Thanks John, I am in the process now of looking to buy a 2008 Bentley Cont. GT and the maintenance was one issue that I wanted someone to address. Fortunately, I live in GA and as a veteran I don't pay for yearly tag fee as you do in SC. In fact I won't be paying tag fees for the two cars that I will have. Now, I will have the sales tax, a one time chg. but that shouldn't be that bad. I also, appreciated your comment about driving on a regular basis or not, in my case not. I figure I would probably only bring it out on Sunday and that driving would amount to about 25 miles in total. Thanks again!!!
I bought a 2008 with 53000 Miles a little over a year ago I drove it 12000 miles so far and can just confirm you are spot on with the maintenance cost ,actually in Florida the yearly tax is just $ 80.00
Hagerty is great they are very liberal with their miles and you don't have to proof to them like other Classic car insurance.
I had to replace the right strut Arnott $ 1250 including labor,control arm bushing $ 480 including labor ,tires {Kumo} $ 700,wiper blades $125.00,Cabin filter $ 100, air filter $ 165.00,oil and filter $ 100
Very nice. Thank you.
I’m in Orlando and I want to purchase one this year. Thanks for the info
great video plain and simple straight to the point
a v thank you so much. :)
Loved this John! Entertaining and real world numbers. Great video! -Chris
Thank you. I wanted to give the real numbers and thought it might help some that are looking for a Bentley. :)
Man John, I just rewatched this vid and enjoyed for a second time! You’re getting some good view counts n this one. Got anymore Bentley videos in the pipeline?
East Coast Classics Hey Chris. I am waiting till this semester is over and then I am going to try and get some videos out. Nothing Bentley related but some with the Viper might work. :)
Good info John, not that I'm in the market for one but for those that are... The more info one has, the more informed decision one can make.~Pat

Great video!! thanks for the info.. you definitely help me make my final decision on this 1 I appreciate it!!
Awesome. You will love it.
I’m getting a 2012/13 model and this vid made me feel much better about it, thanks
Mr Mags you will love it. I drove mine yesterday and every time I do it reenforces how much I love these cars.

Great video once again John , *thumbs Up*

Usman Chaudhry I like this idea a lot. Thank you. :)
John, love the video man. I plan on purchasing an 05 Bentley Continental GT. Keepin it all factory. I plan on driving the car roughly 500-1,000 miles per year. Even 1,000 is pushing it. I've been saving up and have plenty of side cash. I also need to size down my collection though. This will be the weekend car. Thanks for the insight man.
I think you will love it. With the small amount of miles you will be driving it, you should have many years of trouble free driving.
@@JohnEngel I appreciate the reply, I will like and subscribe as you'll be a HUGE resource for me. I'll be in touch, Thanks John. Keep up the vids man!

Alex Shimkus just make sure to get it cheap if the vacuum lines have not been replaced.
Thanks a ton, your video truly helped me with my decision. I have half the money towards the Bentley I'm buying in March 2019
Desmond Richardson thank you. It’s a great car. You will love it.
Just bought my first Bentley about a month ago, 2006 sport coupe. If you can accept the quirks, they are a great car. But, they are European.. which means hassle and faults. But, if you are wise and know how to hold a spanner they are not bad to work on at all. Much better the Range Rovers in so many ways.

Thank you so much. I used interstate batteries for the replacements. One was MTX-49 H8 and the other was MT-47 H5.

Dynamite review....finally a honest review on a dream car to many many people that have champagne taste & beer money like myself....thank you...im gonna ask a dumb question...can you take it to "firestone" for that oil change? lol(but im serious) & trust me people on here REALLY want to know your response to that!
Sorry for the delay. CZcams put this in the spam pile. Thank you for the comment and thank you for watching. You could take this to Firestone and as long as they new how to lift the vehicle it really is a simple job. Thank you again for watching.
Does this advice and insight apply to a early model Flying Spur? I want the 4 doors, and (in my opinion) it looks even better that the Continental.
That is a good question.
I just let go of my 2008 Cont GTC because of the costs of upkeep and the difficulty of finding someone to maintain it. Last year I had to replace the air suspension of the front end and it also had annual service and it cost me just under $20K...
Wow. That’s an expensive bill. I have worries about the air suspension but so far it has been okay.
When it fails, you have to stop wherever that might be. Un-drivable after that. I've heard of people replacing with a mechanical unit but, never seen it done. And, if done it disables the ride adjustment ability.
Stunning info
Sounds like you need to work an extra shift at McD's
AIR Nashville My Bentley mechanic told me just avoiding pot holes will make the air suspension last 10s of thousands of miles. Deep pot holes are the main reason he has these cars come in for repair.
Cool video...real numbers that make sense...unlike most youtubers....
John Hull thank you so much. I had a lot of questions about actual costs of owning one and no one seemed to want to talk about real numbers.
Do a video about the looks you get
Florida FTW, 80 bucks a year bro. Register it here and you good.
lol that would be way better.
Wish that in Florida we had the $500 tax cap as well though.
How much does a main service cost?
You didn't include gas, and you should have gotten a quote for oil changes.
The thing about batteries is , if they go dead , you can’t open your trunk , and batteries are located … in the trunk 😂 … so, there is that …
So much easier with a key.
What about the plastic engine (coolant lines, vacuum line) that becomes brittle over time (Vegas weather)?
So far my have stated very nice. I live in SC.
Great video Thanks
Glebb 21 thank you so much.
How many miles are you putting on it annually? What’s on the odometer now? Thx for great vids. I’m considering one.
Leonard McCreary I put around 1-2K a year on it and I’m sitting right at 70K on the odometer.
Should've covered fuel expense, even if just as an aside. 10city/16hwy mpg could get expensive in and of itself. Probably the biggest expense over the course of a year.
TheCasualJackass good point. It is the biggest expense but so worth it.
@@JohnEngel I agree. You can't really complain about mpg when you buy a car with 550+hp stock. The twin turbo W-12 is bound to burn a lot of fuel. But in a Bentley Expenses video I feel like it should at least be mentioned.
I'm currently in the market for a used AWD daily driver, and I happened to notice 05-06 Continentals going for ~$36k. It checks all the boxes I'm looking for: looks good, AWD, shiftable auto, has power. But I think the expenses alone are what is going to turn me away from this vehicle. As a 22 year old, I should probably shy away from the Bentley anyway. Might just have to build an EVO X. Maybe one day I'll circle back to that beautiful luxurious Bastard.

Air shocks are maintenance too.
Hello and thank you for the comment. Shocks do not go in the maintenance category as they are an item that once they are worn out you replace. There is no maintenance to them, as they either work or not.
Hey I’m looking at a 2016 gt v8 s any recommendations I’ll probably have by the first just doing my research before I sign the line
The Lions Family to be honest I don’t have a lot of experience with the V8 model. I have only heard good things and the newer ones are even more reliable.
John Engel thanks I have been watching CZcams reviews all night and the growing consensus is that it has corrected a lot of the earlier models. Especially the suspension. I’ll do a small review when I get it. Great videos
3000 Dollars plus, just to fit a new starter motor. Engine drop down, job.
John, you haven’t ran into the vacuum line problem yet? That alone will run about $4500 to take the engine out and replace the lines.
Stacksmusic knock on wood, I haven’t had that issue yet.
Actually, all you need is a friend with small hands. This problem is not as bad or as frequent as people think. Plus, there are some great ATK lines available to ensure you will never have to do them again.
Screaming Demon
From my understanding, because the lines run across the top of the trans and where some of the cracks are just taking out the rack and pinion(I think that’s the part) will not be enough. Some ppl have done it that way and been ok but I rather get everything done and that be it. I’m trying to get the time and extra money to send it to this guy in New York that make the lines out of steel because no one around me would even look at the job and the 2 dealers around me are 2 hours away north and south.
Screaming Demon that’s great to know. Thank you so much for the info. :) I hope that I don’t have to work on this issue but at least I know it can be done.
Stacksmusic that would be a great fix to it. Good luck and keep me updated.
Great channel
Mac Fou thank you so much.
BEEN HEARING HORROR STORIES ABOUT PREMATURE ROOF FAILURE ON CONVERTABLES WHICH CAN NOT BE FIXED BUT NEED TO BE REPLACED FOR $23,000.ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS??
Ambrose Moran I have not heard this but if that’s the case I am so happy I went with the hardtop.
I got some homies who could fix Moses staff for a reasonable price I don't care who makes the car.
Ride with me I like that analogy. Lol. Well said.
You didn't factor in the typical high wear, high expense repairs on these cars....axle bushings and air suspension parts, etc. are inevitable repairs on these 10-14+ year old cars.
Billy Danz I didn’t have any of those bills to include. I am sure they will come but as for the year snap shot, I showed all. I do agree that those prices will be far more than a standard car.
Oh yeah, I figured you hadn't reached that point yet, but wanted to let all those who were unaware that those air suspension repairs will kill your wallet. Which is what made my decision to pass on buying one. If the talked about conversion kit to make it a straight mechanical set-up exists for a 'reasonable' price, I may reconsider buying one with good mx records. Great video by the way!
Perfect!
vigne antoine you are too kind. More so, I miss your beautiful face.
Now can you daily drive one?
Air_ I don’t see why not. They are great cars.
How much it'll cost me to buy a 2009 Bentley Continental GT SPEED?
Marie La Pierre I’m going to guess 60-70k.
In saudi arabia it’s around 37k-40k
Haha, look at changing a starter motor and the vacuum hoses which always break. Hint, these are both engine out services
Another one who never had a Bentley and only repeat what you read. How often you have to replace the starter at a bentley? The vacuum lines {not hoses|not always break it/s like the IMS bearing on a Porsche some have the problem most of them not
BTW depending where the vacuum lines break sometimes you only have to take the steering rack out to fix them ,starting mid 2006 models they are re-routed and you can fix them easier ,IF they fail
Im sure the brake pads would wear out nearly every year with average driving. That must cost quite a bit on a Bentley!
Narayan Subramanian Brake wear is the same as any other car and you can use VW brake parts so you don’t have to pay the Bentley tax.
If you're going through a set of pads every year, that's not average driving, that hard driving at the track almost every weekend with a lot of hard braking
George M very true. I haven’t gone through a set since I’ve owned it.
and besides if you buy from Bentley, you're silly. There's plenty of aftermarket available, just watch the quality.
Let alone a Bentley, even when for an Audi, BMW or Merc, even though they say the computer tells you when to change your pads, I'm told you always end up changing them every year especially within warranty. Probably its just a profiteering technique, not sure. So when you extrapolate that to a Bentley, that becomes even more of a norm.
On my civic I've changed only the front pads once in 8 years. But I suppose that's just not the way with these high end vehicles!
If that's not the way, I'd really be happy!
Doesn't cost that much if you know a mechanic that works on them....I did my air shocks 3 weeks ago and it cost me only labor...for all 4 done cost me 375....the oil change cost me 175 at the shop,,way cheaper than the dealership.....I order bentley gt parts of the internet with the warranty....way cheaper than the dealership.....if you can afford it get one if not buy something you like....2005 bentley gt cost me 39,000 with only 43,000 miles...
Mikedevice1 that’s awesome to know. I have always worried about the air ride. Thank you so much for the comment.
@mikedevice1 which sites do you use to order your parts ?
@@longisland5161 go to ebay thats where i got the air shocks from
Mikedevice1 thanks i’m so scared to pull the trigger but as you mention all the parts are online just gotta find a good independent mechanic

These are amazing cars if you can find a well maintained low mile example with all original paint and service records. I don’t think there is a better luxury GT for the price that these cars sink to, from new. I also do my own minor service and would not hesitate to tackle minor service and repair on this well designed super Coupe. I have a low mile 2006, that I use on average one day a week minimum, as I also have multiple cars, that will all hold value now, at their depreciated lows.
I totally agree.
Hey guys I dont know the best way to get a hold of people on here to answer this question but hopefully people see this... Question: Is the best/only option to get the equity out of your car your leasing by putting that equity into another car loan that is at least 110-120% more then your equity, so that you can just pay off that 10-20% equity and then you have the car out right and you can sell it, if you dont understand this is what i mean.... Ex: My fleet of nice cars are $1500 to principal/month but there is no way to get at the principal for years unless you buy out the car, until now...? Say that 1500/month ive been paying for 2 years so i have $36k in equity, i then can use that $36k equity to lease a $36k-$45k car and then buy it out right away and sell it for full profit..... Please tell me if im wrong or what the best option is to do i cant find any information on this.
Dream4Pro this is such a good question. I see what your talking about with trying to utilize your equity from your fleet. I take it that you one loan for multiple vehicles?
@@JohnEngel I actually have not done it via one loan i would simply have to buy multiple cars sadly but its better then having no way out if something tragic happens etc. But it seems straight forward enough i don't know why it wouldn't be possible to do.
@@JohnEngel I also have a super good strategy for the best way to lease cars (next to full on car hacking) You simply do a 96 month loan (max you can do) and then buy out the car in 60 months instead of just getting a 60 month loan ... by doing this you will save 50% on your monthly payment but will pay the exact same in interest, and in 5 years that amount will be chump change and ill most likely just keep holding it for the full 96 months and just pay that extra couple years interest if my opportunity
cost is still super high and i dont have a ton of money sitting around un able to be invested.
Dream4Pro sounds like you have a good plan. At this point you just need to come up with your starting capital.
and if you dont know what car hacking is you should do some research and learn it quick its basically how to drive exotic cars for free if not profit on them
There's no yearly tax home vehicles in Ohio
Can you say that how much is going to cost for a 400000$ rolls Royce wraith??
Twilight Roamer I don’t have the numbers on a Wraith but with the drastic depreciation they have it will be based on those figures.
What is the yearly maintenance on this car
7641955 really I just do fluid changes. I don’t drive it that much as I drive some of the other cars. So not much at all.
John Engel are these guys reliable? And how much are parts or what do you have to worry about? I’m planning to get a 2010 flying spur
7641955 I’ve had nothing but great success with the GT. I worry most about the air suspension but so far so good. You will love it.
John Engel ok great thanks how many mileage are you at?
7641955 I’m just over 70K.
Ok, thanks for this info. To those interested, I have a Bentley Cont GT Sport and having owned Range Rover V8's in the past I was surprised at the fuel usage, this car has a lot of power and its easy to use it, of course the result is really bad mileage. But, when on the open road, it is on par with my 2nd car "Toyota Rav4 2.0L"if you can behave that is!, I was surprized and somewhat impressed. In comparison to my last Range Rover, the Bentley is much cheaper to run daily and of course the Bentley does it better..

Luke Middaugh that’s a great idea and thank you. You will have one before you know it. Just keep focused.
Entertaining video, but not really helpful. In short, if you do the standard preventative maintenance yourself and you don’t have a repair, then it’s not much more expensive than any other car. You can say the exact same thing about every single luxury car.
L Champ thank you for the comment. I agree and disagree. You can buy a Ferrari and have a lot more issues because they are not made with the QC as the VW group. A lot of what you said above is what people wanted to know. Ultimately the Bentley Continental GT is a reliable luxury car. People have a misconception that because it’s a Bentley that it will not be reliable and this video shows that it is and how much it costs.
John Engel Thank you for taking the time to respond! While I agree with some of what you said, you really go over maintenance cost of a vehicle that you drive less than 3k miles/yr. Once again, not enough usage to really get an accurate account of cost of ownership. It would have been helpful to know what some of the more common and expected repairs would cost, as all cars have certain repairs that are expected due to engineering compromises/oversights. Thanks again for the video, and hope that you are still enjoying the Bentley.
L Champ thank you. That’s helpful to know. I always love to get some real feedback. Thank you again and make sure to subscribe.
