  • Hello folks and happy new year. Join me as I clean my septic filter for the first time . A messy job intended for Mike Rowe but he's busy. Feel free to leave a comment and share your experience about your filter cleaning process. I've learned that not every septic system has a filter. Have a fine week. 👍🏽🤠

      Hey there girly. You know, I too thought, "man, this is one nasty, yucky job" but it had to be done. I could have called the septic guys but they would have charged me $250 to essentially do the same thing but they would have pumped out the other goodies as well. Anyways, it's behind me now. Hope you and Rich are doing well. Kathy sends big hugs your way and a big hug from me as well 😄. Be good and get ready to shake off those winter duds for some warm weather shorts & flip flops. Baah, for now. 👍🏽🤠 2/15/23

    This is an excellent video showing a nice clean setup (for what it is). Our new drain field was due to plant growth clogging up that area, which created a slower draining to the leach field. To get to our septic tank, just for cleaning, we have to remove a bit of sandy soil - I like your setup much more, easy to get to!

    • @houndsmanone4563
      @houndsmanone4563  Před rokem

      Thanks, Ray. Initially, I too had to do quite a bit of work to gain access to the septic examination ports so one day I dug down to the tank, then built wooden access port hatches that cover the holes. I think I made a video about this some time back but having easy-to-access hatches surely makes the dirty job quite a bit easier. Thanks again for watching and your comment. If you're able, find your tank and make access ports. Making access ports may help reduce the amount of sandy soil that finds its way into your tank. If you ever get ambitious enough to delve into septic access, dig down to the access ports then dig around the heavy concrete cover that plugs that hole, then place red bricks around that concrete plug (making a mock-frame around the access holes. Then slap some wooden planks over the bricks which allows you to walk or ride over it and "voila", you're done! Alright my friend, be well. Don 👍🏽🤠 8/15/23

    Those are lovely gloves Don. Hopefully you remembered not to remove them with your teeth. This is one of the reasons that have prevented me from buying a couple of lake lots. They were all on a septic system and I'm not sure I have the stomach to deal with stuff like this, seriously. I imagine it's pretty expensive just to get a guy to come out and do stuff like this.
    Have a great week. Mike Rowe would be proud

    • @houndsmanone4563
      @houndsmanone4563  Před rokem +2

      Well, I'm glad you're admiring my lovely gloves. Nope, I didn't remove them with my teeth but they were tighter than a sexy girls skin-tight jeans and just as tough to get off but not as exciting. You mentioned cost for a septic guy to come pump the tank. It cost anywhere between $250 to $500 to have them pump it. That's depending on different companies prices. I don't know how they calculate a cost but remember this, "that sh*t ain't free". (literally & figuratively) Thanks for stopping by, Bruce. I'll call you when the next cleaning session is to occur. You're more than welcome to join me. Don 👍🏽🤠 2/15/23

So that's how I learned about our septic filter. Thanks for watching and the support. Have a fine week. 👍🏽🤠 2/15/23

    That was a Mike Rowe job yeh lol! That dude is cool, I like his philosophy on stuff. Well a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do, but sometimes he's gotta wear dishwashing gloves while doing it! Good job, my friend! My septic is w/o a filter, so it's just the septic fella coming out every other year to suck all that nastiness out.

    • @houndsmanone4563
      @houndsmanone4563  Před rokem +1

      Ha, you're right. Mike Rowe is definitely a cool dude and I too admire his philosophical approach to many situations in life. His down-to-earth, common sense outlook is one thing that make him shine in the eyes of admirers. Yeah, my dainty, delicate hands cannot be exposed to harsh elements thus the long sleeved dishwasher gloves. My regular long sleeved rubber gloves had rotted through from other age so a mad dash to Walmart proudced these magnificent gems. These gloves even had pretty little flowers or something to dress them up a bit for such a manly job😁. Take it easy, brother Don 2/25/23

    Don ....I've got a 1200 gallon single chamber tank and about every 2 years I call a septic company to do a pump out. My drain field pipe is a 8" metal pipe with a 90 degree turn from the tank into the field.....Every month I add a bacterial pack with anaerobic bacteria and a cup of copper sulfate to stop root growth through the exterior pvc cleanout.....Never have to get dirty with my system....There's no filter in my system.

    • @houndsmanone4563
      @houndsmanone4563  Před rokem +1

      Wes, that sounds like a pretty good system to add the bacterial pack and copper selfate. Can that be used on pvc leach lines. I'm very concerned that the tree roots may have worked their way to the leach lines but I have no clue whether they're plugged up or not.
      So far everything seems to be working fine. Thanks for that tip. I'm going to check into that root clearing solution. Don 👍🏽🤠 2/15/23

      @@houndsmanone4563 Yes Copper sulfate can be used on PVC System 40 drain fields.....Mine has been going since 1992 and I redid my neighbors in 2016....Everything is working as it's suppose to on both fields!!

      Nope; does not need pumped. Periodically, must clean the filter to allow liquids to flow to the leach lines. I didn't openly display the portal hole that holds solid waste. I should have done that to help folks understand the operations of a septic tank. If that solid waste portal becomes overly full, then it requires the septic crew to pump the tank.
