  • The Mazda MX-5 is a lightweight two-passenger roadster sports car manufactured and marketed by Mazda with a front mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. The first generation of the Mazda MX-5 (NA code) was for sale from 1989 to 1997. In Japan, it was sold as the Eunos Roadster and in North America as the Mazda Miata.
The first version featured a 115 hp 1.6-liter engine, and Mazda would later introduce the 1.8L variant, capable of a more-impressive 130 hp. The design of the MX-5 took inspiration from the post-war era British sports cars, such as the MG B, Triumph Spitfire or Lotus Elan. Pop-up headlights were a distinguishing feature of the NA Miata.
Best known for its handling rather than power abilities, this perfectly-refined package was about the closest you could get to having a road-legal go-kart. It's one of the most affordable and popular sports cars in the used car market. The Miata provides the perfect platform for tuning, and with the right upgrades, this humble two-seater can be transformed into something special that fights with the big boys.
While the Miata is cheap, pretty reliable, and very light, it’s also short. With such a small wheelbase, this car is incredibly prone to snap oversteer. Also, when trying to drift at higher speeds, this car takes full commitment to keep sideways since it doesn't have a lot of power. The power problem can be solved thanks to the aftermarket support. There are many turbo and supercharger kits available for the Miata or if you prefer you can swap the engine for a more powerful one, there is a lot of information on how to swap different engines to the Miata (V8 Miata, V6 Miata). If you’re looking for a good starter car for drifting, the Miata has to be on the list. It’s not going to take you to professional levels, but you’ll have cheap and fun learning. na8c na6c #Miata #MX5 #MazdaMiata
