Interesting video, thanks. I currently use ProCam 8 on my iPhone. It's feature rich for photography and offers plenty of video options. The interface is Ok, too. The basic one-time cost is $9.99 with in-app purchases for stuff like 4K Ultra HD (higher bandwidth than normal 4K). Even if you bought ALL the in-app purchases, including 4K Ultra HD, 4k Time-lapse and various filter add-ins, it's only going to cost $21.99.
For Android: - MotionCam for take Raw DNG video. It's the best quality video app possible - ProShot as a cheap good alternative to record video with manual control

Great video! Mavis has been my favorite for years but, with the exception of Filmic Pro, I haven't tried any of the others yet. Filmic Pro might have improved over the past few years but when I did a side by side of it against Mavis, Mavis had better AWB and less banding in the darks. I'm interested to try a couple of the others you mentioned especially any that provide 10bit, high bitrates, 1440p and Prores or Dolby vision.
Were i live all apps are expensive, in Mozambique/Africa everything is expensive. I use free version of Mavis on my Old iPhone 6S and i have super great quality. On my Android phone i use Open camera. I had Pro Take its also good, and Pro Movie Recorder... I v done Simple videos, Record my band and i do film live concert, it is what i love... I Started with photos, then i went to video. I m guitar teacher i Record tutorials for my students with good quality using those apps for 3 years now

Hi, loved the video and very insightful on other camera apps that could compete with filmic pro. One that I thing you might want to consider to review is Cinema P3 Pro Camera app. It seems to have many of the Filmic features and some that Filmic does not. Also the base app is free and it has great features and the upgrade to pro is only $ 6.99, a one-time fee. Again thanks for all the great videos.

Was using filmic pro with poco F1. When we switched to iphone videography, filmic pro became subscription mode. So bought Beastcam. It's user-friendly, but log footage is not available in this. And also can't control the gimbal. Atleast if there is a record on off option is incorporated in the app it was quite acceptable. And what about the anamorphic compatibility of beastcam. Planning to purchase an anamorphic lens.

I have a pixel 4A and looking at a gimbal and an app that allows some manual control. It looks like the options are more limited with Android phones. Do you know whether the McPro24fps works with any gimbal? I was looking at DJI Osmo 4 but have an open mind. I just didn't want to buy the wrong thing! Unfortunately, android phones are very limited. Hope over the new phones have very good professional manual video controls in their pro native app. You can use it with any gimbal that allows changing gimbal modes directly on their hardware

Recently, I switched from Android to iPhone and discovered an unpleasant issue. There is no pause button for video, which surprised and angered me. How is this even possible? How can you shoot without the ability to pause and move to another object, continuing the video recording later? When I realized that, no matter how hard I looked, the iPhone doesn’t have such a button, I started searching for third-party apps. Please advise on which of these applications have the ability to pause the video while shooting. Additionally, could you explain why the iPhone doesn’t provide this feature? Another issue is the inability to change the aspect ratio, for example, to shoot video in a square format. PS And great appreciation for your work.

I'm using Samsung S23 Ultra for shooting walking videos with gimbal. But have a problem. In standard phone's app when you rotate the camera all objects in video are a little but blurred. I think this is lack of bitrate. Any suggestions? On iPhone same thing. What app is the best solution for me if I need to shoot videos on all auto settings but might just correct bitrste option to solve my problem.
You can't change the bitrate on Protake+ and I could not get more than 1 iPhone to work with Protake+ in "monitor" mode, and I understood (as you mentioned) that it could connect to 4 other devices... Protake+ also claims it can record in constant framerate mode 24/25/30/50/60p (which no other app claims) but it practice the framerate still varies like all other iPhone apps.... Mavis one advantage over any other app (I know of) is that you can actually record in 4:3 or 16:9 resolutions, which can be useful if your final output will be 16:9 or 9:16 or 1:1...

I was a big photoshop fan and actually bought the program when it was CS2 if I recall. When they switched to subscription I dropped it and have never looked back. I have filmic on my phone and use it at times but I will not do the subscription so good luck to them. The subscription service for us causal users makes no sense at all.
Just downloaded Beastcam for only £1.79 Jaw drop! I have been learning Filmic Pro (with your help) and don't want to change but there's no way I'd pay £50.99 a year for v7.

Hi Zdenka, just wondering about your thoughts on the app that comes with the DJI OM4 to use with my iPhone 12. I have very little experience making video's but want to use this set up to film and demonstrate a product I make and use in the construction industry. I have Beast Cam and was hoping I could use it all together but after this video I see Beast Cam doesn't play well with others. So, I assume then the OM4 app will do nothing and it is basically a stabilizer with pan and tilt, would that be correct?
DJI has pretty good app.. I would use it no problem. Some people want extreme quality that is why they want to use other apps however when you really look at the footage on computer you are not going to see much of a difference

Hi, Zdenka, I have a question about logC Protake. As we see it’s actually not a mode that can be turned on/off like logv2/3 profiles in Filmic. It’s a look that can be applied to the footage and has a slider (from 0 to 200%). Have you ever seen a log profile applied 146% or 48%? I thought the log profile can be either enabled or disabled. So can we say this logC is real log or just a filter with reduced contrast and saturation trying to emulate Alexa LogC and having nothing to do with real logarithmic profile that has to be converted to rec709 on post? Thanks in advance
I bought it a month” ago or such , .. 90% for the 50 fps option + remote control. But im against any subscription of any kind i wouldnt pay a dollar pr year to support such a company. And its not sure that we who allready have it can keep it for ever, cause in my expirience when years get by and apple update the ios constantly … the apps must also update the “ new criteria” in order to keep up with apple demands, iv lost good apps in the past wich iv paid for cause they dint get updated and therfor not posible to download / install them anymore. Bad news for sure , in consider it normal this days. Hope nobody buy that subsrciption :))) , great video and thanks for info.

Not sure what blurred means ….. if you film at 24fps you get natural motion blur. If you film at 30fps it will be less blurry …. I hope this helps

As Zdenka mentioned in the video if you already purchased FiLMiC Pro you can use it without the subscription. But it won't include any upgrades.

I was a big photoshop fan and actually bought the program when it was CS2 if I recall. When they switched to subscription I dropped it and have never looked back. I have filmic on my phone and use it at times but I will not do the subscription so good luck to them. The subscription service for us causal users makes no sense at all.

Hi Zdenka, just wondering about your thoughts on the app that comes with the DJI OM4 to use with my iPhone 12. I have very little experience making video's but want to use this set up to film and demonstrate a product I make and use in the construction industry. I have Beast Cam and was hoping I could use it all together but after this video I see Beast Cam doesn't play well with others. So, I assume then the OM4 app will do nothing and it is basically a stabilizer with pan and tilt, would that be correct?
DJI has pretty good app.. I would use it no problem. Some people want extreme quality that is why they want to use other apps however when you really look at the footage on computer you are not going to see much of a difference
Hi Zdenka, thanks for this video as I was really disappointed that Filmic Pro has moved to subscription model. I was wondering if you know of any other apps besides Protake that offer virtual aperture changing? I have portrait mode for video on my S21 Ultra but it only works with people's faces.
Unfortunately I think only Protake has it.., I know the price for Filmic pro is quite a lot now

I would like to offer the comment that my Zhiyun Smooth 5S didn't play nicely with ProTake (even with the Pro subscription.. it connects, but the zoom/focus wheel isn't available, nor did it start recording when I hit the record button)

It might also depend on what phone you have. The app might look different on different phones. This video is quite old as well. The app might have changed
Open Camera App for Android has clean HDMI out and constant on, so your phone doesn't time out if you are live streaming.

BeastCam app can shoot in ProRes (it did so too even before ProRes was officially available on the stock camera app!). Not too sure about Moment app.

I use HedgeCam shutter speed and iso bracketing for photo HDR merging in Vibrance HDR. Do you know if in Android there is app with WB bracketing. For interior photos i want my sun highlights at 3100-5000 K, but background is usually 2000-2800 K.

Hi, Zdenka, I have a question about logC Protake. As we see it’s actually not a mode that can be turned on/off like logv2/3 profiles in Filmic. It’s a look that can be applied to the footage and has a slider (from 0 to 200%). Have you ever seen a log profile applied 146% or 48%? I thought the log profile can be either enabled or disabled. So can we say this logC is real log or just a filter with reduced contrast and saturation trying to emulate Alexa LogC and having nothing to do with real logarithmic profile that has to be converted to rec709 on post?

I bought it a month” ago or such , .. 90% for the 50 fps option + remote control. But im against any subscription of any kind i wouldnt pay a dollar pr year to support such a company. And its not sure that we who allready have it can keep it for ever, cause in my expirience when years get by and apple update the ios constantly … the apps must also update the “ new criteria” in order to keep up with apple demands, iv lost good apps in the past wich iv paid for cause they dint get updated and therfor not posible to download / install them anymore. Bad news for sure , in consider it normal this days. Hope nobody buy that subsrciption :))) , great video and thanks for info.
