- Old Wooden Stool Restoration. I decided to restore my wooden stool, which I have been using in my workshop for a long time and which I did not treat very well. I even welded on it. That's why the burns you see occurred. I tried to preserve its old look and character. And of course I used clamps when gluing it.
Uzun zamandır atölyemde kullandığım ve pek iyi davranmadığım ahşap taburemi restore etmeye karar verdim. Üzerinde kaynak bile yapmıştım. Gördüğünüz yanıklar da bu yüzden oluştu. Eski görünümünü ve karakterini korumaya çalıştım. Ve elbette onu yapıştırırken clamps kullandım. - Jak na to + styl
While editing my restoration videos, I remove the scenes that I think are unnecessary or long. Of course, I used clamps in the restoration of this stool.
Maybe show us with just a pic after the camp up. So people know but you don't have to show that whole process as a video.
removing nail was the trickiest part.
Why the metal bar on the seat? It added no strength. The line from the break was minimal compared to all the other splits in the seat.
MY OPINION.
Maybe there is a higher selling value with "different." I am just a plain-Jane kine of girl.
@@lourias i would have used 2 pcs of brass. one to cover the crack and one on the other side to keep it even.
@@JerroldKrenek okay. That makes more sense than anything I was thinking. Thanks.
So very nice to see old things which most people would simply throw out brought back to life and usefulness. Perfectly sound wood with lots of 'life experience' reborn. Love it!
Thank you very much 😊
A real cutie. Love how you saved the seat instead of replacing it. You kept the character and charm of your stool with the burn marks. Great job....
Thank you 😊
You have great taste Sherrie, what you mention is one of the things i like about his restorations , keeping the history and not trying to make it perfect
So glad you saved this piece. It has so much character. Beautiful.
Thank you very much 😊
Brass inlay, my personal preference. Beautiful restoration! ❤❤❤
Thank you 😊
I love the old stool without the metal piece, but now that I see the finished stool I absolutely love it!❤️
Thank you 😊
Azt a vaspantot enaz aljára tettem volna.
BUT WHY the metal??? If he had put two screws on either side of the joint to use the metal to keep it from ever seporatering again I would have understood its use but to drill through the joint just weakens it!

That piece of metal on the top was completely unnecessary. Otherwise nice job.
The metal bar is unnecessary but, I think the metal bar added as a decorative accent looks good.
I agree 👍
Transformation, not restoration, in my opinion. Nevertheless, great job.
A wider bar could have been centered.
I also agree
Love your restorations …. Curious about the objects that you restore it would be nice if you gave a little background on the object, perhaps where you found it whether it be in an attic an antique store or on eBay 😊👍🇨🇦❤️
you can hide the hole by putting glue and wood dust...and finish it with dark oak stain..simple and easy..
Love This … that steel bar looks so great against the old, old, old wood stool … very eclectic
Thank you very much :)
Just what I love doing. Scour alleys and find a piece people throw out that has character and is worth restoring. Working on an old chair now that needs caning next. Pretty rough to start but am proud of the way it's turning out. You gave me ideas for an old stool with a screw turn that comes next. Seat is split also. Thanx ✌🏽
Thank you 😊
Such a great video. I loved how you used hand tools and not power tools (power drill not withstanding). The result is beautiful and not over-restored.
Thank you very much :)
Videos like this are so relaxing to watch. I treat them as stress relief. Nice job too.
Thank you very much 😊
Smart job nice finish. 👍
Thank you 😊🤗
Your restoration work is meticulous and the final product is stunning.
Thank you very much 😊🤗
Great restoration. Love your cats, they are gorgeous.
Thank you so much 😊🤗😽
Looks even more precious after restoration. It not about money to buy a new piece instead, It’s about the joy to turn something into a new image.
Thank you very much for your comments :)
Great job. Love all the extra touches. Thanks
Thank you 😊
Yet... watching the person at work is what is truly fascinating. Great job!
Thank you very much 😊🤗
Wow, that thing was built solid. Great video and restoration.
Thank you :)
I like this look, farmhouse with an industrial nod, great job
Thank you very much 😊🤗
As soon as you added that steel flat bar to the seat, this went from a restoration to a hack job. A fine hardwood of a different color would’ve been a much better choice.
Great job it turned out super cute and gorgeous you are doing great work always enjoy watching
Thank you very much dear Alan 😊🤗🙏
I like the finished product!
The old rule of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" would leave the base of this stool alone and just remove the top and repair as needed. However, you could say the same thing about my comment as you did a good job.
Hahaha, thank you 😊
agree too.
Excelente trabalho. Parabéns!❤️🌷🇧🇷✌️🌍
Great job now you can sit down on it and enjoy it, have a nice day and Stay Safe friend !!!.
Thank you very much, my friend 😊🙏
best part of your channel you save wood, and that saves trees, other channel wastes or replace wood, they cut big logs to make small handle or parts👍👍👍
Thank you very much 😊
Restored with such care and grace. Beautiful to watch. 👌🏻
Thank you 😊🤗
Nice job. I wonder what a brass bar would look like across the top? Neat idea, to use metal there.
I love that everyone is giving out constructive criticism like this person asked for any of it. Go make your own stool if you don't like their's.
Very nice idea 😊
Bravissimo!!... ❤😊
Love this and adding that metal strip to absorb heat was a nice touch to the stool. Added weight as well. Won't blow over so easy.
Thank you very much 😊🤗
😡
Very good restoration, I really enjoyed watching this video
Thank you 😊
Excellent work! This inspires me to restore a stool I picked up recently at an estate sale. 😀
Yes man, I told you to restore that stool 😁 Thanks 🤗
@@Restomaniac Yes you did! I started on it last evening!
Thank you very much, dear Amilcar 😊🤗🙏
The olive oil made a cool finish. Now I want to try it!
Thank you so much! I have an old stool that’s cracked exactly like this. Fortunately it’s in a wrought iron base and that just needs cleaning and paint.
Thank you :)
Nossa amei! Ficou chique demais, deu um valor, lindo
Muito obrigado :)
Absolutely stunning restoration mate. I thought you were going to fix the seat or restore it assembled.
In hindsight, you were right on track and produced a stunning piece. I especially liked the burn marks left on the seat. I recently did the same with my father’s shaving box he made during WW2. He forever left burning cigarettes on things and burnt them. The restored piece is now a testament to him.
Thank you very much for your kind comments. Since this is my workshop stool, I wanted to leave it imperfect in accordance with its nature :)
I would love to see pics of the shaving box!

Great job! It looks amazing.
Thank you very much :)
Loved what you did to this stool. Very original the metal bat in the 'almost-middle' makes a lot of sens to me, gives it this touch of a uniqueness and sculptural. I also like much that there is no music. Great video, m'loocking forward to some more... ; )) greetings from Quebec
Thank you very much for your kind words 😊 Greetings from Istanbul 🤗
@@Restomaniac Oh, A big 'far in-between'! in my youth I've stayed in Istanbul for some weeks. Gosh this was kind of 45 years ago 😊
Yes, no music, good
Just found your channel. Very much enjoyed the project with such brilliant results...and it was done without all that chatter that is so distracting. Excellent!
Thank you so much :)
Very nice, good for many years more. Thanks
Thank you very much 😊🤗
Muchas gracias, saludos 😊
Love it, you kept it's charm.
Thank you 😊
Thank you(!!) for not adding unnecessary 🎶 🎼 🎵
I would never do this 😊
Ficou top!!!!

Just love the use of basic tools .true artisans work . 👍

So cool to watch. End result is gorgeous. Makes one want to sit on the stool.

Good job better than new. That metal bar was a nice touch.
Thank you 😊

First, great job. However some constructive criticism. When gluing the two halves together, it is actually better not to sand the mating surfaces, just ensure they are clean. This allows for a completely uniform joint to occur. Regarding the metal bar, it is a nice touch, but I would recommend using inletting black next time you do something similar. Gouge out the rough area, like you did, then apply the inletting black to the bottom side of the metal and place it in the groove. The inletting black will transfer to the wood and show exactly where you need to remove material, creating a perfect glove like fit (this is something I do often in custom stockmaking). Last, finish the wood prior to assembly. In this case, the wood was cracked and had tons of open pores. A perfect candidate for either shelf bought sealer or a sanded oil finish, where you essentially wet sand the finish into the wood which utilizes the saw dust created by sanding to create a perfect filler. These methods are much more tedious, but result in a restoration that retains the age of the wood, but properly finishes and protects it for years to come.
Thank you very much for your constructive criticism, suggestions and your time :)
Also, aligning the screw heads at 17:20 would have given a more appealing, professional finish.
What is n letting
@@Restomaniac love that you responded with such grace. 😊
Shows that there is no single approach to restoration. I liked the off-center placement of the metal bar and the use of an olive oil finish. I should mention that care should be taken when sanding a tenon face. The video shows that this compromises a snug fit with the mortise. I learned this the hard way.
Thank you for your comments.
Amei o restauro. Ficou lindo sem perder a idade e uso do banquinho.
Muito obrigado :)
👍👏Le résultat est magnifique. Bravo
Merci beaucoup :)
Real DIY lol other channels use lots of power tool we generally don't have but it's simple and nice process very good bro impressive
Thank you very much for your kind words 😊🤗
I've never seen anyone use olive oil on wood. Pretty cool idea. Turned out nice!
Thank you very much :)
Don't use olive oil. Unlike boiled linseed oil, or danish oil it doesn't harden and stays wet and goes rancid over time.
@@alexanderlarsson1459 Thank you for your comments. I've been using olive oil for years and haven't come across any rancid result. I value my own experiences.
Would you really want to sit on a a stool treated with olive oil and wax? Well, I wouldn't, unless I was wearing trousers that were disposable.
@@Vinterfrid your choice! No one is making you sit on it!

Really nice work! I appreciate saving vs replacing, it keeps the original character with a bit of added flare.
Thank you 😊🙏
flair.
Very good restoration of an ole stool, maybe you should have put some kind of rust preventative on the metal rod

Hella dope results @Restomaniac!
Good job. If I had done that, I would have sanded the old screws a little bit, and use them instead of star screws, but that's me...

A quedado genial,viejo rejuvenecido,saludos desde España
Gracias. Sepam a la hermosa España 😽
Beautiful! I love your videos! (It doesn't seem that your cats like it very much yet.) 😂
Thank you 😊🐈🐈🐈
I would have been temped to tac weld bolts on the back of the steel and bolt it from the bottom. Great job
Good suggestion, thank you 😊
I initially thought adding the metal strip was a mistake. Or at least you should have given it a corresponding patina. But it eventually gave several ideas. Good move.
Thank you very much for your comments.
Nice share 🥰

Good work 😀👍👍
You, Sir, are a true craftsman. I feel as if it ought to have a plaque on it.
Thank you very much 😊 You are so kind 😊🙏
I am also of the opinion of 'no metal'. It was 100% wood and it should have been maintained that way. If a reinforcement was required, a bow tie would have been a better choice
Why should it have been maintained that way? He owns it and he rebuilt it so it should be whatever the way he wants it. Go buy one and leave it be all wood
