Spider-Man 3 came out was that 3 and 4 were filmed together for back-to-back releases - with 3 to include Sandman and Peter with the black suit, that he would get it off of him at the end and then 4 would be all about Venom. That would’ve been a better option, as this movie felt WAY too busy.
Hmm, first time I’ve heard that. That definitely would have been better though.
Never heard that, but definitely would've been better that way.
Yeah, i remember that one
They could have done that and more focus in the first movie on Harry as the new green goblin but actually competent. There's plenty of source material in the comics where Harry struggles between his madness and loyalty to Peter. In this he was just a klutz really, gave himself amnesia then got blowed up.
To all the good people in the comment and its replies: Yes, such a thing was considered, but Sam Raimi was unsatisfied with the possible outcomes, so he decided to make a single film.
There's something about the way Tony's face looks between 0:10-0:16 that always makes me laugh, or, puts a smile on my face.
Even when I'm having a bad day, I'll go to 0:10-0:12 & pause it & in record-setting time, I'll feel much better...
Tony: "OMG, my dad is a murderer, I'm going to the cops!"
Now a respectable Italian son would say: "Dad, where do you want me to dump the body?"
Spider-Man 3’s pretty good, but not great like the others. Executive meddling was a big issue, the pacing is all over the place, and some of the characters don’t get as fleshed out as they need to be, but Raimi’s message of dropping one’s ego and learning to forgive still shines through.
Really the Venom plot should've been nixed. Maybe seed things and save Venom for later. It feels like there was a movie then they just added the Venom storyline. Which if I'm not mistaken is basically what happened.
@@cope847 Despite it being due to studio meddling Raimi managed to make the Venom plot weave into the rest of the story well and perfectly compliment the themes.
Kieran is a Master Debater when it comes to making things sound dirty
When sandman dies the one liner coulda been:
“like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.”
I love how everyone identifies the animated series by its theme song no matter who it is you're talking to. They always go "You know, the one that goes 'Spider-blood, spider-blood, radioactive spider-blood'."
I LOVE Kieran's and Justin's jokes about Aunt May. Please don't ever stop being so hilarious.
The build up to the venom death just killed me. I was actually crying. 🤣🤣🤣 Please don't ever stop this gag. It gets funnier every single time.
Is it just me, or, did it sound like Tony farted at 34:37 instead of chuckle, or, no?...
Kieran's impersonation of Willem Dafoe as The Green Goblin around 19:53-19:57 always makes me laugh.
It's hilarious because when I was kid and we'd watch That 70s Show, I used to think Topher Grace would be a retry decent spiderman/Peter Parker, and then years later, he's Venom. And I thought to myself, not quite what I meant but.. lol
Peter Parker's sidewalk strut and dance scene in the club are still hilarious. 😄
I remember, pretty clearly, absolutely hating that in the theatre.. was so excited for the movie, so let down
@@l-wook I think I laughed at it more than I laughed with it.
@@robk.6591 I agree lol
The only scene i remember from watching it in the theature 😂
I wasn't a big fan of this movie when it was out. But, I was a big fan of Thomas Haden Church as Sandman, the fight sequences, the building finale, and the hilarious emo Peter Parker.
You think Rey Mysterio would show up in No Way Home, cause he dressed up as Spider Man a few times.
There was the scene before Sandman attacks the armored car when he passes thru all of those people. It looked brutal like a violent sandstorm tearing thru all of those people. I imagined them being skinned by how brutally the storm passed thru them..
Emilio Rivera doesn't play the robber in Venom, he's the lobby guard in that movie.
As some one from the UK, I think about how many fewer super villains there would be if they had a national health service.
1:32:26 I personally have to drain the venom from my cobra every time I watch an episode of Hack the Movies.
1:41:20 why do i feel this is about Newt?
Let's talk about the 2002 Goblin suit. They establish Norman likes masks. They establish the Hover-Glider and the Goblin suit as experimental military tech that was made that ornate in testing to show off. What they DON'T show is where this helmet came from. It's not one of his wall masks, and the suit they show early on has goggles, not a Goblin-shaped helmet.
In the context of the movies, I always got the impression that the mask design was an original design, where he took the original proper helmet for this military hover glider, and then tweaked it based on what he liked from the masks that he did collect. It's been awhile, but as I recall you can see aspects of the Green Goblin mask in the other masks.
It's also worth noting that he is nucking futs and talks to himself in the mirror, and he might have just designed the mask because that's what his alter-ego told him to do
Looking back. The mask gives me a samurai demon mask vibe. In my opinion, thats what I think they were going for.
omg the butler going down on the green goblin part had me dying
Watch the editors cut it’s an improvement
Yeah, the restructuring of events when Harry forced mj to break up with Peter makes it flow a lot better
Say what you want to about The Sandman in 'Spider-Man 3'.
It was awesome seeing him return in 'Spider-Man: Far From Home'.
You could say the same things about Willem Dafoe as The Green Goblin & Alfred Molina as Dr. Octopus, respectively, as well...
When you were talking about James Cromwell from 53:57-54:13, I was also gonna mention that he was in 'Space Cowboys' from 2000, 'Revenge Of The Nerds' from 1984, 'The Green Mile' from 1999 & a TV show on HBO that my dad likes called 'Six Feet Under'.
I'm sure he was in other movies & TV shows that others remember him from, as well, but, I literally can't remember what they are, right now--unless I look up his filmography, or, something like that...
Don’t forget Star Trek: First Contact and L.A. Confidential!
There's actually a terrible New Goblin action figure that I actually remember seeing at Wal-Mart in 2008. It moved lit up and made sounds, and swung that stupid kitana, and was even battery operated. It would've been really cool were it not the "New Goblin." He even had a voice clip that said "I'm the NEW Goblin, now!" It clearly wasn't James Franco's voice, either.
I had this
Love the rental reviews crew. Have Kieran in every episode.
“Topher no!” Haha that was hilarious. Tony you are awesome. Hope to meet you one day if you ever do a meet and greet by the Michigan area. This is my least favorite Spider-Man in the Sam Raimi trilogy but I still enjoy it way better than any other Spider-Man to date.
That deleted scene with penny and the sandcastle is on CZcams and its really heartbreaking, that one scene has more heart than anything in the 2 Andrew films and the two MCU films
Absolutely. There’s scenes even in the theatrical cut that have more heart than the other Spider-Man films after as well.
@@HeyFella “My daughter was dying…I was scared.” The way the actor delivers that line, Instant emotional gut punch
And the original ending was gonna reveal that she wasn’t gonna make it, but still wants to spend her final days with her dad. Damn
The Editor's Cut is, in the words of Goblin Jr, _So good._
You can find it online. Doesn't change a lot, but what it adds should have been there from the beginning.
I think the reason the Harry and Peter thing works is because they established in the first movie that there was resentment and jealousy from Harry towards Peter. It wasn't so much he "killed" his father, it was more of a last straw sorta thing
This episode was the best one to date. Aunt may is a national treasure
I remember going to see this movie on a Sunday night with my cousin. Not too packed, but we both walked out really confused. It had good parts, I do like seeing BDH in it cause she's gorgeous. You guys are freaking funny especially Kieran.
16:30 Peter never told Harry because Norman’s last request was “Peter, don’t tell Harry”
A friend of mine asked me what I think of Tobey Maguire's face at 2:04:14-2:04:21 as far as who it looks like, recently...
I told him "It reminds me of C.M. Punk from WWE with an impromptu, brief & severe case of constipation.".
Glad I stumbled on this channel, teaches me a lot about some movies I've seen.
2:23:53 The audience if the sounds during my screening are anything to go by 🤦♂️
That manscape ad was hilarious, reminds me of the way Norm Macdonald used to do ads
I still can't help but laugh at 35:14-35:31, personally--especially when Tony starts in with the choice of words that he uses around 35:22-35:26.
You’re knocking Peter for him staying in photography but think about it. He’s got a boss with an obsession with trashing Spider-Man and constantly demands and pays for pictures and Peter is Spider-Man so he get to supply his boss with selfies on his own terms and get paid for it enough to actually live in a New York apt. On top of that he can possibly find ways to limit the supply of pics making it to where Peter has more control of the market when it comes to Jameson
1:05:25 these aren't the same guy, but you are right, Emilio Rivera is in both Venom and Spider-Man 3.
What phrase did Tony use about getting stitches, again at 2:00:54-2:00:57?...
I think I said this in the Spider-Man review but, when macho man was flipped by Spider-Man he landed on his head instead of his back, and it messed up his spine. The stunt team didn’t want him to do the stunt and because of his injury he was in constant pain.
SPIDER-TONY is in a pickle. He's in the store with Justin & Kieran while Sand Johanna gets sand everywhere, Hob-Goblin Trisha tosses her pumpkin bombs, & Venom Crystal is getting goo everywhere.
The dummies being thrown is flucin kills me every time lmfao
I’m glad you guys covered the Spider-mun films.
Hack The Movies- Kieran's impersonation of Willem Dafoe as The Green Goblin around 19:53-19:57 always makes me laugh.
It was a teleport pod. They were teleporting sand from one place to another and a human got in and it merged them together into a sand man.
Why did Tony ask Justin "Are you recovering from Hanukkah?..." at 0:19-0:22?...
I just want this frame 38:53 of Tony and that elevator music for 2 hrs 😅
Every time I watch Spider-Man, in the back of my mind I just think about aunt Mae doing the strange…. FURIOUSLY and for that, Kieran is the GOAT lol
"Your aunt showed me her 😸"
Hardest ive laughed at HTM, ,HAHA
@@Smokey1419 it’s that then he hits the giggle 😂😂😂😂😂
Where can you find what Justin was talking about at 1:42:36-1:42:48 & how did they take the music off of the video, exactly?...
What was Tony talking about as far as Spider-Man & C.G.I., again around 37:18-37:43?...
I think I may have already asked this question, but, I don't remember & if so, I can't find it.
I lost it when yall were talking about aunt may losing her ring while goin to town on herself LOL
"too soon." LOL 🤣
Despite its messiness it all sort of works for me. Every villain represents a different theme and dilemma for Peter/Spider-Man. It’s got some of Raimi’s best directed sequences. It’s visually stunning and his directorial stamp is all over it unlike many modern comic book films. Its human drama is great. Its style is slick and fun. Somedays I like it more than the first but the 2nd will always be the high point of the trilogy. A lot of people seem to have come around to the strengths of this film and before this came out based on your previous comments in past videos I expected a more positive review of this that would have been refreshing but I guess not. Shame to just see the same old points echoed again but I guess they’re fair. I agree with Keiran the most here. I recommend the recent Totally Not Mark video on the Raimi trilogy which makes some great observations in favor of this film.
The two things that hurt the movie were the "dark Tobey" dancing scene and the overall presentation of Venom. Fix those 2 things and the movie would get a lot more love.
@@ChaseSchleich agreed…nuGoblin is stoopid
I like the doppelganger Venom that Todd Mcfarlane originally created that is the same size as Spiderman and had the smaller mouth and tongue but still could overpower Spiderman
@@ChaseSchleich I don’t have an issue with the Tobey emo dancing stuff. It’s supposed to be cringey and stupid. Its to show how embarrassing and self confident he’s become. It’s totally Sam Raimi’s sense of humor. I agree though that Venom could be better.
Netflix and the MCU multiverse, we can continue where S.Raimi left off, we can even re-hash this film into what ever Raimi wanted and THEN continue on with J.Statham as the lizard/rhino, J.Malkovich as the Voulture etc.(that's what i read somewhere).
Tony mentioned the Helio from back in the day. I found out they ditched phone services to make USB power banks and a solar powered flashlight, which sounds like the stupidest invention I've ever heard of.
01:21:02 Great point. I'd add that if that's the case, what's the point of making that a franchise if Batman's ""character arc"" was complete.

Nice reference to President Sippy-Cup at 45:13-45:17 by Tony...

1:40:41- 1:41:30 Spider Man: Uncomfortably Close to Home, ammirite?
Glad I wasn’t the only one that caught this!
Bryce Dallas Howard was actually pregnant during filming.
You should do a top 10 John Carpenter list. 😁 excellent work, love your videos! 👍👏
36:38 Harry attacking his Peter 😂😂😂
8:15 OM Topher Died
2:24:50 Tom Hardy Died SPIDER-MAN ACTOR'S DIED
Anyone remember that spoof Oscar bait movie they did in Tropic Thunder with Robert downy. Jr and Toby Mcguire?
I still can't help but laugh at what Tony says at 36:14-36:21...
In fairness, Kieran & Justin deserved what Tony says at 36:18.
Hack The Movies- There's something about the way Tony's face looks between 0:10-0:16 that always makes me laugh, or, puts a smile on my face.

Tony's face reaction to Kieran's comment.
Lol
2:23:50
Kieran, would the reverberations from aunt may furiously maturating with her vibrator be able to defeat the symbiote?
Thanks kieran looking forward to downloading :)
Tony is an android guy? I like him a little bit more now.
1:22 love that jump cut lol had to straighten things out? Lol blink if James was right
It's too bad they won't be reviewing "the Amazing Spiderman" movies, Kieran could've talked about Aunt May's hand going "Furiously" eastbound and down(smokey and the bandit reverence)
They should, they're both pretty good
Haha, Topher Grace rodeo-crotched Kieran’s face 😂😂
OMFG, "nah, you're the guy from Malcom in the Middle" to Justin... LOL
What did Justin say at 1:04:32-1:04:39?...
56:53
1:19:15
Hahahaha!
Remember that Gwen Stacy has twins with Norman, so i assume thats why she & her dad are there
glad they talk about the important stuff 33:00
i saw this movie in theaters way back when. Never liked the Nu Goblin stuff. As someone who read the comics a little bit when i was younger, the whole Green Goblin shtick gets incredibly boring: it's a trope like Aunt May getting kidnapped, Peter and MJ fighting, the sinister six ..Every ten or so volumes a version of the Green Goblin(hobgoblin etc..) had to come back. In that universe it should be like a flood during the rainy seasons. " uh, it's another guy in a green goblin costume, this time it's yellow. In other news.."
That's how I felt with symbiotes. "This times it orange venom and its a lady!"
You neglected to mention how there's a flashback that reveals Sandman/Marko was trying to take Ben's car at gun point in a very amiable way and when Carradine came running up, he got distracted and accidentally discharged the weapon at Ben.
I've never seen such a good use of stunt mannequins since Married With Children (the satellite installation episode)
I gave this video a thumbs up because of Kieran. "Symbi-Hall&Oates" - cue mischievous smirk
Thomas Haden Church was also in Easy A
A .gif needs to be made of Tobey Maguire from 2:20:13-2:20:17.
1:05:20 That looks nothing like him, but he is in the Venom film as the lobby security guard.
When these 3 are on the dais it is always a great and fun watch for me!
For those who want to go to one of the best parts of this whole review, it's around 32:59-36:21...
In the comics Venom was made by a machine during the Secret Wars.....it was just the suit first and there was no symbiote.....after the symbiote was created in story.....they retroactively made this moment the origin of the symbiote.
Omg that Manscape ad was the funniest skit ever.
side note: Justin sang that 3 seconds of "Zoot suit riot" with perfect pitch. Just sayin :P
I hope you guys have seen Hamlet 2. I just saw the new spider-man movie and I cant be the only one who felt like the movie was written by Steve Coogans character from Hamlet 2. I wont go into spoilers on an unrelated video, but in Hamlet didnt you think it was a bummer that everyone had to die in the end?
01:54:53 No Tony. Peter blink-182'ed his way to his apartment by jogging.
What's my Sense Again? What's my Spidey Sense Again?
When Kieran does the Dafoe impression, and says "YOU STABBED ME In THE PENIS...SPIDER...MAN! I lost my shit, spit my red bull out and rewound and almost passed out from laugh exhaustion 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
The score and visual effects are a 10. The cheesy acting felt like it was on purpose. I feel that because the whole movie is basically a meme, it transcends time and space. Raimimemes made it cool lol
@1:40:40 Was that a shot at Newt?
Of course it was. Didn’t you know? That’s their new reoccurring bit on here… taking shots at their former co-host/friend, regardless of how many of us still like him. It’s sooo clever. 🙄
