- The Hilleberg Tarp 5 is a great piece of ultralight gear. I did an overnight last fall with one and it was about as minimal as you can get. Just covered what I needed and kept me dry through a rain storm. Easily add it to another tent for a great awning.
Made out of Hilleberg's lightest but extremely strong Kerlon 1000 fabric. Stoutly built but at 11.3oz will be a great solo tent or additional add-on gear piece.

I just love your reviews. You always say those extras nobody else thinks about, like the reason for putting the guy line behind the pole. Not even Hilleberg does that. Often information are available and passed on in reviews but you add that little extra. One can tell that there is a designer and inventor inside of you. Love it! I have this tarp as an addition to my Unna.
Pretty nice.
I like the different ways you can set it up.
Thanks for the video
Excellent video Bruce. I love the different configurations.
Thanks for sharing, Kenny
Thanks Kenny. Just ordered a little bug tent to add to the tarping finally. Will be great for hot weather backcountry this year.
Nice small tarp. Would be good for a quick pitch during a rain storm or shade in the summer. Nice addition to a camp site set up as well. Take care and have a good summer, Al
Exactly Al. I was over at Hilleberg yesterday and the ability to put up a quick rain shelter was the top use for the tarp. I also just finished editing an add a tarp to a tent video last night.
I saw a picture of a Tarp 5 bringing used to cover the entrance of an Akto. The picture depicted a driving snow storm. I think the Tarp 5 would be an excellent lightweight piece of kit for that purpose. I own the Tarp 10 that I employ for many uses and find it money well spend for such a quality item.
I agree Richard. I just finished editing a video about adding the Tarp 5 to the Kaitum. Great little tarp and for a quick rain shelter deployment just to keep the group dry while waiting out a rain storm would be perfect. I love my tarp 10 also. I even picked up the Tarp 20 and that is an awesome tarp. I used it for hammocking in the snow last year. Such strong fabric.
Wow this looks awesome! I've only ever seen 1 Hilleberg tent in South Africa (I think it was a Nallo), and it looked so amazing that I instantly got jealous :D Wish it was easier to get hold of them here!
I like the look of that mate, especially in green. Nice and lightweight which suits my needs perfectly.:-)

It is really neat. Small, but it works. a little mossy set up and it may be the lightest, strongest set up. Great to hear from you. Spirit Nomad...I didn't realize you had a new channel. Any cool trips in the van planned?
Really like this tarp. For winter hope to use with a lightweight one hoop bug bivvy combined with a lightweight rainproof bivvy inside it . What do you think?
That and a Bivanorak and your all set.
I do need to get a Bivanorak. I think they would be used a lot. I would have loved one for all the rainy games I watched my kids play for years. I wonder if they are making them in Sand? Need to check.
Nice review Bruce, but could you please start stating dimensions in metric as well... for the entire rest of the world?
I sure will Chris. Thanks for watching too
Brilliant Bruce, and as a Hillberg devotee I thank you for your reviews. :) Great work.
LOL put a mesh inside, then I algo can get a proper tent.
I love this tarp, it’s just a shame that they are passing them off for $180 dollars now. Which is really just sad. When you buy a thousand dollar tent seems like a small tarp would be a great way of saying thank you.
This whole ultralight backpacking hobby is just getting entirely too expensive.
Great review tho. Thanks.
