I just started planet zoo, and I find these kind of video's useful. The path system in this game is complicated. I think the path system in Zoo Tycoon 2 is easier.
I miss ZT2 with all my being. And the modding was awesome!
@@haileyseidner7084 yes agreed!
I know right? Why not just use that system?
Legit having so much fun with this game until I need to build a path. It's so bad 😭
Victoria Syverson I’m having trouble with barriers:( why doesn’t my wall show? It’s a little concerning when I see those huge gaps.not sure. Guess I’ll figure out what I I’m missing eventually.
@@wonder777warrior6 Yeah barriers are bad too, I love the customization and I love how the objects work but paths/barriers/walls would be so much nicer if they were point and click
same same
The game lacks a bunch of helpful user tools and the tutorials and interface doesn't mention some of the ones they do have. Being able to keep paths from automatically diverging to connect to each other should be one of the first options in the pathing menu, but it's not even displayed.
Messing with terrain and building paths on it is a nightmare
I have to say I’m quite disappointed that they didn’t do anything to change paths. Planet coaster fans were pretty vocal about their displeasure with paths in that game and I thought they’d do something this time around.
yah its still a mess...
I doubt there was time, Planet Zoo was concentrating on animal AI. There is a rumour that Planet Coaster 2 is being worked on, would make more sense for a core engine improvement to appear then.
@@suburbia2050 somehow the engine has nothing to do with the path creation though.
@@DerXavia of course it is, its about AI path finding in a world terrain that has unlimited possiblities, its not made of grids or blocks. The path mapping needs to make a link between the unlimited world terrain and an efficient AI that can handle thousands of vistor individuals that each one is meant to respond to the environment around. So yes a compromise and yes I am sure that they would hope to improve it as the engine matures. I would place money on re-write for Planet Coaster 2.
@@suburbia2050 its still just a script and has nothing to do with the engine
I'm seeing a lot of newbies getting confused by some of the controls. Once you know how to use Shift, Ctrl, Z, X etc well, and how to group, ungroup, create separate 'buildings' and combine them into one blueprint, it's like having superpowers. More vids covering this kind of stuff would be useful to a lot of folks.
It's sht and unintuitive. Stop defending it. Go try to connect multiple paths with the same angle, and see if you can get a consistent sharp junction. You may need to remove and rebuild surrounding paths and hope it connect nicely.
I feel like these should be things that should be so much more obvious and easier to the player... I never played Planet Coaster but I loved Zoo Tycoon 2 and I really have more of an admiration for how easy it is to do simple things like add paths and delete things. It's like Planet Zoo made things more hidden and complicated than it needs to be. Hope they fix it in the full version. The game has so much wonderful potential but I am so sad about these glaring flaws.
Because its a more complicated game. Its based around the procedural generation and an AI that responds to the design of the environment. Therefore there will be hidden constraints. As that improves then it will have knock on effects on the design such as pathing. You either admire ease of placing paths or the procedural generation tech ;) There is a rumour that Planet Coaster 2 will be around the corner, so maybe there is some fundamental improvement there.
@@suburbia2050 I still feel things should be more obvious. For example, it seems for making the grid path option to work, I need to have already placed an object first, and it's not realistic to place buildings before paving the path. I wish at least that the game would inform me that is what I must do if it's true. I also still don't know what the mass delete button on the bottom right corner is supposed to do other than delete plants, and the help info box doesn't give me enough information.
@@SukaNekoto Thats because the terrain is not a grid, its a sea of endless possiblities. Each building object is an individual grid so you can align the "path grid" tool to a buildings grid if you hover it over an existing building first, but the building grids are all seperate unless of cause you just build a single giant building! So I see it more of a compromise, can it be improved? Yeah of course but I wouldnt expect anything until the engine is re-written, potentially for Planet Coast 2.
@@suburbia2050 The point I'm trying to say is, as a beginner player, I wish the game explained how grids worked instead of me having to investigate how the game is made in order to play it. If there was a message in the game informing me that grids can only be made based on an already present object, it would be a lot better. Mostly, I'm trying to say that basic things like paths should be better explained in game. I shouldn't need to research on CZcams how to play, I should already know from the game itself.
@@SukaNekoto No need to go on and on. Just pick another game, I guess this game isn't for you.
I figured out how to make plazas. In the paths, there is an "align to grid" option. Underneath that you can make the edges square. Select a piece of path that has already been placed and a grid appears. You can then select each section of grid you want the path texture to show on. The size of the grid will be different depending on the size of the path you placed.
Exactly! It's a shame that he missed out this feature, because with that it's extremely easy to make those plazas.
You can also select a building (such as an exhibit) and then build path surrounding the building using the align to grid option.
Thank you! That is exactly what I was looking for.
I just a a crocodile die of thirst while swimming in a large pool of water. His female companion was fine, stayed at 100% hydration. Fun times...
Honestly, my biggest nightmare with planet zoo right now is trying to manage paths connecting to usuable buildings. Tried a big project yesterday of an indoor, multi-level small enclosure house and info center, but nothing I could figure out to do made the actual guest facilities functional. Eventually just scrapped the whole thing. Will also admit to a bit of envy watching you use the snap alongside barrier function. When I was trying it for an underwater viewing area it left something more like a three foot gap, ended up having to tear down and rebuild large sections of two exhibits four or five times to force the paths to do what I wanted.
Just taking notes.
+ and - keys change path length.
{ and } change path width.
Control key stops paths from snapping.
Space toggles city angles.
Use "T junction while joining path"
Holding down Z gives more natural junction angles for forks.
U and J raise and lower paths.
Can turn off curved slopes in path settings.
Can make railings appear in path settings.
When a path has a bad or rough edge or angle, click to create a new path piece, then delete it. Game smooths edge out.
Can attach paths to barriers. In path settings, check Snap to barrier.
All I want to do is have my paths go 90 degrees like they did in Zoo Tycoon.
Im finally starting to play Planet zoo after having owned it for a while and GOD DAMN is paths the bane of my existence
Yes, the ZT2 paths were so much easier, made more sense, were easy to get the width you needed/wanted, and it really wasn't that hard to get graceful curves into them. (I did an entire Marine Mania zoo without one straight angle in the paths or walls; it was actually harder sometimes to get the tank walls to take the curve I wanted than it was to get the paths to do it.)
I've found the best way to make large path segments is to use the Align to Grid option. It makes creation open areas really simple, although the game doesn't tell you about it >.> That I noticed anyway.
Not sure if this option was in the Beta though, I only got the game a few days ago. It's a great addition though.
Thank you so much for this video.
I was feeling overwhelmed by the counter intuitive path system but now I feel like there's so much fun to be had with it.
Yesterday I was trying to build a bridge with the paths, never played Planet Coast, so took me about an hour to work out how to do it. Great video!
Been playing planet coaster since it came out and didn't even know about the click and delete to smooth the path (D'oh!) - So thanks for the awesome tutorial 😊
Ha! It's super useful :D
I'm loving these tutorials you're doing. Thank you so much!
Lmao I'm so addicted to these videos as I cant play the game myself. I watch these back to back and had 2 times the luck that when I finish one video you uploaded a new one. Awesome
Happy for you to play vicariously through me :)
Thank you so much for making tutorials I've been struggling so much as a new planet player
VERRY useful tutorial, I might need to watch it back a few times if I fogot shortcuts, but I think this will definitely help me create natural pathing and plazas which I couldn't do right now! Although I did use the grid checkbox to create some sort of plaza, but couldn't make it to work everytime. So thank you very much! Looking forwards to more tutorials!
Your tutorial videos are very helpful for someone who never really got into planet coaster but got this game, thank you!!
Thank you so much.. I almost went insane trying to create a plaza
Also thank you for the link of Silv's tutorial.
As much as I love the game, one little feature I would absolutely love with the pathing system is the ability to choose what type of railing you want on the path.
I believe Zoo Tycoon 2 had a similar system with their elevated paths. What'd be even better would be if you had the option to choose barrier fences as your path railings!
Thank you for all the tips and tricks! :) and gameplay!
Great content as always Geekism. Keep it up man!
Thank you. That was so helpful. I didn't play Planet Coaster so the path system is not what I am used to and i have been fighting with it for days. The tips will be great and I will go and check out that other tutorial as soon as I have played around with the tips in this video.
THANK YOU! I was honestly baffled by how counterintuitive the path system is in this game!
Oooh I'm very excited for this tutorial. I've been struggling with paths and building a little bit, probably because I never played Planet Coaster. These tutorials are super useful, thank you!
Glad they help!
Omg thank you so much, the frustration was really getting to me and this helps so ffinf much. Thank you thank you thankyou
very helpful thanks! always love your tutorials
I can’t like this enough! Thank you this game has been a pain to try and figure out, and I’ve never played planet coaster lol
Oh thank you! I needed this. I didn’t really play planet coaster so every tutorial helps
I feel you... it takes a lot of patience to get used to this lol
Sincerest thanks on behalf of future me's sanity! Great tutorial -- very easy to follow.
now i just need to get my grubby hands on the game and we'll be set!
Thank you so much for this. It helped a lot.
The Grid option allows you to make large walkways. All of these tips are incredibly useful to sculpt after that
Oh god! Even as a PlanCo Veteran, this tutorial is GOLD! Thank you =)
I didn't play Planet Coaster so thank you for this so helpful, no more squares everywhere :)
I just learned something new, i was getting so frustrated with the path snapping to each other, I am glad there's a button to prevent snapping! (I just got the game a week or so ago)
Great video love watching your videos so keep up the good work btw the tutorial helped a lot :)
Thank you :)
Good job. Thank you.
This video helped a lot!! TY
Thanks for creating awesome content
Struggling with (I guess a bug) paths not being able to be placed next to building/fences.. Makes it a bit hard. Still very usefull tutorial, so thanks for that!
Thanks for the video. I was hoping you had another solution to the little triangles than hiding or covering. I just make really large width paths or the grid system if I want a large guest area like that. I know Frontier uses that system for the guest AI but it seems like such a counterintuitive system.
You are so good at this!
I want more tutorials!
Btw how and where do you get your inspiration from? Like as soon as i put down a building my head just hit pause 😅
Handy handy specialy the Z and crtl key!
Damn and the videos keep on coming! Don’t you ever stop haha. Don’t over exhaust yourself hopefully!
It's ok :D I've planned and prepped for this week... lots of work but keeping a schedule and sticking to it... things will settle down a bit soon :)
One thing I would love for paths is an option to have paths built on terrain when the path goes up and down. It would make building paths that go up a hill or underground so much easier.
Playstation here trying anything before I give up on the game 😢 this has been helpful thank you
Another great Tutorial!
Thanks Rob :)
Great video! It’s just shame there hasn’t been more improvements made to the pathing system for plaza’s.
I suspect it would have been one of the top features requested from creators from Planet Coaster - even just a tool to fill the space between gaps. Really hope there are some surprises to come but a bit disappointed if not.
Your the best geekism
Awesome video!!!
Thanks!
@@Geekism your welcome :)
As a visual guide
Path Menu
-Three options on left sidebar:
-Paths (for visitors)
-Queue lines (for rides)
-Employee paths (traversable by employees only)
-Other options:
-Style (each with a different style of curb / railing)
-Delete path
-Path options (settings symbol page)
-Length / Width
-(+ / -) to adjust length of path
-( { / } ) to adjust width of path
-Angle snap
*If angle snap is on, the path will move at the interval of the angle
-Align to grid / Square edges
-Curb / Railing (on ground or elevated)
-To add a curb or railing to an already placed path, reclick the path section
-”Align path to barrier”
-”Use T junction when connecting”
-Curve Slopes
-Path Supports (only for raised paths)
-Tunneling (only for underground paths)
Placing Paths (On Ground)
-Click where you want the path to begin and continue clicking to lay more pathing
-If path auto connects to somewhere you don’t want it to, use ctrl to free place
-Use align to grid for squared and right angled pathing
*pathing aligned to different grids may not connect to each other
-Turn off angle snap (space bar) for smoother path laying when changing direction
-Turn on “Use T junction when connecting” (Z) to force a right angle connection between two paths
-If splitting a path into two different paths causes a weird looking corner, click the weird corner, placing a path section, then remove the path section you just added
Placing Paths (In air)
-(U) or (J) keys will move pathing up or down, respectively
*This can also be done by holding the path and moving the mouse up
-If path supports are selected, raising the paths will create pole structures underneath
Plaza Building (5:15)
!More detailed instructions linked to another video by Silvarret
Method 1
-Place path along the edge of the desired plaza area
-Use crtl to create a new path splitting from one end of the original path
-Connect second path to the other end of the plaza area
-Connect the middle section between the two paths. This should create small nonpath areas between the connections
*Hide nonpath pieces with construction materials (path type dependent) or nature. Be creative!
Method 2
-Use corner hack (in ‘placing paths’ section) to make a large section of pathing
*CAUTION! This makes the whole path section one piece, meaning if you want to delete some of it, the game will delete the whole section
I mean, I find paths easy. I’m new and I just wanted the know how to make paths go up, Thank you!
i use trahbins to block sections or walls lol. you can easily place them behind stuff. also did this for Planco
It's one thing I learned with PZ, if you play on a laptop, better have a mouse available!
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for watching :D
Np your channel is amazing!
im curious. cant you build a big block of path on a grid and it all connects? what if you made that into a shape and then smoothed it out on the edges to make a plaza
I bought an animal that goes into water a lot and I want my visitors to observe but I don't know how to get my path down there. Can you help me out?
Good work from you as always!
Who else doesn't even have PZ but is still watching all the tutorials lol
One Tutorial Idea: How do make a raised piece of terrain that slopes in a manner that is friendly for path to be place onto (To create the ever-popular elevated viewing area). Could do the sunken viewing terrain/path work as a parallel example.
Id love a video on how to start a zoo. I always stare at the blank park for like hours...
jeans1515 go to steam workshop and people have things like pre built zoos so you can build off of that until you get the hang of it :)
How do you adjust the existing path after already laid down? And how do you adjust the height of existing paths (that is off ground)? Does Planet Zoo allow you to adjust "nodes" like in city skylines?
Hi I have a doubt. How to elevate slightly the path above the ground. Not like the U/J key, but like some centimetres?
Can you do a terrain tutorial? Where you talk about animal and staff pathing maybe as well?
After creating a curved line with the path to make the outline, can you use the pave by grid to fill in the middle?
If you're going to make a more in depth part 2 you should mention grid placement for pathes. This really helps when building plazas instead of lines. Also you have the option to have them square instead of round for really nice square plazas.
I totally forgot grid placement tbh.... I don't use it too much. But yeah, it can be really useful for large spaces!
I've always been struggling with paths and the terrain tool working together, getting a nice slope just like you have going too your underwater gallery is so hard to get right, there is almost always a humb somewhere which doesn't make it look realistic. You've done a great job on it tho I see. Kinda hope they make it somehow easier, maybe with such a shape as they now how have the kube, etc but than triangle upwards? Might be an idea
And I keep wishing for a fill with path option one day. So you can just outline the plaza with path exactly as you wish, if you do want a gab somewhere outline that inside the other outline. Click on a fill with path button. Click in the empty space you wish to fill in, the game will calculate the cost for those playing with money. You get a yes or no button and it's done, the perfect plaza for your likings. A dream, and then the pathingtool wouldn't be janky at all anymore, since it'll only be used for what it's good already (and outlining than)
I have so much problams with parhs and hights. I have to spend half an hour to build a parh up to a mountain. It would be awesome ifyou could do a vid for that.
Paths/barriers connected with different hights.
I need help...I've seen a bunch of videos about paths and placing faicilities but it seems that maybe i'm the only one dumb enough to struggle with this.... I cant place any facilities on elevated paths as you would be able to do on ground. It just says "obstructed" can you make a tutorial on this please?? :)
Ty for the wonderfull Tutorials :D. I wonder if you already made a tutorial for it if not i would love to see a tutorial how to upkeep the economic a bit. Cause every time i start the money goes down and down. Cant figure how to get it up.
How do you connect both paths in the entrance of a sandbox or franchise park?
Is it possible to Have more than one square placed when you use align to grid tool?
I'm really struggling with connecting existing paths to buildings/habitat doors. All of my straight paths when trying to connect to a facility or habitat door deforms the whole thing or just can't connect due to obstruction, any ideas what I'm doing so wrong?
When I make a path, and then place a building, it automatically connects to my path I made with its own. However, how do I make it connect in a straight adjacent way? I have to manually adjust it and line it up straight with my path using my eyes and sometimes it's not straight...
I know this video is old, but man I've been really struggling with this and I have had absolutely enough. Is there a way to consistently ('cause I can get it to happen as a fluke sometimes) get paths leading out from two adjacent buildings to not meld with the main path they're joining to if it's perfectly straight? I always place buildings about 4m from the main path to keep lines out of the main thoroughfare.and sometimes I want those paths to be a different colour that the main plaza, to distinguish it, but 9/10 times, upon the second building connecting to the main path, the entire thing just melts together and if I try to change a bit of it, I change ALL of it.
I was wondering one thing about Planet Zoo, in planet coaster we couldn't put water in cement is it the same type of thing in this game?
So, when you're raising paths up, is there anyway to make the terrain underneath automatically come up with it? Cause that'd be super.
Most of the video, I hated the way Planet Zoo did paths...but when he started putting trees and stuff to cover the triangles, I didn't mind so much 😌 I always forget/don't want to do decorations and the poorly designed pathing system encourages me to 🤣🤣
Good old planco classic styles :)
I am having trouble puttting things on to a raised path like a solar panel?
thx
I can't make any paths connect after I placed a barrier/habitat nearby. I can't even place a facility near it anymore as it won't connect to the main path. Any ideas how to work around this? I keep making extra paths parallel to the main ones to place buildings or even to continue the path after my habitat is done.
Ok idk if you’re struggling with earning cc but a super easy method is to buy a male and female zebra, antelope, buffalo or basically any animal that doesn’t have 5 dedicated pages in the animal trade and breed them.
I think I went from 50 to 1500 in like three hours with lions, ostrich (doesn’t work anymore), and zebra
Does anyone know if the barriers are back to stop guests going trough objects on paths? Also haven't seen him using grid. Assuming this is still possible for plaza's.
I use guest barriers a lot in Planet Coaster for example on big plazas under street lights or planters.
When I want to place a path it only seems to be able to put stairs unless I snap to grid. Hopefully this video will help.
How can you make a roundabout like the one you have in your zoo at the end?
How can I place things like a vivarium on a path?
There should be a path fill option for small or open spaces to easily make plazas
The biggest new issue for me starting day 3 has been obstacles that the game says is there blocking a path but I can't see anything and can't seem to figure out a way of removing the obstacle! Please tell me you have a solution?
I really struggle to make paths in blueprint builds from the workshop for some reason.
how do you put paths inside buildings? I'm struggling to make terrariums
What I am trying to figure out is how to make a completly filled in circle pathway plaza with different colored path then surround it with a completed squared pathway connected to it without any spaces.
I am stuck with my staff paths... I'm trying to make a staff facility block with the buildings snapped to each other, but this puts the doors close to each other and the pathing just doesnt want to cooperate. It skips a door, or gives me weird angles.... very annoying.
Hi can anyone help! my game wont let me put paths near barriers. Even with snap to barrier on, it says 'terrain modification failed'. So if i start building a habitat next to an already existing barrier'd habitat, I struggle getting the keeper door in or building connecting paths nearby. I have to move the barrier far enough away to put a connecting path down, which can get annoying with animals involved. I thought it was part of the game until i started watching tutorials and I noticed noone seems to have the same problem???
I'm just wondering why you made the wide path like that and didn't just use the grid?? i dont make paths any other way because the grid works so much better. especially when making large buildings for staff buildings or a large restaurant.
But what if you allign it to a grid? Can't you make plazas that way or am I missing something?
Hey, quick question if you buy the planet zoo deluxe edition will more things come out in the future and do you get to keep your parks to the main game so like a beta park to the release Please reply also love your videos 💖 not quite 2nd this time throw 😂
Beta saves will be deleted after the beta unfortunately... the deluxe version gets you beta access, 2 exclusive animals, artwork and soundtrack
Geekism that’s a shame about the parks not saving but thanks for the quick reply!
Just started playing with Planet Zoo and you should see m e trying to create an exhibit with an overlook. Abysmal.
excited to see the path issues never be fixed
The easiest way they could make this game soooooo much easier and more enjoyable, add moveable nodes to the paths, such as the ones on Cities Skylines. That way I could manipulate and move the paths into whatever shape I wanted. So easy.
