    John, that's one clean GT. Even the engine bay and filter canister was clean looking too. Thanks for sharing and your video reminded me exactly why I hate doing my own oil changes. Not only do I make a mess of things I than have to dispose of the old oil. It ends up being a half-day job from start to finish. Ugh!

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  Před 7 lety +2

      East Coast Classics Thank you. I had been putting this one off for a while. You are 100% right about it taking half a day. The hardest part was finding a 36mm socket and taking all the bolts out of that bottom tray. Now that it's done I'm happy I did it but making myself do it was the hard part.

The oil and filter swaps took 15 minutes EEASYY! The underplate took only 10 minutes to remove, not as bad as I expected from your video.....BUT putting the plate back took me 2 hours, what a pain the ars#. It really annoys me that car manufacturers go out of their way to make a simple a simple fluid change so, so difficult. That said the satisfaction I now have is priceless having done the job successfully "only" paying £90 for Mobil 1 0/40 Oil and £30 for Bentley oil filter and sump plug, £120 / $95US job done, saved £300 heeee heeeee!!!! good video BTW Thunbs Up

  • @sideskraft
    @sideskraft Před 3 lety +1

    Because of the angle of the jacked car (high on the left side), it's likely that you still have some (up to 3 liters) of old oil remaining in the oil pan. Next time do what you did (drain old oil), slide away the drain pan full of oil, replace the drain bolt, slide in a low profile pan, remove the drain bolt, and lower the jack as much as possible to allow the remaining oil in the engine oil pan to drain out. Doing oil changes on low ground clearance vehicles isn't the most fun. Doing oil changes on my V10 F250 actually is fun.

    A much simpler process for my 2001 Bentley Arnage; standard type oil filter, 10 quarts of 5w-40 full synthetic, and no jack mode to deal with. I didn't have to take off any trays to access the filter and I was able to use a standard oil filter wrench to get the old filter off. Service reset was a bit more complicated than on your GT, but I chalk that up to very dry British humor. Nice thing on the Arnage, I can turn off the park sensors with a switch located near the sunroof switch. Last weekend I tackled changing out front rotors and brake pads; not as bad as I thought it would be and everything is still working well. Nice GT, by the way; I am thinking about getting a 2007 model.

      Frank Cook Hey Frank and good eye. When I got my Bentley the plastic gate on the inside of the shifter was missing. This tends to be a common issue in the earlier GTs. I went to replace the part and found out that you have to get a whole new shifter. To do this was way more than I was looking to spend to fix a plastic part. So I went to good old eBay and ordered a custom Italian leather shift boot. Unfortunately, the vendor that I bought it from no longer sells them. It was a simple and easy fix that gives the GT a little more sporty feel.

I guess even if you purchased the plastic piece, it still has to be dissasembled and installed.I think the leather boot looks better. Keep up the good work fella!!

You literally reference everything else including the big 36mm for the oil filter, but then never mention the actual socket size for the drain plug (which could be the single most important piece lol)... And I about cringed when I saw you pouring without a funnel, but clearly that has been covered....

And one thing with this car which I will be addressing right away is no Bluetooth, no back up camera. I’ve found out that Bentley offers a Bluetooth kit so that’s solved, and many retrofit back up cameras are available so I should be good with technology. I’m super excited I’ve wanted a flying spur for such a long time, and the dream is finally coming true, just a tad bit nervous. I’ve owned many high end Mercedes and BMW products but have never bought such a sought after ultimate luxury brand like Bentley, have driven and experienced many but never owned one.
