    Tip for your friend, for his chain.
    Skate board wheel on a tensioner above the motor that pulls up on the chain to keep the bottom tight but also has to have its own small swing arm and spring to pull it up toward the seat when the swing arm moves, pulling out slack quickly, but allowing tension quickly without snapping the chain or racking parts off the ground.
    However no gear shift, though I only saw a single gear, so no problem there.
    The long travel under seat tensioner is something I use on my heavy haul 250 off road travel bike, I use it for trail rescuing other riders who are mechanically broke down.

  • @BossManaatti
    @BossManaatti Před 5 lety +16

    Oh man feels good to own a faster ebike than Kingpin xD
    But just couple of things that are wrong what Kingpin said. First of all the qs205 v3 and the mxus v3 turbo (not sure which one he is using) can both deliver up to 15000w of peak power not 8000 as he said.
    Secondly if he really would like to make his bike run fast he should use a sabvoton or a kelly controller for more power than that measly 100a (or to get even more power use a asi bac controller). And also 72v battery for top speed is not a good choice. I would prefer atleast 82v or even 96v battery.
    Third thing the brakes don't matter that much if you use the motor braking, and you save brake pads at the same time.
    Fourth thing is using that motor without reinforced drop outs is just an accident waiting to happen.
    But nevertheless it's a clean and nice build :)

    • @jimhofoss9982
      @jimhofoss9982 Před 5 lety +1

      BossManaatti brakes don’t matter much? lol....regen is only in the back wheel, you get 70% of your braking on the front wheel....therefore having top quality brakes is imperitive on a heavy, fast bike. Emergency stops are never anticipated....being able to stop is Way more important than going fast!

    • @BossManaatti
      @BossManaatti Před 5 lety +2

      @@jimhofoss9982 you can program your regen brake to brake very hard. For example I have my regen set to 2500w. In normal riding I rarely use the front brake at all. So if you set up your regen correctly you will not need the to spend tons of money for some hope brakes.

    Most places treat E-bikes below about 750w/28mph as bicycles (some locations even lower[500w/20mph], some higher[1000w/35mph]), but anything above that as a Moped/motorcycle(plates, licenses, insurance, etc )... Pro Tip: The reason the chain broke is from the tons of torque forcing the suspension to squat HARD lengthening the chain distance requirement combined with the most important variables, long rear travel and the chain being too short with a short cage deraulier. The same will happen on any FS bike if the travel is not accounted for at full swing arm extension with the bike being in the largest cog on the back and largest chain ring in the front, thought, that is a naughty chainline. :D

      That's totally allowed.
      The law is also a bit more complicated as I made it look like. If your bike only supports your pedaling it can support you up to 25 km/h. After that the support has to stop. If you manage to got faster without the support just by pedaling that is totally allowed.
      If you can use the motor without pedaling the max speed is 20 km/h with motor and you need a license plate and a driver license. Here you have a max allowed speed of 45 km/h without the motor support.
      Oh and you aren't allowed to modify or change parts. Or build your own bike. It has to be how the manufacturer sold it to you.

  • @Asdayasman
    @Asdayasman Před 5 lety +1

    For legality in the UK (and I think the EU):
    It can't go over 15.5mph under its own power. If you're pedalling and you go over 15.5mph, the motor MUST NOT be active. If you go down a hill and exceed 15.5 mph, the motor MUST NOT be active.
    As with all adult-size bicycles, it must be fitted with a front light, and rear reflector, not ridden on public footpaths, and proper head protection must be worn at all times while operating the bike.
    Now, I've seen plenty of people riding on the pavement without a helmet on, and the police culture is generally to not fuck with people who aren't causing issues for others, but if you blow by someone on the road with a bike like this, or do even a single mph over the speed limit, you're almost guaranteed to get it confiscated.
    To get around the 15.5mph limit you must:
    * Have a bike that has the right tires, rear view mirrors, lighting and indication, registration plate, and all other things that motorbikes need;
    * Undergo MSVA for the vehicle (assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/774206/motorcycle-single-vehicle-approval.pdf);
    * Be in possession of a UK driving license of the right category, (AM to go up to 28mph, A1 for up to 11kW power output (and not exceeding 0.1kW/kg), A2 for up to 35kW power output (and not exceeding 0.2kW/kg), or A for anything else), probably A1;
    * Register the vehicle, insure yourself for the vehicle, and tax the vehicle (free for purely electric vehicles at the moment).
    Essentially, you'll be better off buying a naked bike with a fucked up transmission or engine, gutting it, and replacing the power plant with an electric one. Doing so will get you a fun project, a bike that hits 60 as fast as you dare to let it, and really cheap transport. Mid engine will be your best bet as hub motors for motorbike tires aren't a thing yet.
    If you're looking to fabricate motorbike hub motors, I want your contact details. Can you tell I'm doing this?

    Pretty sick, atmo. Regarding the cheaper side of e-bikes, have you considered the Arrow e-bikes? Every time I'm in NYC I see these things positively everywhere. I'm pretty sure they're type-II but some of them were definitely keeping up with traffic leading me to think some of the chinatown ebike shops must mod the controllers. Could also just be the newer models, like the arrow-9 that some people claims goes 30+ mph which is definitely in type-3 range. For 1500 bucks, maybe an option given their ubiquity in Manhattan. See link for a little reading. Not actually sure where you buy them new. endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=89258
    tldr: ~$1500 for an arrow-9 ebike that might be type-3 spec, throttle control, manhattan bike delivery syndicate approved and NYPD disapproved.

    France just introduced massive fines and even jail sentences for doing this. Those Hope brakes are awesome. But no point using V4s on their ordinary rotors. Whole point of V4s is the double layer rotor, which is wider - so the pistons just come out further than on an e4. Pad contact is the same.
