Removing Huge Tree Roots 14Apr22 Vid-071

  • Folks, it's the time of the year when we try to catch up on outdoor chores while the weather is fairly nice. I was getting quite a bit done until I hit several tree roots. Therefore, the roots had to come out using my pallet forks. I thought using pallet forks would be easier than hooking up the backhoe. The backhoe would have done fine but would have left a large hole where I dug into the ground plus the backhoe is a lot more work to connect. My wife was my spotter during this project. She helped me guide the pallet forks near the roots for extraction since I could not see well over the nose of my tractor.
    Thanks much for watching my video.
    I wish everyone has a great Resurrection Day (Easter).

    That's a nice tractor I have a 150 Massey Ferguson which is a 1967 model we have had it for years still going.

      Why thank you Danny. So far it runs well. If your 1967 Massey is running flawlesly now, she'll stll be running well when your grandkids are grown up. I have been pleased with my Massey tractors. The cabbed unit is my third Massey. I purchased all of them from a great family-owned dealership. Sadly, the owner passed away and I've only been there a few times since. It's just not quite the same. I miss the owner's smile and warm greeting. It was very personal. Take care Danny and thank you for stopping by. Please enjoy Resurrection Day (Easter) and be safe. 👍🏽🙂

      The work to remove the tree roots was not too difficult because I used my tractor with pallet forks to lift the roots out of the ground then I cut them with a chain saw. My wife helped me when the tractor got close to roots that were to be removed because I cannot see down to the ground directly in front of me over the nose of the tractor when sitting inside the cab. Thanks again for watching and I hope you stay around to view other videos. Have a fine week. 👍🏽🙂

      Hey there Kap. Yep, been a while since any post but thought I'd get something out there. Those pallet forks did super great ripping out dem tree roots but I couldn't see the ground from inside the tractor so my wife had to give me hand signals as to where the roots were. Now that they're removed, now I can mow without those roots shooting me in the air out of my seat. They're like hard-ass speed bumps. Thanks for stopping by, Kap. Say hey to Mrs K (Sharon) and you guys have a fine Easter. S/F Don 👍🏽🙂

      Hey there Josh & Autum. Yep, those tree roots had their tree-freedom for a few years and decided to grow towards my house foundation. They got snipped before they could do any harm to my house foundaton. Thanks for watching and commenting on my vid. I mowed my lawn two times since removing those roots and I don't have any more tree root speed bumps in the back yard but the root holes did make a slight dip when I ride over them. Those holes should fill in after some time. If not, I'll get some soil to fill those holes. Thanks again my friends. Have a fine wek. Don 👍🏽🙂

They would have easily damaged the foundation. Yep, Aunt Kathy will be heading your way in 2 days. She helped guide me during this vdeo b/c I couldn't see the ground when sitting up in the cab. Hello Joseph, the pallet forks surely came in handy. I read a CZcamsr's comments where he said he used pallet forks so I thought I'd try it and it did really well. I will say though, it's quite difficult to see them when they're down low to the ground. That's where my wife helped me. She was my eyes directing me as to how close I was to the roots before plunging the tips of the blades down under the roots. I'll tell ya, they were some hefty sized roots. In fact, some of those roots were as wide as small trees above the ground. Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to your next video adventures. Be safe and have a great Easter. Bye for now. Don 👍🏽🙂

    • @houndsmanone4563
      @houndsmanone4563  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for watching and commenting, Kate. It gives me quite a bit of relief knowing those roots are no longer along my house foundation. Once the roots extend a thread-like fiber into the foundation, they settle and start growing fatter and fatter until they crack the concrete and your foundation is weakened. The bricks along that side of your house gradually crack open from the pressure. A pure mess. Thanks again for the support. Will see you and Tigg on your next adventures. 👍🏽🙂

      Hey there Dave. I guess you're right, it wasn't as ugly as expected. I guess the ugliest part could have been me attempting to remove these gargantuan roots by hand or my pallet forks damaging something or someone getting hurt. Dropping another LIKE on your video! Around our house, we have large oak trees, but I do not think any of them could fall on the house... which is my personal limit... anything that can hit the house must go! In the wooded area, trees which are badly damaged, sick, or dying, have to go.... but I have to make sure there are no bird nests in the trees which are active... and all those zany tiny saplings have to go with the palm frond trees trying to choke out the healthy trees!
    Some of our trees in the wooded area have those goofy roots that come up out of the ground and dive back in... crazy! Watching and Supporting!

Thanks for the support, Martin. I do hope to someday achieve the 1K subs mark. Never know I might reach that goal this year. I think the tree species is a maple or dogwood. • @houndsmanone4563
      @houndsmanone4563  Před 2 lety +1

      You're right. I have the manual, crawl-under style mower deck (Model 2300). A drive-over mower deck sure sounds like something I would have enjoyed hooking up much better. Laying down on the ground to connect and disconnect my mower deck is a chore. Getting back up off the ground is even more of a chore (hahaha). The roots removed makes for a much better mowing experience in that part of the yard. No more tree root speed bumps. I have a few more tree roots to remove but they'll have to wait but I can't wait too long since those roots get quite lengthy and thick making mowing even more of an adventure. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you're having some nice weather. It's been hotter than the dickens last week then it turned really cold in one evening. For living in the south, I didn't expect it to be so chilly this far into May. Have a fine upcoming week. Hope you took good care of Mamma for Mothers Day. Later Don 👍🏽🙂

      @@houndsmanone4563 Don, you know it...and I know you did your part for your momz if she's still with ya, and for your wife as well. So about the mower deck, with mine, you still gotta get down there and connect the lift linkage and pto shaft. So it's not like JD's auto-connect MMM. I think the only difference between yours and mine is I could drive over my deck to get it under the tractor, as opposed to having to wedge it into position from the side. Either way, personally I'm not crazy about mowing with the GC...gonna make a vid on that soon. Have a good one, my friend!
