  • Two cold windy days at Promontory Summit. This was the end of the 2018 season for this National Park Monument. We thought we would do some video before the crowds arrive next year for the 150th anniversary of the driving of the Golden Spike.

    Only 150 years since this historic world changing event.
    It is amazing to see what the people of the USA have created since this time.
    I cant imagine what the world will be like in the next 150 ywaars.

    They should lay a section of the old route from Denver to promortory and call it the Denver & Promotory railroad

    Not many people there for the big event! It's too bad that the original engines were not saved!

    I thought the 119 used to have a tri-tone

    Were you plugging your ears like that Ranger at 5:45? LOL! Great video, Gary. I like how the rail heritage is so well preserved in the US. Great video.

      Rail heritage is not nearly as preserved as it is in England and Germany. How many locomotives sit rusting in "Museums - actually purgatory for old engines to rest in before the city or museum gets tired of them and turns them into rusting hulks or scrap iron. There are very few operational steam locomotives int he USA while hundreds of them are rusting away.

      Are you referring to the original of this reproduction?

    • @Thomasboi01
      @Thomasboi01 Před 3 lety

      Yeah but you do know that's just a replica of Jupiter right? And that the original ones where scraped. Anyway besides that I love the replica versions they made.

    • @Thomasboi01
      @Thomasboi01 Před 3 lety

      I can't believe the Jupiter and union Pacific 119 still operational.

    • @Thomasboi01
      @Thomasboi01 Před 3 lety

      They also made replica's of Jupiter's sisters.

    After the civil war.... Abraham Lincoln set out a decree to build a railroad to reach the west coast ...
    Unfortunately he didn't live to see its completion in 1869 with the final words... "DONE"
    President John F. Kennedy also put out a goal for us to put a man on the moon by the end of the 60s
    Exactly 100 years after the last spike was driven home... In the year 1969 we heard the words...
    One small step for man, and a giant leap for mankind
    How ironic is that?

      But now the US has fallen so low with the election of treasonous lawless Psycho Don and his law less treaonous Republican mob! How the US has sunk so low!
