    Hello and welcome to BOAB Models - today we'll be unboxing the Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 2 World Rally car in 1/24 by Heller. This car recreates the Saby's car which won the 1986 Tour de Corse. It's an unusual one, having just 41 parts but an opening bonnet, rear cowling and both doors. Give it a watch and let me know what you think.

    2 things to note - firstly, I forgot to mention there are no seat belt decals in this kit, which is a shame.
    However, the decals are terrible - I have started making it and they fall apart. So if you intend to make it and don't like jigsaw puzzles, get some replacement decals.

    • @GuidoCavana
      @GuidoCavana Před 23 dny

      Remember me, the decals are made Virage true?

    • @ellipticalsoul
      @ellipticalsoul Před 22 dny

      That's a shame about the decals. I've had some Heller ones from the 80's that were still alright! It would be nice to see another company make this car because it's one of my favourite Group B

      @@ellipticalsoul Let's hope for Belkits after the Metro 6R4 and the Ford RS200... or Beemax or Nunu. Unfortunately in Tamiya there Is no hope (for the EVO2) perhaps a reprint of the EVO1 with some additional photo-etched details

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před 17 dny

      @@ellipticalsoulyeah, the Heller Alpine A110 I made had great decals!

      @@GuidoCavanaconsidering BeeMax/NUNU and Belkits have made less successful Peugeot rally cars, it makes sense for them to make a 205.

    Cool! That looks like an interesting little project. I can see tons of potential there. Looking forward to see your results.

      Thanks, Spencer! At the end, I may have added more parts than the kit started with!!

    As you said, this is a very simplified kit, with a lot of details missing. On the other hand, it's the only available kit of the Evo 2 car. I wonder if it would be possible to kitbash it with the Tamiya kit. It would be an expensive model, but perhaps worth it.

    You are a very brave man Thomas to build a heller kit. But i will follow the build as usual. But there are very few part in that kit. So heller cannot mix up to much in quality you may think. But it is french,Se la vie monsieur Thomas.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před 17 dny

      Merci, Jan! It's an iconic car but I hope the end result is acceptable! 😅

    Oh dear, oh dear...
    I have build this kit when it was released, but I don't actually remember the build, despite I drew a few decals myself to make it Timo Salonen's car from the 1985 RAC rally. I haven't seen the finished car in a while, as I did it for my uncle, but I never felt satisfied with the way it turned out.

      I can imagine - I've built an older Heller kit than this which was better!

      Cheers, Richard. I just really hope it looks good when finished as a lot of the changes will be internal!

    this kit is more simplified than something like an amt kit

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před 17 dny +1

      I bought an AMT Corvette the other year and sold it as it was so poor. I knew there were better versions out there but this one - the Tamiya is too rare and expensive

  • @Sarah-JaneR32
    @Sarah-JaneR32 Před 23 dny

    I built the Tamiya one when it was released, thought it strange they didn’t do the evolution version of it though, or even the Dakar one, the 205 Dakar had the 405 bodywork on it for later Dakar rallies, Dakar cars were basically lengthened to accommodate a larger fuel tank. I have the Heller kit somewhere in the stash, looking forward to seeing your scratch building on this one, model on

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před 17 dny +1

      Thanks Sarah Jane. I'm surprised Tamiya have never touched the 205 kit in the past 30+ years - maybe a rights issue? Heller however have sold this and a 1/43 scale Dakar version.

  • @brucek3217
    @brucek3217 Před 23 dny

    The box says 41 parts which is surprising to me. I have never built a Heller kit that I can remember, but they are not easily found here in the USA. (I have always thought that was because of a distribution issue - not the quality of their kits) Still I'm interested in how you will upgrade it so I will be following this build closely 🙂

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před 17 dny

      I imagine it is a distribution thing as there are some US kit brands like AMT which I never see in Europe. Heller have made some good kits but it's a shame they damage their reputation with ones like this.

  • @strummerjoe2199
    @strummerjoe2199 Před 23 dny

    I've often wondered if one could use the Heller kit parts to modify the Tamiya kit, to built the evo version . . . apparently not.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před 17 dny

      From what I have heard, the only Evo 2 part is the rear wing and even that's not very good.

  • @YungJie
    @YungJie Před 23 dny

    Appreciate the video. It is hard to find these kind of rare rally car model kit, even this kit was sold out quick in hobby link japan.
    Now i have mixed feeling about this kit, seems underwhelming imo.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před 17 dny

      I got this one from an online seller in the UK in 2020 - I'm not sure Heller sell much outside of Europe.
      I wonder if they could mould some new parts to improve it or if it's too much hassle...

  • @mazedlx
    @mazedlx Před 22 dny

    I’ve built a Heller Ford Focus WRC two decades ago. Awful to see, that their kits haven’t improved a bit. The Focus' one-piece-rims where made of two pieces, which tells you a lot about Heller kits.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před 22 dny

      In fairness, this kit is even older than that one.

  • @ewin1st
    @ewin1st Před 22 dny

    Nope no way i would waste my time on that kit but if i got one for free and as you mentioned in the video to add lots of scratch building , then yes great idea and project. Shocking kit and like italeri , how do companies get away of producing crap kits like that in 2024.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před 17 dny

      I'm using this as an exercise in what I can create and what I can add but you're right, I think the next model I will make must be quality!

  • @CycolacFan
    @CycolacFan Před 18 dny

    Looks extremely badic for a Heller kit, most of thd ones ive built have been fantastic. The 1/16 Citroen DS are great, the 1/24 Mehari was also fantastic. So believe me, most are far better detailed than this 205.
    Check the parts count before buying...

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před 17 dny +1

      I agree - the Heller 1/24 Alpine A110 was a great kit, despite being very old. I also like their 1/43 stuff.

    • @CycolacFan
      @CycolacFan Před 17 dny

      @@BOABModels they did some very odd choices of cars sometimes too, even from me as a European who recognises Renault 20s and Rover SD1s. Or the 1/24 Scania 141 truck, lightweight E-type and Hispano Suiza no one else ever kitted. Would hate anyone to base an opinion on Heller just from this one fairly poor kit. Certainly look forward to seeing what you do with it.

  • @CubejamF1
    @CubejamF1 Před 23 dny

    Looks utterly dreadful! Decals especially, no chance I'd ever consider buying Heller.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před 17 dny

      I wouldn't let this be an example for all the Heller kits on the market, but they themselves should realise kits like these are hurting their reputation.

    the only part of the evo2 is the rear wing, the rest molds are evo 1, is the worst peugeot 205 t 16 kit ever built

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  Před 17 dny

      It's a shame there isn't a more up to date kit of this iconic car.
