The ICU Leg Press Bed for Early Mobility by MOVAO

Video showing the concept leg press bed built in Darin's garage evolving into a patented prototype of the ICU Leg Press bed on a Hill-Rom Progressa frame. A concept explored by Darin Trees, DPT with the Hill-Rom engineering team. Dr. Trees presented a case report using the device at the Johns Hopkins Critical Care Rehab Conference in Baltimore and the 5th International ICU Rehab Conference in San Francisco in 2016. The concept build aims at preventing muscle weakness in a hospital bed with active, closed-chain exercise to reduce the deleterious effects of prolonged immobility.

UPDATE: This concept of integrating closed-chain exercise into the Hill-Rom hospital bed frame did not progress due to the high cost of a redesign. A more cost-efficient, portable exercise product that allows in-bed PWB exercise is in the final stage of development. The MOVAO MINI will be launched soon.
