Good list. The only one I expected to be on here was "You've had a big crash and hit your head". It's kind of covered by the others but might be worth calling out. Helmets work by deforming on impact so that your head doesn't, they are designed only to do this once. Big crash, new helmet.

Haha I've done that once. Didn't have the strap done up and it fell off the lift when I took a sip. Had to duck a rope, but I got it back.

Your board/binding advice was solid af, this weekend was incredible breaking it in. Looking to get a helmet now so wanted to see what you recommended. See a lot of talk about Smith, Giro, Anon, Oakley, and Pret, another influencer was raving over the Pret Cynic but I noticed the only thing any shop with inventory has so I can actually try them on are Oakley, Smith, and Giro.
Go try a few on and see what works for you.
Doing that more this week, just wanted to see what the pro/cons were or prefered brand if 1 or 2 really stand out.@@AngrySnowboarder

I do want to buy a new helmet. My excuses of not buying it asap has been lame so I'm lame. I had hoped to try on different helmets to branch out from being shoehorned into Oakley MOD3 mips but pandemic and all that. So buying it now and I'll try different helmets in two years' time.
Had one that i duct taped together after using it a few years ... lost some memory after hitting a rail and instantly got a new one

Avran, do i need wavecel? do i need mips
Wavecel is still in its infancy so can't really speak on that. MIPS is a logical progression of head protection but some people may not like the way it feels or works. At the end of the day much like your boots the best helmet is the one that fits your head and fits your needs.
Just replaced my helmet.... it was from 2009! Also had to replace my MTB helmet this summer because I put a golfball sized dent in it. Gotta protect the two brain cells I have left!
Any idea whether the new helmets of Anon are worth it? Is Wavecel tech a gimmick or something worthy of consideration?
You're the fifth or sixth person to ask me about it. I think it makes total sense but it hasn't been tested in the real world with the consumer yet. It's like seeing a car manufacturer offer a new model that might still be slightly a proof of concept or prototype vs a full production model.

It's warmer and you can take the helmet off without having to take off the goggles as well. Just more practical if you have really good goggles that you can wear all day

Its time to replace my Anon Talon. It has served me well. I would like to take advantage of new Tech. I'v been comparing Wavecel to Koroyd used in the Smith. It seems to be better, but when I looked inside the helmet it doesnt cover the back of the head where I seem to hit the most just the foam in the back. Any Thoughts? Helmet top 5 may be a good topic.
Wavecel is still in its infancy and I'm sure the design will change in the future but right now it's like buying a new car model from a tried brand and realizing maybe it's still not fully developed.

Would your helmet falling off of a chairlift and falling 20 feet to the snow be a reason to replace it? I think so...
I wouldn't. Helmets aren't heavy. If there's no weight behind it and the snow is sort of soft I'd say you're good to go. Even if its hardpack. 20ft? I'd inspect it for damage and keep riding.
How effective is MIPS technology vs the regular degular brain caps
Short quick answer, very effective at reducing the damage you take to the brain.
I'm really surprised more pro's don't wear helmets. Kids look up to them, if they saw them rocking head gear, then they would be more likely to wear one. Lead by example.
From my experience (at least here in Austria) pros are now the only ones that do not wear a helmet. It's not about beeing a good example anymore because wearing a helmet became the standard.

I saw this -opps got edited by the fun police- was trying to say f......wit. with such a massive bundled up pile of dreadlocks on the back of his head and his helmet was on that. Wearing an orange poncho and a silly grin. Took me a while to figure out his head wasnt shaped like a giant peanut

Let anyone over the age of 16 figure out if they want to wear a helmet or not. The science and studies are there for anyone that wants to look at the, not like they will. I've ridden with a helmet for 10 years straight at this point and before that I would rotate in and out of wearing one all the way back to 1998.
